I heard from a guy on our local forum that the AMA is allowing 150 and 300 in supercross and motocross from a petition or something. Any truth to this?

Already outlawed and it was just in the prototype stages for 2011.

Not 3 stroke, but with intake combustion and exhaust all going on at the same time, a single rotor 125cc engine might just have potential. Smile

That looks like something the AMA would approve. A 150 or 300 is all you would need against the 4 bangers. It would be good if we had equal displacements.

We can only hope, but the AMA will never go against the OEM's, and the OEM's would never say yes to that.

I would love to hear a KTM300SX blasting thru the whoops at the Indy SX next year, but it won't happen.

OK I have a stupid question potentially. What is the factories interest in 4 strokes only? Could the manufacturing cost of a 2 stroke help them sell more bikes? Is it just the advantage of the 4 strokes ease of use.

Hey Newmann,
That must have been the pre-prototype. The prototype version I saw had reverse cylinder and straight chamber. It was also running a leading link front end.

One of the Japanese tech's told me that their marketing department does all the design work these days, as they have realised that "gimmick" products with the correct marketing sells the greatest.

4 stroke MX bikes cost a lot to maintain.

Manufacturers make more money selling parts than they do bikes.

A 4-stroke is the gift that keeps on giving (back to the manufacturers that is!)

I could think of at least 4 and no more than 10 threads you could have looked at before starting another thread! You should fit in just fine around here!

I would personally have no issues with a new displacements rule that allowed 150cc and 300cc. I think it should be more like 200cc in the small bores and unlimited in the 450 class. With that said, I think this guy is full of shit.

How are you so sure that it is Burn1986?

He is way too classy to do something as boneheaded as this...

To answer the opening post, the petition is being reviewed by the AMA, but as far as I know they have not voted on it one way or the other.

Well, there's another person in this thread that's on his third account, and his username starts with a P.

I have a feeling my tolerance for this stuff during the off-season's going to be at an all-time low.

1) It's BS

2) I love 2 strokes but really it needs to be closer to equal displacement for the 2 strokes to really have a chance.
