One thing I did cause I’m forgetful and scatter brained.  I have switches on my garage doors tied to my alarm system so I won’t set my alarm and leave my garage doors open at nite.  Actually have wireless switches cause I didn’t have hardwire for switches.  My garage doors have to be down before I can arm my security system.  I’ve done this on the last two or three houses we’ve loved in.

Can you provide some more information on how you rigged your setup? I too am forgetful and scatter brained lol. Woke up in the morning a few times with the back door wide open where I let the dog out and didn't close it..

I called my Alarm system company that installed and manages our Alarm system. They sent some guy out to install the wireless switches, first thing he did was ask if he could use the bathroom.  Second thing he did was piss all over my wife's bathroom floor.

He installed the two wireless switches one the garage doors and programed them to my Alarm system, wireless magnetic switches.  I forgot how much it cost.  It worked great but my wife was not happy.

They look something like this not the same one.

Wired Alarm Heavy Duty Garage Door Magnetic Contacts with Adjustable Bracket

I could have bought some alarm system wireless switches off Amazon and did it myself but our company we use are very reasonable.  We've had them out before.  My wife f.....ked up our Alarm system once.  She put the code in the keypad so fast it confused the keypad.  Alarm went off, freakin horn/siren thing in the attic screaming and couldn't be reset.  Fire department had to come out and unhook the horn.  I was out of town working.  Alarm Company had to come and reprogram our alarm system from scratch.  I don't know what see did.  It was almost as bad as the time she had one to many Margaritas and pushed the wireless remote to arm the Alarm system.  She pushed the button three or four times in a row which set off a silent alarm, both police and fire dept. showed up.

Heads up on the garage doors- the roll up type. I've seen where they slip a hook type of tool through the top panel and un-latch the pin thing. Then they can lift the door right up...

my roll up does not have an opener. Mine has a L shaped slide latch inside that moves horizontally into a slot in the track and has weight of the door on it when closed. Had a couple others like that before too and don't see a way to get any tool in there and slide the bar sideways but always put a lock on the slide bar anyways and usually a gate style hasp/latch on outside with a pad lock too.

When heading out of town, besides unplugging the garage door opener I also attach a tie down to the garage door for security.  I hook one end to a roller and the other to a slot in the roller track.  Locks the door down tightly so it can't be rolled up unless removed.  As said before make it tougher to get what they want.

Do this on both sides of the garage door. If only one side is secured, the door can still be opened from the other side; the whole door buckles and gets all crazy, diagonally off-kilter. It will twist the shit out of your door frame and the door panels, especially if the garage door opener is the thing providing the power. Ask me how I know! 😆

I’d never given it much thought until my wife told me.  She said if you want to wake up in the middle of the night to our alarm system and somebody riding off on one of your dirt bikes ya might want to take the garage door opener out of your truck.  Just use the outside keypad.

If you park your truck on the driveway, don’t leave a garage Opener on your visor.  Get a keypad for the outside.

I can't for the life of me imagine a world where I chain an insured bike up in a locked garage.

The most I'll do if I'm leaving for vacation is stick a bolt in the garage door track to prevent the door from opening.

I just can't live my life that paranoid.

Just to tag onto this…if you have a truck with the programmable (home link etc) buttons, and use them for your garage door, at least some will work with the truck off and key out…meaning all someone has to do is break into your truck in the middle of the night and hit the button.

I have to agree with you.  I’m not going to chain anything up in my garage.  I don’t even use the manual lock on my garage doors when we leave for extended periods.  I have a good camera on my driveway and doorbell ring camera, decent alarm system and insurance.

With all that said we are pretty lucky, the Friendswood side of League City, Tx is low crime for this day and time.

About 8-10 months back to the west of us a few miles in Pearland, Tx.  Ring cameras showed three guys, one driving, one checking for unlocked cars and trucks and third running down the middle of the street with a AR15 ish rifle.  These guys were serious they fired to a couple of different people who came outside.  I don’t think they ever got caught.
