I was wondering when was the last time the AMA PRO RACING did a teardown of anyone's bike in the 250 class supercross / outdoor???

Probably Mark Barnett in the 80's. He crashed just a few turns in to the race (125's). Started dead last from there. He came back to win, one of the teams protested. They thought no way that was a 125. Paid the fee, took it apart, it was a 125. This was at High Point. Unbelievable race.

AMA wouldn't do it in Motocross. Supercross, yes. Motocross, no.

The AMA doesn't do it on their own . A team would have to file a protest saying they feel a machine is not within spec .

Understood. But for the Nationals, the AMA would have nothing to do with it at any point since they don't sanction that series.

I believe it happened to RC in either one of his late years with Honda or early years with Suzuki.

AMA Pro does sanction the series .

The Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship is a member of the Alliance of Action Sports, and is sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing. Managed by MX Sports Pro Racing, Inc., the events are hosted at America's premiere motocross venues by the National Promoters Group (NPG).

The title of this thread says "AMA", not "AMA Pro Racing". That's two completely different entities, as of the date that DMG bought all rights to AMA Pro Racing and all of its properties. The American Motorcyclist Association has nothing whatsoever to do with anything that says AMA Pro Racing on it... well except the event truck they rent from them for the Supercross series.

Ah I see. I thought AMA pro was a separate entity from the AMA even before that and wasn't thinking of the buyout .

Ok so what im gathering is no 250 four stroke bike that has been in impound at the AMA PRO RACING trailer after any race sx or mx has been torndown???

I thought I remember a few years back some one protesting Gavin Gracyks 450 Honda saying he was running a big bore kit in the nats.

The factory teams were a little puzzled because he kept pulling top 5 starts. He practically dared them to. No one ever protested though.

I think this might be the most overlooked problem in our sport and nobody is doing anything about it. When has a team ever been penalizied besides FUEL???

Are light bulbs going on all across the world right now????

I might be opening up a can of worms right now but its the reality! We all want better racing and to be able to afford to go racing!

A bit off topic,

But a friend of mine here in Tulsa used to go race about half of the Supermoto Series that TLD raced in... well, Mike had a HUGE cheater kit in his CRF450 motor, like a 520 or something insane, and he said the Troy Lee Designs guys like Wardy were just walking past him on the straightaways...

I hope when you say "Mike" what you really mean is a guy we'll call Mike for this story. Also when you say he's from Tulsa you really mean he's from California.

If not I'd be a wee bit pissed if I was Mike and you just threw me out on front street like that.

One of the things NASCAR does right is check the engines on the top five finishers after every race. It does not stop all cheating, but it sure helps. Love to see that in SX/MX.

Fact: If you don't have a cheater bike or take HGH you can't do well in pro moto, but most riders are Christians and since the Bible doesn't say shit about cheater bikes or HGH, it's all to the good Smile

I remember seeing the top 3 250's at Phoenix in either 99 or 2000 waiting to be torn down after the race.

I used to go to the stock car races at Buds Creek and just feet off of the track was an inspection garage where they pulled down the top finishers and inspected some things that were in the rules. Saw several guys get DQed too.

Our sport really has few rules that they could easily check. Other than CC's and fuel you can do pretty much what you want.

I know that in the past most of the 5th and back guys used oversized motors.

This is what im getting at. Why has our sport gone years without something like this in effect. If we want better racing between 40 riders its going to take something like this to happen. Its gone this long because everyone is getting away with it.

Wonder if it's an unwritten agreement between the principal MX teams not to protest one anothers engine's, like when they all had counter claim cheques to stop a privateer claiming a works bike!
