It was a decent listen. As with most politicians, you can see how they try to spin some things to make themselves or their positions sound better than they are.
But the one thing that stuck out is that he’s electable as hell. I don’t listen to him much except for an occasional YouTube clip and haven’t ever given him too much thought, but he definitely struck me as a guy who can win over some of the electorate that may start out completely opposed to him.
I have a feeling that if he’s going to run (against JD?) that he’ll announce fairly early, like before this time next year. It’s going to be interesting!!!!

Manny, you’re incorrectly taking the original post as an endorsement or support for Newsom. It isn’t. Nor is it a review of any of the current issues in California.
I believe that he’s immensely politically savvy, but that doesn’t mean that I want him to be president. I actually believe that his strength is closer to that of Trump than of Biden. He’s someone who can make people vote on their emotions, and make them feel that he’s ‘one of them’ when he clearly isn’t.
He’s like a Bill Clinton type of politician, only I think that he’s even more polished and practiced since he’s learned lessons from people like Clinton on how to sway the voters.
There’s a reason he’s pretty much been a 60% vote winner in both elections and his recall campaign, and based upon your comments about the current state of California it’s probably due to his ability to speak to and sway voters, don’t you think?
I suggest listening to the Ryan podcast objectively with the focus being on his electability, not what you think his results have been or whether you personally support him. I think he’s got the potential to be a political animal. I’m not commenting on whether that’s a good thing or bad thing.

I have the worst radar of any person you've ever met. I have a really hard time telling if someone is lying or being genuine when they speak. But even I can tell that Gavin Newsom is a fork-tongued liar, cheat, and corrupt as they come. He has the smoothest, glitziest, shiniest countenance of anybody I've ever seen in politics, and if you think the ladies won't vote for him just because he's handsome, well you must have not seen the JFK and Clinton campaigns.
Newsom has taken all the worst policies of the State of California and turned them up to 11. We went from a budget surplus to a multi-billion dollar deficit in just a few years. There is homelessness everywhere, the roads are woefully underdeveloped, and we've already spent billions on a high-speed rail system that has gotten us 1600 feet of track. (It's only a coincidence that Nancy Pelosi's husband got the contract to build the rail system; never mind that little factoid.) Schools are forced to install tampon dispensers in the boys bathrooms (in grade school, no less,) and order enough school lunches for every single kid enrolled, even though less than half of them eat those lunches. What happens at the end of the day? The food must be destroyed - you cannot donate it to a food bank under penalty of law.
The sad truth is that he IS very electable, by people who just don't understand how bad he will make America become. For all of you who hate California, do not allow this charlatan to become President of the United States. You've been warned.

Newsom chose the right show to go on, for sure. Shawn Ryan is a great interviewer, but he prides himself of just asking the questions and not challenging the answers. Most people can see through it, but Newsom knows he will have a lot of great soundbites form a right-leaning show. He'll try to use sound bites to convince middle-right that he is on their side.
It's also been speculated that Newsom has Asperger's, and spends a tremendous amount of time preparing for questions and interviews. When he doesn't get questions that he knows, he tends to have problems. I assume most of the questions he got from SRS were given to him in advance based on his overall performance.
SRS did sneak in some good things. I think the best thing they did was hand him a gun as a gift. It probably puts Newsom in the most awkward position to defend politically.
