State socialism which the type of socialism this guy is advocating for in practice looks much like state capitalism which is basically what we have now. We have a heavily centralized state authority with the ability to control and manipulate the market at its will.
America is capitalist in name only, at this point and in practice our system is a dirigistic system maintained by corporations and administered by “elected representatives” who are only held accountable to the corporations they work for.
What this dude advocates for is fundamentally the same as what trump is advocating for. The differences are minor and superficial.
I don’t see economic policy as being the big issue but I guess we’ll see.

What Mamdani hopes to accomplish, and what he will actually accomplish, are likely two very different things. The invisible forces at work in NYC will resist change, no matter how loudly the population shouts. The support of the establishment is vastly more critical than winning an election.
Lots of interesting experiments in democracy and governance happening. The trouble is being too locked into an ideology to refuse to throw out the parts that don't work.
