Has anyone ridden these new 125s or 150s back to back?
Wondering if there are really any difference between the 3 brands. Gas gas and husky deals are easily found, ktm is harder to find deals but is my favorite cosmetically.
Also stuck between 125 or 150. I weigh more than the average 125 rider but im not counting lap times, this is for pure enjoyment. Never ridden a 150 to compare the power to the 125.
P.S- Yes i know the 2023 ish models were known for having issues but i have heard the 2025s are fixed?
There is a guy I see at the track from time to time that had a husky 150 and last time I saw him there he had a KTM 125. I don't remember everything he said, but he said he was faster on his son's 125 as the bike was easier to ride. Said he took a hit on trading in the 150, but he was happier with the 125 so it was worth it to him.
Power on a 'bored' 125 is just for mid-range. If your just putting around, 150. If you like to scream some guts, 125.
I cant say ive ridden either of the newer models. But I can tell you waynesburg cycle in PA has a massive blowout sale on bikes. (They just bought out another dealer recently). A buddy bought a 25 ktm 125 for his wife last week for $4,999. Otd.
Mxa has a video comparing the two and used two kids that ride both for comparison. I think they both liked the 150 better, but don’t quote me on that.

I haven’t ridden the 125/150 tbi but on the carb bikes I liked the 150 a lot better. Husky has 10mm lower suspension and Gasgas has braktec hydraulics. I have ridden the gg and husky 250f and the 300s and the husky air box has a more metered/smoother power delivery than the ktm or Gasgas. I assume that will transfer over to the 125/150 but not 100% sure.
I owned the 2018 125 and 150. Few years in, we've converted fhe 125 to 150.
People say the 150s won't rev, they dont know how to set them up imo. But fair play, the 150 can be abrupt. I think the strong mid on the 150 is what over shadows the top end
Have they fixed the mapping issues on the 25 125,150 and 300 sx ?
Ive heard they have fixed them, since the 23s (and 24s?) were kinda iffy. Either way, multiple companies have mapping/ecu for them and have heard good things about them.
Thanks for the info. Im thinking about going with the 125 since i can easily just get the 150kit and throw in it. If i think its too slow.
Im just a vet rider trying to enjoy riding again, four strokes made me lose interest and i dont have time to race anymore.
The 150 kit is over $1000. Cheaper to buy a 150 if that’s what you want.
I think the 125 is actually easier to ride . I've had a couple 150s and the power is good but a narrow powerband . My last one had the newer lectron carb too ,oh and the longer silencer works better .
I guess a vortex is ok but hate too have to spend 1k to make a bike ridable, plus the forks suck . I am thinking of g tting a 125, 150 play bike. I have a 25 350 now as well . Probly better to go yz125 and do motor work
If you have a 25 350 now and want a play bike to go with it definitely get the 25 150. That's the combo i had and the 150 was a blast to ride i was just too fat for it ha ha.
I have a 25 SX250. The mapping is spot on and the forks work really well. Basically what a lot of tests say. I was sure to get them revalved but after 7h on the bike they are good as they are.
I'm coming of MX-Tech suspension and I was really surprised how good the stock suspension is!
You definitly need time to adjust to the engine, but it's worth it. I always rode and raced perfectly tuned 250 and 300 2-strokes by the way. Had a YZ 250 years ago and that bike was nowhere close to my 13 SX250, less to the 25.
A friend of mine with a 300 enduro and a CRF250 took a spin and was blown away by the engine, traction, handling and the suspension.
But the internet says the suspension, mapping and frame suck so they have to...
Just wondering if you've ridden a 23+ 300sx and how it compares to your 250sx? I'm interested in getting a new 250sx but there's not alot of info out there about them.
I had a 23 300sx and didn't really gel with the motor on mx tracks. Have heard people say the 250sx feels more racey and fun than the 300.
I can't say anything about the SX300. Had a YZ250 turned into a YZ300
What I can say is the SX250 revves really good, I can't complain about a lacking top end. Could use a little more bottom end maybe. After the first rides I was a bit disappointed and thought maybe I should've taken a 300, but after some time on the bike the 250 is definitly right! Absolutly loved it last weekend! Playful, fast, great traction, all with a good dose of 2-stroke power, fast revving, really good!
Right now PC pipe and a short HGS silencer. Waiting for the KTM factory pipe (not the FMF). Had a regular PC silencer, but short silencers are a must in my eyes. The original silencer is even shorter then the HGS. HGS pipe was a horrible fit. Never seen such bad fitment. Had 2 pipes in case one was the problem. Contact with the shrouds, mounting points 5mm off and only 2-3mm space to the frame cradle.
Appreciate the feedback. I have a 25 350 as my main bike which I love. Had a 25 150sx as a fun play bike as my 2nd bike and although it was a super fun bike I'm just too big and ride sandy tracks so it just didn't work. I want a fun play bike to go with my 350 so thinking the 250sx might be the best choice.

If I had to buy a new 125 right now it would be the YZ for sure. Way too many stories of issues with the TBI bikes. And I've ridden them and they are heavy and slow. And this is coming from a guy that has 4 Austrian bikes. It blows my mind that all the 2-stoke taliban on here for years raved about how EFI was going to be the holy grail on 2-strokes and they would never have to deal with jetting again, but yet people are somehow now OK with spending $1,000 for ECU and tuning and driving to the dealer to have codes cleared, etc.
Can speak on a 23 300sx and 25 150sx, no way did they need a vortex or anything done with the tuning. Both of them ran better than my 17 150sx and 22 yz250.
This is the issue with the TBI bikes... for every 1 guy like you there are 100 on facebook with POS's that they can't get running right. But everyone tries to make them believe it's their fault because "hey mine runs great and hasn't blown up yet".
That's exactly the reason I don't have Facebook, or any social media. I believe what I experience myself and see around me with my own eyes. I'm not saying people don't have issues with the tbi bikes or any bikes for that matter. But I do believe the issues are blown up to be alot more than they really are by social media especially. You only hear about the bad things, no one cares about your story when it's all good.
Yup, one side will have you believe it's 100:1 good to bad and the other will tell you it's the other way around. We can definitely each find enough proof to support what we want to believe. And I'll stick with my carb 2-strokes based on what I've seen. As far as the 125's... they are just heavy and dog slow. Even if they never have a problem. There is no getting around an extra 11 pounds on a 125 in any way.
I agree looks like yz125 for me
I had so many issues in 2016 with a new yz250 that im afraid to ever buy a yamaha again. Im Pretty good with preventative maintenance, service, etc and could not keep that bike in good shape. Sold it with 50 hours.. Bunch of Bizarre issues too.
YZ250? You mean literally the longest continuously produced dirt bike ever that is universally considered pretty trouble free and easy to maintain? Please, tell me you now have a TBI bike and it is sweet and trouble free......
Lol, i understand your thought process and somewhat agree with what you said. But my yz250 was a nightmare. Have since owned multiple hondas, ktm, husky, all with minimal issues compared to the “trouble free easy to maintain” yz250.
