One of the threads last week, somebody’s wife referred to MX clothing as a costume.  I had to laugh,  my southeast Texas wife also calls my pants and jersey my motorcycle costume.

So with 2026 stuff being advertised.  What’s on your radar for new gear or are you in my camp……….which is closeouts from a year or two back, MX Closeout, Amazon or Walmart.com and others.   I’ve done really well buying Moose Sahara on Walmart.com.  Which fits me good and vented.  It’s hot most of the time in Houston area, most of what I have is vented.  It was so hot today I saw a bird pick up a worm with a potholder.

I may shop around and get another set or two of non-vented for what little winter we have.  I have to admit, the 26 Fox pants and jerseys look really cool.

Thanks, Billy

I’ve been an avid MX guy since the early 80’s and I have bought a LOT of gear (costumes? 🤪) over those years! I have always been partial to several of the top brands & occasionally buy new stuff too…BUT my stuff has always lasted well & I am NOT opposed to wearing the old gear that’s still going strong!

So much so…that I once ACCIDENTALLY got 2nd place in a “vintage moto gear” contest at the local Thursday night MX practice under the lights a couple years ago! I didn’t KNOW it was a contest and I was just wearing my fav 0’ rite AXO gear (er’ I mean “costume”) circa 2003-ish because I always liked the way the AXO stuff from that era looked & the stuff is still in perfect shape! 😝

Local OKC badass & former AMA Pro, Whispern Smith was (intentionally) wearing some of his old pro gear from the 90’s and WON the contest…but my sweet old gear and/or lack of fashion sense managed to score THREE free nights of MX practice by accident! 😎 👍❗️

There’s a lot of gear, or as my wife says costumes I like.  But I’m cheap by nature not that my wife would agree with all the money I spend on MX bikes and such.  The other is not all vented MX gear is all that vented for hot weather.  August at Ultimate MX in Alvin, Tx wearing O’Neal Element is like wearing Carhartt’s with rain slicker to boot.  I’ll check what new costumes Moose Sahara looks like, same for TLD air or what ever it’s called.

My wife says I dress better at the track than going to Walmart.  Camo shorts, black tee shirt with the sleeves cut off is my normal ensemble……..retired and don’t give a rats ass.  No more suits and sports coats!

I have been fortunate enough to remain just barely connected to some sponsors in one way or another. Even though I don't race much anymore, I can usually get significant discounts on new gear, so that's the route I go. Still, I don't buy gear very often. Got one set this year and I'll probably buy some new boots for myself for Christmas. I try to keep it looking new and fresh, though.

A few brands are pretty good about putting old colors on closeout for great prices, FLY is one of them along with Moose.

You wouldn't believe the markup on stuff like goggles and gear.

I do like that most of you guys are calling it gear and not kits. Don't know why that even became a thing 10+ years ago pretty sure a European thing.. I won't ever call gear "kits or costumes"

Closeouts or used bundle deal from locals who bought all new when they got their bike, had one good tip-over, and sold everything for Pennie’s on the dollar.

I think the only time I ever got new gear is when I got a gear deal through Castle X a few years ago. It’s good stuff - they could have a much bigger dirt presence if that’s what they wanted to focus on.

I prefer to buy costume kits, pants, jersey and gloves.  That way everything matches.  Maybe I am a MX fashion maven after all !!!!!….Lol!

I usually have 1 or 2 pairs of riding pants, that last until they've ripped too bad to continue to wear without me getting arrested.

I rode one pair of boots for way too many years, until all of the plastic had broken off.

I collect cool jerseys as I see them, and wear them for mountain biking as well.  I like my collection, and I use them all.

I don't get new gear on a schedule.  When I see something I like, I add it to the collection, but I rarely spend more than $35 on each jersey.

I once splurged $100 for a really cool jersey at the Fox store.  When I got outside and saw the colors in the sunlight, I didn't love it, so it was returned.  If I'm going to spend that kind of money on a jersey, I'll have to really dig it.

I have a "kit" that will fit when I'm at my fighting weight.  It should be motivating, but it's about 10 years old.  Oops! Still working on it!

It has to be a culture thing, but I will never call my gear a costume or outfit.

I'm not a poser, or an actor, and it's not Halloween!  I'm a racer!

I usually gift my self some black Friday closeout gear for Christmas. I'm stoked to get 50% off last year's gear!
