Guys,

Working on a project and need some research help...What do you think were McGrath's best races. I'm not talking about ALL the ones where he holeshotted and pulled away.

I'm talking about the ones where he got a bad start, fell down, etc. Or...some one was on it and gave him a good fight.

I already know about 1996 St. Louis w/Emig and 2001 Anaheim#2 with RC.

Others?

Thanks for help!

Todd

Him winning an outdoor title period. That guy partied so much I still can't believe he took the Outdoors seriously just to shut people up. Have to love it.

When he got his Daytona SX win I think that was pretty big . I don't remeber it being a particularly thrilling race but it was when he was still at a point when some questioned his toughness so it was a statement in my opinion .

Pontiac in 95 or 96 where he went to the heat/semi/LCQ and still won the main.

Think it was the San Jose SX when he came from dead last..way back, to miss the win by just a few feet.

*i have been up since 4am and I am fully delirious, so i could be completely wrong.

Not being a mcgrath fan my choice would be the one he retired at. Before you guys get on me about this remember he is the one who started all this supercross only crap.

One of his Peak 125 rides at the end of the season. Didn't he get stuck in the gate and end up winning? Maybe me and scottie are thinking the same race.

Thanks Everyone!

Keep'em coming...Emig mentioned a race that he passed Jeff through the whoops like he was standing still and jumped over Larry Ward looking down at him...

What race was this?

i Think there was an anaheim race where he crashed first turn and came from dead last to win the race..it was epic, it was either san diego or anahiem i forget what year though

If memory serves me right I think Dallas in maybe 2000? Him and Carmichael. I could be confusing that with a Carmichael/Reed battle though.

Dallas, with Windham in first turn I think. Worked up to second?

+1 I think he got the holeshot from the far outside gate too.

A friend of mine has McGrath's Peak/Pro-Circuit CR250 from 92 that he used in 4 or 5 East coast 250 rounds. Although still in the 125 class he was laying some serious ass whipping on some 250 regulars. Ask him about those races.

Atlanta maybe 95 (or close) while wearing the helmet cam on lap one he slamed into Mike Craig and had to come from WAY back to win... if you can find that race it shows both helmet cam and TV cam angles on that crash

That was a great race, however McGrath didn't win it.

After going down with Craig he worked his way back through the pack to briefly take the lead, but was soon passed by Larocco.

The only one that really stands out is Anaheim 93, but probably only because he passed Stanton right in front of where I was sitting. Supercross changed forever that day.

No lie I watched this exact race about 2 hours ago from a downloaded copy I have. So good for the first half of the race then he just leaves Emig behind.

Up until that point he had gotten holeshots, or great starts, and then pulled away. This was the first race that shut the critics up, because he started 15th, or so, and just picked riders off one by one. 20 minutes later he was on top of the box.

I would add his first supercross win... When he passed Jeff Stanton for the win, and that was the moment of the changing of the guard in supercross.

Seattle 1996 battle with Damon Huffman was pretty epic. First time I ever saw McGrath out of breath on the podium.

Not really his greatest, but most memorable to me is his "comeback" season in 2006 when he pulled the holeshot in the main in Phoenix and just for fun busted out a NacNac over the first big jump......on a CR250 no less.

The place went nuts!!
