Maybe I live in a different America?  As noted above, no relationship is perfect, whether it’s a job, government, or spouse. Could things be improved? Absolutely, starting with debt management. But it’s far from the dystopian society preached on this site.

Then again, some people are convinced chemtrails are real. You’re gonna believe what you want to believe.

My best friend is disabled and in a chair. Yes from riding so judge if you must.  Since he could work in a chair he has been denied ssdi 3x.  He lives with his sister.  His only security was his $185/mo food card that I would shop for and help when I could. Not only does he have to work 20hrs a week to be eligible for funds now trump cut it off for political gain.  The dems need to let ACA expire.  Most are red states so what are they fighting for?  Trump needs to stop thinking he is above the law. Both sides are destroying lives and need to be held accountable with prison time. All those people who voted last night did not do it for the candidates. They did it because a democratic vote is a vote against trump. Hate to say it but he pulled this shit down on himself.

Wow

Trump cut off the aid?
Trump voted against a clean CR to continue the day to day funding of the federal government?
Trump controls the purse strings of the federal government?

Oh. Ok.

Trump himself said on multiple occasions it's on the President to bring both sides together to negotiate a resolution to a shutdown, so he is either complicit or unwilling to help.

Wow man you are burnt.

By design the dems have ACA ending now so your saying it Trumps fault that they are shutting the government down when the Republicans are demanding nothing in return to keep the lights on?

Democrats in the senate have refused to vote for the funding bill at least 13 times so far.

The senate Dems could just as easily create a bill that Reps would hate and it wouldn't be the Reps fault for rejecting it, because they're supposed to work together in both the house and the senate to figure it out, that's the design of our system. They need to get together to figure it out. We're witnessing in real time at the highest levels of government why pride is one of the seven deadly sins.

Now that the elections are behind us, maybe a resolution can be reached soon.   Because this was always about last Tuesday.

Pretty obvious some people do not know how our government works. Here is a couple things that might help them to understand.
The majority party controls the agenda.
All spending bills originate in the house.
The president does not make the budget, the house does.

"Controlling the agenda" is nearly meaningless if you don't have the votes. I say nearly, because it depends a lot on party unification, like if you only need a couple of votes, you're more likely to be able to bargain your way through that than if you need twenty.

Spending bills originate in the house, but a bill's origin has little meaning. You could submit a spending bill from the house with nothing but a crayon drawing of a cat and through a ton of rejection and feedback and working together it would eventually turn into an actual budget.

And the president does not make the budget, but this president in particular certainly sets the tone. Allegiance to him is a top concern and he's telling people to not work together.

Well if it worked, the government wouldn't be shut down. Words matter, "control", "works", they have meaning. If there was control and if it were working, then the government would be open.

The budget is a continuing resolution of Bidens budget of last year. The democrats want an additional 1.5 TRILLION or nothing. That's not a" negotiation "

Hence…I’m amazed at those that knowingly ignore the fact that a CR would allow the government to keep operating and the politicians could keep politicking….

Yet, some of us…well…

TDS.

It’s that simple.

Additional, or continued? Either way, I'm not arguing in favor of, or against, any details within the budget. I'm only saying that people have to work together to get votes. That's the system we have by design. And frankly, I 'm not even sure why Republicans are unhappy right now. Shutting down the Federal government has been a fantasy since Federal taxes began. A readjustment of pricing as these healthcare companies see fit is capitalism and that's what's going to happen. Where exactly is the Republican loss here?

Your friend, probably wouldn’t have been denied ssdi had he actually been hurt at work. Anyway it’s probably good for him to get out of the house and do some work. I obviously don’t know the how severe his paralysis is . I hope you don’t take my commitments as insensitive. But as far as the food card goes , that’s on the dems, IMO. At any rate I hope your friend gets the care and service he needs sooner than later.💯👍🏻

I’ll dumb it down. The minority party can write all the bills they want to. It is up to the majority party to decide what gets voted on.

It would not surprise me if the lobby groups for insurance and healthcare companies are holding the Dem party at ransom from campaign contributions if they buckle on this whole ACA subsidies issue. The insurance companies are going to lose their gravy train, and healthcare providers get paid a fraction of every dollar charged through Medicaid versus private insurance. All the ACA has done is mask the real issue of how out of control both of those groups are in order to keep shareholders happy. Thanks Obama.

That's not dumbed down, that's incomplete. If the majority party brings something up for vote and it doesn't have enough votes to pass....what happens next?
