He's been a pro off road driver since 92'. ....since the days of the Mickey Thompson stadium trucks.

RJ is my favorite motocrosser of all time... the guy is a winner, a stud and a class act all rolled into one.

It's pretty cool how close the off road truck race set ups are to mx. The tracks, the pits, the big rigs, and all are very similar. They have the trucks lined up just outside the big rigs just like they would if they had bikes under the tents. Only difference is the million dollar price tag and some role cages..lol Not too mention guys like RJ, and MC's names on the side of those big rigs. When I fall asleep and fantasize about what I would love to do as I get older it's off road truck racing. It's got to be unreal driving a car with that much horse power around a moto track. Sure the tracks aren't like the mx tracks of today w/peaked out hits everywhere but they're very similar to the mx tracks us older bucks grew up racing.

When you get old you get a role cage..

I remember reading a story somewhere about Rick when he first started driving off-road trucks out in the desert. They said something about having to coach him to take it easy on the trucks... seems he was going wfo all the time and tearing the trucks up at a high rate!

Awesome. Great moto champion and truck champion. That sport is lucky to have the moto guys out there showing there skills in the dirt. I still have a pair of signed goggles of his from the 1986 Daytona sx. I was staying with my uncle in the pits for the week while he wrenched for a street bike racer. I spent the whole time in RJ's or Wardy's pits for most of the time. ! was 13.

That was back in the day. These days as long as you hit stuff stuff with the tires down and the throttle on you'll most likely drive out of it. Big rocks and other trucks excluded...
Last I heard it takes about $250 to $300 K in just parts to build one. Another $200K in labor. Bout half a Million to have a new truck with no spares. You can pick up used ones anywhere from 100 to 400K.

So with age comes a cage huh? More a matter of thats just what he happens to be racing right now. RJ is still racing AND WINNING on a bike in Baja....

RJ is still awesome. It's his passion for winning that still shines through- mixed with a little humor. That's what makes him inspiring.
To me, that's what sets a lot of the 80s guys apart from the "dude brah" riders of today. Not that they aren't good. But RJ lives in the moment.
