I would have to say respect for the sport is as good a reason as any. I respect a racer that can put two 30 min. plus 2 laps motos together and get a win, or even finish top 20 for that matter.

Kobe has killed all Jordan's records? Really? That's a horrible analogy.
Jordan:
Highest career regular season scoring average
Highest career post season scoring average
6 NBA titles
5 NBA MVP awards
14 time NBA Allstar
6 time NBA finals MVP
3 time NBA allstar MVP
9 time all NBA defensive 1st team
2 time slam dunk champ
2 Gold medals
10 time all NBA first team
10 time scoring champ (tied with Wilt for most ever)

Bryant:
5 NBA titles
2 time NBA finals MVP
1 time NBA MVP
12 time NBA allstar
2 time scoring champ
8 time all NBA first team
8 time all NBA defensive 1st team
1 time slam dunk champ

So remind us all how Kobe has "killed all Jordans records"? The only category I can think of that Kobe leads Jordan is in rape charges.

I W00t at that too.

Kobe will never be worthy of holding MJ's jockstrap. His main fan base is in SoCal, and he's hated/not liked most everywhere else.

Jordan has Class and way into his retirement years still does. Michael never had the hated fan base that Kobe has even to opponents fans.

Every time I saw him (in the Finals too, when they beat my Suns) I knew it was something special that I would remember for life. It was like seeing Babe Ruth in the World Series. Guys like that don't come around very often.

I don't feel the same way watching Kobe.

Respect for the sport?

Do you have any idea how many years, and how many races these pro level riders put in to reach this level?

Kobe: #1 selling jersey in Europe 3 years in row and #1 selling jersey in China 4 years in a row and I'd say he's kicking ass here to in the states too....but regardless I love MJ he is the man and he's into motorcycles albeit street but it's all good to me !! Can't we all just agree to disagree ? I'm good with it really.

Hey Jim,

All SX only = no more outdoor motocross.

Surely, you can see the problem there?

And, I have a life, thanks. Maybe you could quit talking down to everybody from your high horse, that would cool.

Sure they do, but that shouldn't cause us to hate on someone for making a good deal or doing it their way.

It depends on your age..... us old timers where riding/racing before SX existed. We are the die hard MXer's who feel real MX is outdoors. SX to me is rather boring, like a ballet. Jump, corner, whoops, jump, jump. Kinda boring. SX only contracts kinda seem weak at best, I'm not a fan of them.

I don't hate them Jay, can't think of any Pro rider I hated. But a SX only rider will never have my interest as someone like RC, RV and now Dungey.

I really enjoy the Outdoors more, always will.

I was pleased when Chad Reed came back to the Outdoors after his SX-only stint. I image he was too - he won the Championship. It was never a question of "hate" but rather a matter of disappointment.

Why is it that when someone speaks the truth, they are speaking from a "high horse" as you call it? As long as people like you are racing on the weekends at your local tracks, there will always be outdoor racing. Will there always be pro level outdoor racing? The market will dictate that. Not the weekend enthusiast, or the pro level racers.

What it amounts to is that it's not about me, or you for that matter. It's about those who are fortunate enough to have the ability to participate at this level, and those who can make money off of those that are more talented than you and I.

From your comment, you are the one that is lacking in respect. You don't seem to understand what these kids have already invested a lot of time, blood, sweat and tears to get to this level.

I think all of us would like to see all the Top Pros riding both MX and SX. But, as dangerous as this sport is if a rider can make the same amount of money racing Supercross only it might be smart for him to choose that type of contract. Your racing career is short but your life is long, being healthy for it sure would be nice.

And if anyone actually hates a Dirt Bike racer for choosing what they feel is right for their life and career, then they have some issues that they should be on a self help forum instead of this one. IMO

On a side note, in the August 2010 issue of Transworld MX they interviewed 48 Pro riders and 84% said they would rather win a SX race than a MX race.

I do think MX Sports is getting the Outdoors to the level that all riders will want to be there, and make more money by racing both series in the near future.

I am 53 and have been involved in the sport since the age of 10 or 11. I have been involved in many levels of the sport, and I understand how many hours, seat time and injuries these kids today have been through to achieve this level of racing.

With all due respect, years put in by a weekend enthusiast doesn't compare.

Sorry, if this has been addressed already in the 5 pages I didn't bother to read through...

Why doesn't San Manuel get grief as an Indian tribe for blowing off the 'natural terrain' and origins of our sport, and supporting SX only deals. Indians ignoring the 'natural' aspect of our sport on unincorporated land, has always perplexed me.... is the mighty dollar that powerful? Tepees = motocross, casinos = supercross?

The evolution of SX only deals of our best racers, will most likely result in the European domination of the MXdN within the next few years. Motocross is still their primary discipline while our racers are working towards SX being their primary discipline. Remember this post in 2015, so I can say I called the inevitable Euro/World GP domination of motocross. Thank God, for the World GP motocross racers ~S~

It'll be the 70's all over again Smile

And, why doesn't ANYONE know what Stroupe is doing next year? Every Stroupe post provides zero information.

You keep comparing weekend warriors to pro motocross, I don't get that.

I understand where you're coming from and why, I have been paying attention. I'm just growing so very tired of hearing the "invested so much time to get to this level" argument". With all due respect, TOUGH SHIT! Life is hard, and so is rising to the top of any sport, job, career, etc.

SX only = top pros not racing outdoors.... that is not going to last very long. imo.

This horse is dead, I'm going to sleep, gotta another day of work, maybe a workout after, and all for much less than I'm worth. Sign of the times, I guess.

I don't have much sympathy for guys that get paid to ride and train, sorry. And being a big moto fan, I want to see the "heros" race both series... heck, even outdoors only would be better for me, "the fan".

]end rant

Yes, as long as they also get a decent base salary racing isn't a sure thing like completing a brick wall or fixing a car ect.

I'm against the SX only stuff but I totally understand and respect the decisions some of these young Men make,

this so called "Core" is ridiculous in the fact that people expect these young Men to risk their life for basically nothing but our entertainment.

You never cease to amaze me, man. I agree completely about having some type of base salary, also about being a fan of the nationals, and everything else here for that matter.

I know much of your stuff is fishing, but why the change over?

SX is the preseason to the Outdoors regular season!

SX is the appetizer to the MX entree.

SX is jump, jump, jump, turn 180 then jump, jump jump, turn 180, whoop, whoop, whoop turn 90, repeat! MX is whoooa shiiiitttt!\.

SX is "can't they make anything but cookie cutter tracks"?, SX is "can they make longer lap times"? MX is Reeeeeeedddd Buuuuuudddd!, Gravity Cavity, Screw U!

SX is 20 laps, in less than 20 minutes.... MX is 30 minutes plus 2..........twice!

SX is uhhh, rythym? MX is outright speed.

SX is like going to a movie. MX is like going camping.

SX is fluorescent. MX is sunshine.

No hate here!

Isn't it more of the 'Core' believing that a racers should have the same passion for the outdoors as they do? I don't think any of the 'Core' sit around saying 'risk your life and entertain me, young motocrosser'. That's not it at all. It's 'how can you not love to be a a part of of outdoor motocross.... the foundation of the sport we love?!?!

Only a traitor would turn their back on something like that...

Analogy..... Kobe Bryant no longer feels the need to play defense on the court., just offense. Would that be ok with Laker fan?

Motocross and Supercross do not have any similarities to basketball or any other team sports. Nice try, though!

Us old guys got what we had hoped for some 30 odd years ago. Making the sport more mainstream (I know not entirely but much closer) and the riders started getting paid some decent bucks.

Unfortunely we got what we hoped for. Mainstream meant the non-hardcore fans began to outnumber us and they prefer the flash and circus of SX so thats where the bucks went. And the riders started getting paid better and the decisions they make became more financial in nature.

Hence SX only contracts.

Be careful what you hope for.

Post a reply to: is it mandatory to hate on anyone who is SX only ?
