I do know how long you have been around two wheeled sports.
In that time have you ever had an opinion that went against the masses?
Have you ever broken a story?
Have you ever had a real opinion about someone or something?
Have you ever not been a fan of everyone and hoped they all did well?

I didn't go to the race because I couldn't get anyone to go with me. Wife said no, kids who are 12 and 16 both didn't want to go. Most my friends are just casual fans and decided not to go . No Reed, No James. No Villopoto. 450 championship wrapped up. No qualifying races. Oh and traffic in and out of that place I thought would be a nightmare.

Poking people in the eye??? Really? Damn, if I am poking people in the eye, what are some of the other guys doing. I post what I think is a thought out idea or thought. I just don't post shit to slam people. I blasted Glen Helen last year saying there was no way 25,000 people there. I call it as I see it.

It's all good, I know it's your job and why risk saying anything that is going to get a rider or factory guy to not talk to you.
Have I broken a story? Sure. Exclusives are hard to come by, but a couple off the top of my head would be...

David Bailey talking about the Leatt Brace.
First photos of Chad Reed on a Monster Energy Kawasaki.

I'm sure there are plenty more. But I don't collect them to pull out of my pocket when necessary. I keep plugging forward.

I generally do like all the riders...unless they've given me a reason not to like them. Talking with Pourcel last week, he seemed surprised that I didn't have a preference between himself and Trey heading into the last round of the 250 National Championship. I did tell him that I just wanted to see a good race.

I've expressed plenty of opinions on here. Currently, I think the two-stroke Taliban wants my scalp because I've said that I think racing a two-stroke at the pro level is rather futile.

But if it'll make you feel better, I'll express another opinion that goes against the masses.

Ready? Here goes...

By the way GuyB we don't want your scalp, we want Matthes scalp. Looks like he had a couple of beverages earlier today, got a little mouthy and spoke out against the Two Stroke Taliban. Looks like we're gonna have to tie him down and waterboard his a$$ with some 927! If he thought screwin with Guiseppe was bad, wait till the TST gets ahold of himAngry Devil W00t

Your myopic view of this whole topic is amusing.

Glen Helen gets the USGP and a scheduled MXdN and Pala gets its AMA National and the So Cal race fans get to benefit from both events.

You for some reason have a hard time understanding this simple scenario for some reason.

I think you will find that promised MXDN at Glen Helen got dumped before the ink had even dried on the announcement.

2011 St Jean D;Angely (France)
2012 Lommel (Belgium)
2013 Teutschenthal (Germany)
2014 Latvia

I think it got dropped after the Ghost Town they called the GP

yet more wonderful national arrogance... - The GPs have more nationalities it it than the US series... The British Nationals have had as many nationalities racing in it as the US series.. South Africans... Americans.. Estonians.. Latvians...Russians..Irish.. Scottish .. Welsh.. English.. New Zealand...Japanese ...and most riders in the GPs don't go to the US ...

Open your eyes... motocross is a lot bigger than just the US series...again the US series is great - the best national series in the world and smilar in standard to a World series, but it is not better than the GPs...and American riders are not better than riders from other countries either - they just have more fast riders than other countries because it is a bigger country.. it's all similar - fast is fast - World GPs or American Nationals- a top rider from either will be fast in both..- but the series are very different Dungey would not dominant the GPs like he does his national series and vice versa because of the different racing styles and track.. but they would both be up there... it is a shame ur national arrogance won't let you see that and enjoy the quality and differences in both series...

Supercross is a US sport so obviously if you want to race it .. you need to go to America... but to believe the US motocross series and AMerican riders are vastly superior to a world championship is absurd especially when GP riders can go their and win.

Tyla as a former mx2 world champion and now in you 2nd season of on the AMA national circuit which series do you think is tougher, deeper & more talented?

Definitely the racing here is tougher and deeper than in Europe

Everyone says the best riders in the world are in America, so thats the reason I wanted to come here.

Who is this Tyla guy and what the hell does he know?
Why did he get beat by Roczen and Musquin at last year's nation then?...why where Musquin and Roczen quicker than Metty, Weimar and Tyla last year didn't he get second this year? can't be that much better... Rattray is only talking about MX2... the MX2 class can't be faster in the US since it was the GP ridwer from the 2006-2007 GP MX2 era doing the winning ( except for Canard). All riders are faster in their own country too... that is what makes racing in the US hard for foreigners too.

You obviously weren't listening to DMXS when they said to Tommy Searle that the AMA series was the best in the world right? Tommy said no it isn't... the level is high but so are the GPs... and he right- that is the truth.

The pace is no different, at the front in MX2 US than MX2 GPs... that is why Tyla and Pourcel where at the front in both series. It is a different style of racing that's all...you need to let go of the delusional arrogance that the AMA series is superior and the riders are faster esp when it is GP riders at the front in MX2...that proves more than anything how fast the GP riders and series are. the AMA is not faster and the riders aren't better it is similar but very different.

They have a GP that is as good as a national if not better... but American mx fans are to ignorant and insulated to realise that. More media coverage of the GPs on US websites and Magazines would help overcome that. It still amazes me more people go to a national championship than a world championship round in the USA... it says alot for the mentality.... AMerican fans should embrace both and stop seeing the GPs as a rival series... it's not.

it is a win win for the Cali fans- a World GP at Glen Helen and iconic track and a US national at a new track like Pala - could it get any better?!

McCread, I was at both races, so I 'spose I'm qualified to express an opinion. I'm not sure what constitutes better, but in my opinion, Pala had a much better field in both of the primary classes, and better attendance by a wide margin.

As far as why more people would go to Pala? You had championship drama in the 250s, plus the novelty of a new event on the schedule. Honestly, I think it had been a while since Glen Helen had the kind of crowd that we saw on Saturday...and I've sat in traffic getting in and out of there before, too.

I like both the GPs and U.S. National series. Maybe if there was a better way to watch it over here, that would help. The annual hype for the MXoN is where people here get excited about the seeing our guys (and I'm including the international riders who race here in the "our" category) meet the best from the rest of the world who we don't see regularly.

My point is more people will go to Pala because Americans mainly follow American racing... the World Championship is not American so they don't want anything to do with it. I agree the GPs should be on TV... but don't most fans follow motocross on the internet and magazines too? If I go on an American motocross magazine website or buy a magazine they is little to no GP coverage.. how are fans supposed to know about a series they are not given information about... the same goes for the rider... you are inspired by what you see and Americans don't grow up seeing GPs on TV( which is where I agree with you) or magazines.. whereas other countries publicise the AMA stuff as much as GPs hence foreign riders are inspired to race in the US. Why do the American media not give the World Championship as much coverage as the US nationals? I have never understood that since the series are equally brilliant surely true motocross fans would want to follow both... when was the last time an American mag had a GP rider on the cover...

Michael Leib is a prime example of the view many AMericans have of the GPs ( probably based of MXDN results which has nothing to do with GP racing) in a recent interview he said he was surprised initially how fast the riders in the GPs are and that he had never heard of Musquin Roczen, Frossard etc..His view is totally different now of the GPs to before he came over and I bet he will say it is similar to the US Nationals but different..

in fact you hear quite alot about how surprised American riders are at the pace of the GPs guys.. Dungey said he didn't expect them to the that fast at the NAtions last year...the surprise you constantly here inferes the general perception in America for some reason is the World Championship series is not as good as the AMerican series... so following that logic why would an American go to watch a non-american series with riders they never heard of that they believe isn't as good as their own... that is the mentality that needs to be overcome for the GPs to get a big crowd in the US...

As far as the two series go I would say MX1 is deeper than the 450 class in the US... but the 250 class is probably deeper ( thought not faster at the front, I think Musquin and Pourcel are as good as Pourcel and Canard) than the MX2 GPs.. I would actually there is an arguement the 250 class in the states is deeper than the 450 class too... I think that stems from having two regional supercross series.

Personally I am glad I watch both series ... as if you don't you are really missing out - last weekend was great saturday nigth AMA nationals - Sunday a fantastic GP - awesome!!

Did anyone here take Sociology 101 in college?

Ethnocentrism is the tendency to believe that one's ethnic or cultural group is centrally important, and that all other groups are measured in relation to one's own. The ethnocentric individual will judge other groups relative to his or her own particular ethnic group or culture, especially with concern to language, behavior, customs, and religion. These ethnic distinctions and sub-divisions serve to define each ethnicity's unique cultural identity.[1]

The term ethnocentrism was coined by William G. Sumner, upon observing the tendency for people to differentiate between the ingroup and others. He described it as often leading to pride, vanity, beliefs of one's own group's superiority, and contempt of outsiders.

In your opinion which of the following races, with equal marketing, would garner the higher attendance?

1. World MX GP in Europe.

2. US MX National, with US National riders, held in Europe.

Be honest.

But in America, it's easy to think like this, because 98% of the time it's true!

You for some reason have a hard time understanding this simple scenario for some reason.
What year does Glen Helen have the MXdN?
Things can change quickly with the FIM.

Next year when more US riders race the USGP event it will be a different atmosphere and attendance should go up.

Pala had 5 months to get ready, Glen Helen had six weeks to promote the USGP.

As a motocross fan I support both events with equal passion, something quite a few of the goobers in here could learn to do.

Well first off I wouldn't brag that GH got a GP and lost a national, you know based on attendance. Don't say oh they just had 6 weeks to promote it.... Nobody went cause they charged an arm and a leg... And if they do that next year nobody will go next year, but that's their problem. And I'm sorry, when was the MXdN coming to Glen Helen, I think you forgot to tell me?

First off they gave up the National, they could not come to terms with the AMA National people.

Attendance was low because it was an all Euro race with Mike Alessi and Ben Townley. Next year if more AMA riders attend it will be like the Carlsbad type of days.

What's your deal? Did Jody or Glen Helen call you out on something and you got your feelings hurt? You seem to have a big axe to grind for some unknown reason.

USGP has the same problem they had this year, scheduling.

Why would any top level rider risk injury at GH for a one-off race, in the midst of the National Championship Series, at an event that pays no purse, and jeopardize that very National Championship series which is their contracted priority?

Put it at the end of the season, you might have something.

Make it the last race on the GP's, the week before the MXdN, and it might work.

But as it is scheduled now?

You got racers already beat up, banged up and tired from the SX series, in need of additional outdoor testing time as well as R&R who just began the National Championship Series the week before this scheduled USGP.

No purse

No show money

No title chase to be involved in

Nothing to gain but some bragging rights

and a shitload to lose

USGP is a hard sell to riders and teams who have a shot at a championship

no nobody there did anything to me, i just think that those guys thought that they were gonna stick it to mxsports cause they wanted improvements that they wouldnt deliver on. i think they thought they were were gonna still have a crowd without doin anything. They failed. Bigtime. I give DC some crap on the two stroke deal, but other than that he has done alot to improve MX. This Luongo guy represents everything that could/can be wrong with MX. When a guy has to walk around with bodyguards at his own event there is something wrong with that guy. He charges big time to race and pays no purse. When DC gets the american mx sorted out, he could go over there and take over the GP's with ease. Bottom line, Bud signed a deal with the devil, and no one showed up. I agree with flarider 100%, no one will show up next year either, no purse, nothing to gain, e everything to lose. So for the American spectator, at the end of the day who wants to spend $150 to watch those guys ride.... Not me, and obviously not the other 20 or 30 some odd thousand that showed up at pala and not GH. Dont even say they didnt have time to advertise. I would bet that 90% of the people that passed through the gates of Pala knew GH was having a race, nobody wanted to go and pay that much. So I just think those guys are a little proud of their track, and paid for it....

yet more wonderful national arrogance...

Why not have some of the GP rounds over lap a couple of the National rounds?
What I mean is,do like they do with the FIM World SX series combine the events, for lets say 2 or 3 races here in the States.

It would be cool seeing guys like Dungey & RV race against Cairoli,Nagl,Philippaerts,etc...when it all would count for points during each of the series they are competing in.
Maybe even give some bonus points at those rounds.... Wink

I wonder if there ever is a chance of Youth Stream/FIM & MX Sports/AMA ever working together to do something like this....

Trip, not too put too fine a point on it, but your schtick of poking people in the eye just because you can is kind of lame. The truth is, it's probably way easier to predict that you'd come along and dismiss what the photographers and writers who were actually at the race than over what I'd have to say about it.

Were you at the race? Or were you just armchairing this one because it wasn't 15 minutes from your house?

I also don't think you have any idea how long I've been writing and shooting two-wheeled sports...whether BMX, mountain bikes, or moto.

As far as the fields, Dungey was in a league of his own this year. But that doesn't mean there wasn't great racing behind him...or throughout the pack...on a 40-rider gate. And how many riders were on the gate in the 250 class at GH?

I wouldn't put too much weight on that example. How many riders were on the gate at the Toronto SX? That's an established round of the series that can be driven to, not a last minute inclusion that involved an ocean crossing.

As a non-American, I do see some truth in what mccread is saying about the ethnocentricity thing.

For example, the premier sports in the US are sports that were invented there, and are mostly played only there at a high level e.g. basketball, baseball, American football.

Also a propensity for using the term "World" to describe domestic sporting championships e.g. World Series baseball, World Off Road Championships, World Four Stroke championship etc.

Post a reply to: Where does Glen Helen.....
