locational differences aside...
We dont follow religiously, and our press doesnt extensively follow, the GP's for 1 major reason, and it is a reason felt and supported by alot of your own gp champions..... the premier racing, on this planet, happens inside these borders. Dont shoot the messenger, and please, im not trying to start another us vs them whos better thread. Both series have some absolutely brilliant riders. here is the crux of the "problem" you are commenting about..
For the last 20-25 years, the view from the riders point of view, if you are a US Nats rider, you view yourself as being in the toughest series on the planet against literally the best the planet has to offer. if you are a rider in the GP's, you view yourself as being in a tough series, but your dream is to get the championship, then come to the usa and compete against the best.
Answer this, why would guys like JMB, Roncada, Pichon, DV, Tortelli, Albertyn, Rattray, Langston, Musqin, Roczen, Metcalfe, Reed, Townley... the list goes on. Why would guys, making bank in the GP's, winning GP championships, give it all up and to come here? Forgoe millions, and championships, leave it all behind, and come here. Why? Their own words, "I want to prove myself in the USA" . Now if things were all equal, why would the riders themselves in the GP's feel they need to prove themselves? You hear this ALOT.
On the other side of the coin, why dont our champions leave behind millions and championships to goto the Gp's? Because to them, its not viewed as the premier place.
I appoligise, i know thats insulting to a GP faithful. Just stating what happens.

Because until they come to America most of you guys dismiss them as inferior; Pourcel & Roczen being two prime examples. Thats why Everts is still viewed as 'inferior' because he didn't 'sack up' and come over to race a whole series in the states. There are many reasons why European riders head to America but its partly because they want to prove themselves to the doubters and achieve true world wide status.
edit: I've always favoured RC over Everts but I have absolutely no doubt that had Everts raced in America for the last 3-4 years of his career he would be viewed in a completely different light by most Americans (the non-bigoted ones anyway). He may not have won titles from RC, but he would have definitely won races at least and Americans would have seen first hand just how good he could be. As it stands average American riders are household names in Europe, but a 10 time world champion is a virtual nobody in the States and European kids recognise this when they're growing up.
My own ignorance causes me to use the word "conflate" improperly...
when the top USA guys end up racing over there, then i'll start paying attention to the GP's....
