They are the same, they just separated because the AMA is non-profit and proracing makes a profit.
"oh wow, real money to be made here"
But we're non-profit
"Not a problem, we'll just separate the two"
Way to make the thread weird.
We need more of this. Action Sports need to get in front of more eyeballs. Need a Rogan appearance next. Maybe not Deegs for that format tho…
We need AC on that format.
Hayden and Brian boutta bring sports center back to its peak. Let’s go

Wrong...They are completely different entities, AMA in Ohio is non-profit and AMA Pro Racing is for profit and owned by DMG in Daytona (who bought the rights in 2008). They own all the rights to professional motorcycle racing in the US and lease the rights to the entities that promote each series....and in MX that's MXSports.
AMA Pro Racing was formed in 1994 to respond to the growth of motorcycle racing in the United States and holds many events. The AMA Road Racing Series includes the AMA American Superbike Championship, the AMA Daytona Sportbike Championship (which incorporates the former AMA Supersport Championship and the now inactive AMA Formula Xtreme), and the new AMA Supersport Championship, which is limited to riders of age 16-21 on near stock 600cc motorcycles.
Off-road racing series include AMA Grand National Championship, AMA Supercross, AMA Motocross Championship, AMA Hillclimb, AMA Supermoto Championship and AMA EnduroCross Championship.
On March 7, 2008, the AMA Pro Racing series was sold to the Daytona Motorsports Group (DMG), headed by Roger Edmondson and Jim France. The DMG became responsible for the AMA Superbike Series, AMA Motocross Series, AMA Flat Track Series, AMA Supermoto Series, AMA Hillclimb Series, and ATV Pro Racing. The sale did not include the AMA Supercross and AMA Arenacross Series, whose rights are currently owned by Feld Entertainment. DMG would license the AMA name and trademarks to promote the motorcycle racing series.[9][10][11] The new management sparked criticism among some of the press and fans for allegedly alienating the factory teams [12][13] and for introducing NASCAR style rules such as rolling start and pace car.[14] DMG was replaced by MotoAmerica as AMA Superbikes promoter in 2015.
Honestly, ESPN is only doing this for X-games, and yet again, the average Joe who doesn't follow the sport and sees this is going to think SX and MX (SMX) guys are the same ones as those at the X games doing backflips. This will NOT grow SX, MX, or SMX, it's just going to further the stereotype that all dirt bikers just go out and do backflips or wheelies..........
The Princess on TV. Did he show off his tramp stamp?
Even though he's retired, I'd suggest AC. Most of the riders do not come off that well to people outside of moto. If you want the sport to grow you need to promote riders who don't exemplify the 'sick bro, gnarly' bro image. Or the mumbling idiot redneck image.
I've not watched the clip - and don't intend to. So, was this for X-games? If so, as you rightly point out, that's fucked for the sport. I've said it on here time and time again that FMX has been a net negative for motocross and supercross. As you say, general Joe Blow on the street thinks moto/supercross and FMX are the same thing. It's a shame as moto is a proper motorsport whereas FMX is a pile of crap populated by shit riders with neck tattoos (except for Travis of course - he's the one exception).
it's interesting this constant feeling that the sport needs to go on "main stream" medias like ESPN's SC and national TV to grow. We've been there, a few times before, we've been on mainnight shows, we've been on SC, we had motorcycle show on ESPN, we had races on ESPN.
It's a small sport with a small demographic and it is the same size today that it was in 1965, same as in the 90s, same as in the 2000's. MC wa son main stream TV, RC, TP, Bubba, and everytime there's the crowd that think "wow, TP was on ESPN and Letterman, wow, we're blowing". Nah. Same things. Same consumers demo, same small circle, same size small motorsport.
I hope the promoters have a plan to find financing outside of the energy drinks industry, because the day they go away, there's no money to go racing and promote it.
As someone who was tangled in AMA Pro Racing for a while I can assure they are just as bad and worthless
Never seen a professional athlete bring their father on an interview. Cringey for sure.
Yeah man, I'm sure some of the father son duos who played in the Major Leagues never did that.
I'm sure Tiger Woods never brought his incredibly influential father on any interviews either.
The Williams Sisters, their Dad was a huge part of their success, I bet he never talked to the press with them.
How about John & Eli Tomac? They've never done an interview together? Really?
You really fucking think another athlete has never done an interview with their dad? How about when their Dad is relevant to the interview like Brian given that he competed in the same sport and also has value to ESPN as one of the most recognizable X Games athletes in history?
What's cringey is how fucking desperate people are to shit talk the Deegans. Pathetic might be a better word for it though.
Exactly this, unfortunately.
Yeah you're right, I forgot about Tony Alessi. He took motocross to the next level of professionalism, thanks for the reminder!
Maybe we can get Jett's Dad to do the press conference with him this weekend?
I get it, but if your dad had won multiple gold medals on that networks “extreme” sports property, it makes sense.
fair point
Pit Row
What the fuck does Tony Allessi have to do with this?
You said something stupid, I gave a bunch of relevant examples of how it was stupid. So you said something more stupid?
That's cringey.
Go ahead little buddy, lets see what the fuck else random shit you can come up with to keep running your mouth about the Deegans.
Brian is just like a child pageant mommy. Always has to insert himself into the spotlight
i still think calling the combined series "supermotocross" is awful.
X- Games Athletes? Brian Deegan is not an athlete, he's a shtick.
I know, it sounds moronic. Again, not helping the rep with the general public. If, of course, you care about 'growing the sport'. Personally, I don't give a fuck about that.
Unfortunately this is the truth. People that have asked me about motocross think exactly this. They think travis only did flips and tricks. They don't know anything about the racing part of the sport. They think motocross is freestyle.
I just hope it doesn't one day get ruined like F1
See interview on SML. Deegan just spent a fair portion of it blowing himself about appearing on Sportcenter and having 1.8 million followers. Lewis Hamilton has 39.6 million instagram followers. Also, he said going on Sportcenter was more important than going to 'some fashion show'. Ah no, I think you'll find if you want to grow the sport - in terms of getting it out to the mainstream - the Met Gala is a much bigger deal than Arsecentre. Haiden's head is even bigger than Brian's tramp stamp.
How big is your head since the Deegans are obviously living inside yours? Why not just accept this for what it is or just move on? It’s a positive thing for everyone, why throw shade or make ridiculous comparisons to things that are completely irrelevant? Maybe you missed your nap or need your diaper changed?
i havent watched espn in 20 years. lol
I'm not going to miss an opportunity to point out the Deegan's bullshit.
Good point made by his mechanic about the importance of press day at Southwick. He said it’s good to have the track fresh in your head when you first get on the track, since it will never be faster. I think Deegan would win either way though.
