The difference is, Ukraine is a country that used to actually have nukes. I have thought about this more before everyone discounts this. What if.... we give Ukraine ONE of our smallest nukes with the condition that they send it out into the ocean on one of their marine drones and detonate it in a show that they have nukes. The concocted story that they would tell is:
We have been developing our nukes in secret for the last 5 years and we just detonated one to show we have them. We have several more strategically deployed and if Russia sends nukes into Ukraine, they're going to get some back. Not only that but Russia must leave Ukraine and give back all the territory or we will set them off. Not too far fetched considering Ukraine was able to smuggle in semis full of drones into Russia to take out all those aircraft. Now in reality they have no nukes left because they blew the one up we gave them for demonstration. Heck, we wouldn't even have to give them the nuke, we could set it off ourselves and they could still tell the story that they did it.
Okay, the above is "my" suggestion on how to solve the war.
If that solved the war, there would be a rush by other countries to go nuclear, that may happen anyway.

That's the entire point of nukes. It's the ultimate deterrent. I mean we're not too sure that's why Iran wants them (or North Korea) but "in general" that's the benefit of being a nuclear country. If Iran already had nukes do you think Israel and the US would have gone in and bombed them? No way. Nobody is going in and bombing North Korea.

I believe that Russia has intelligence agencies that are pretty deep into the Ukrainian military and government and they’d know that Ukraine doesn’t have their own nukes. The only potential question might be which nuclear nation gave them the ‘demonstration’ weapon and how to react to that country. Hopefully we never get to that point but with the ‘ready, fire, aim’ approach to foreign policy through social media, I suppose that this is more likely than ever.
But they could say, this was "super duper" secret, not just your run of the mill secret nuclear program like Iran runs.
