Foxhill 26...

According to Lewis on his WhatsApp update thing, Foxhill is in for the GP next season.. I'm not quite sure how I feel about this.. Cautiously optimistic... The nostalgia will be wild.. !

There's been rumblings of this for a little while now. Be interesting to see. Someone clearly has money to burn... but good luck to them!

Seems mad to hold a gp there in the modern era but I’ll be definitely going for old times sake.  Hopefully they can recreate the old days of the place, and hope the beer tent doesn’t burn down!

The atmosphere in the valley during a GP was awesome.

Pretty poor planning if they go for may 9-10th as originally quoted. That’s the same weekend as badminton horse trials which is just up the road. They get a hundred thousand spectators so the roads are going to be jammed.

It's a lot closer for me than Matterly so I'll be able to drive both days and not have to find somewhere to stop which is cool.

And it'll be really cool to see the new generation rip around there.. I just wonder if they'll update the the track at all..

I’ve heard it’ll take a shit ton of money to get it up to scratch for a GP. Matterley is the best venue in the UK bar none.

I agree. Just a shame it seems like a ball ache holding it there..

Money to burn, meaning you don't think the owner/promoter can make money?  If not, why not?  I don't know the area, but it looks pretty close to London, so plenty of folks within 90 minutes or so?  Definitely an old school style track, they could do something really cool on that property with all of the elevation change they have.

You’ve “heard”?

You don’t need to hear anything to see that the current track is a mess and it’ll take serious machinery to get it in to shape.

The track is worn out- not a patch on what it was in the 90s.

I’d like to ride the VMXdN… but fuck Foxhill..

Could it be done? Yes. Will it be any good? Debatable.

I think Foxhill would actually draw a bigger crowd than Matterly. It will be a change and a lot of the old school guys will be keen to go to re live 90's nostalgia.

Matterly, although a good track and venue, lacks any real character. I've been there for 2 MXdN's but never a GP. I've spoke to plenty of people who have been there for GP's and they always describe it as just 'OK'.

I think the main issue for a Foxhill GP would be space, it's not a big venue and doesn't have the best road system in and out of it. Camping/Parking will be tight and track viewing would be heavily dependant on how early you got to the track to stake your spot. Another issue is cost, ticket prices are steep for Matterly in previous years, I cant see a Foxhill GP being any cheaper.

Yeah heard or read. I’ve never been to the track personally but from recent videos it looks like a dusty shit hole. I have no idea if it could hold a GP these days.

Someone mentioned on instagram what about Canada Heights! There’s zero chance of it ever going there. Track is too narrow, access is poor, it’s an old school track that couldn’t handle the GP infrastructure. The good thing about Canada Heights is its proximity to the M25, M20 and Dartford Crossing.

Well as it stands, Foxhill is just a few empty fields. It has none of the infrastructure needed to host a GP. So there's the initial cost for all that.

It would probably pull in a bigger crowd than Matterley. I looked up which track was closer to London. Both 76 miles away which is kinda funny. But, MXGP isn't something people from London (or any other city for that matter) will just go and watch. Only core fans will.

As much as I'd love to relive those glory days the place is f**ked now. All the greenery and trees have gone, it's just a barren landscape ruined by overuse and constant earth moving.

By the time they get all the VIP stuff and 'infrastructure' in , where are you going to put all the people. ?

There wont be a crowd like there used to be, but nothing has changed since they stopped going there because it wasnt suitable any more.

VMXDN works because its a happening , will this work.. dunno, but i guess we will see.

It’s a disastrous, short-sighted idea that will likely cost us the British GP in the future. Nostalgia aside, it is going to be a poor venue for a GP, with little infrastructure, the track needing serious work to stop it being one lined and the time of year too

1. InFront don't have a history of allowing promoters to make money...

2.The UK 'red tape' is very costly, not just health and safety requirements but also the planning/permitting/environmental restrictions. Extra burden for Matterly too, as it is located in a National Park.

3. The event is almost not promoted, especially locally;  the crowd is usually small despite InFronts claims. By contrast, the VetsMXdN is heavily marketed and that's why it draws the UK's biggest crowd.
