I wish, but no, a submission doesn't mean an automatic nomination. The only thing automatic about this process is me automatically reaching out to the higher ups to negotiate a higher rate since there is a formal paper trail of them acknowledging that I'm producing (potentially) award winning work for their project, haha.

Right?! I've always been a bit of an outsider in this business (I've yet to run into anyone else in my side of this business who got their start by filming their friends riding dirt bikes) so it's a really cool feeling to get that pat on the back. Plus, my mom – a rural as fuck cowboy – actually knows of this award show so it was rad to hear her so excited without her saying, "which one is that?"... even if it is just the potential of a nomination.
What for?
Post production work. It's a hard job to explain because it's a lot of jobs rolled into one but I like to describe it as, "I don't bake the cake but I make sure it looks (and tastes) as good as it can".

Nah, I wish though! Where the money comes in is being able to add the "emmy nomminated artist" (if I get the actual nomination) to my resume for future gigs. I know a lot of people say, "it's just an honor to get nominated", and I know that sounds something like someone who only gets second place says, but it really is. Winning awards in this industry is a strange thing because of all the moving pieces, and timing of projects, and political behind the scenes stuff (of which I've been nominated for other awards and won a few) but it really is an amazing feeling to know the people who are putting you up for an award are the same people who were in the trenches with you.

Is an Emmy like the Nobel, where you get an award for something you never did, but people wanna think you might?
I don't know much about the Nobel process so I can't speak to that but based on my experience in both the film and sport worlds I see a lot of overlap between winning an Emmy (or any other award in this business) and winning a championship. By which I mean at the end of the day – to an outsider – it might appear as if the person holding the trophy at the end of the season "is the winner" but the reality is it's a win for all the incredibly talented people who worked incredibly hard for an incredibly long period of time in hopes that your collective efforts achieve a better result than every other team in that championship.

It's a proposal, and would only apply to superannuation (401k) and only on superannuation balances above $3 million.
Superannuation in Australia is compulsory, employers currently contribute 11.5% of wages and salary to employees superannuation funds, contributions are taxed at 15%, which is lower than income tax rates.
Superannuation funds can be either independent licensed funds, or you can run your own self managed fund, the funds are not held by your employer or the government. People can move their superannuation from one fund to another, they are not locked into one fund. There is a government website that shows the performance and fees for each superannuation fund, this has weeded out some of the poorly performing superannuation funds.
The average person in Australia has $0.5 - $1 million in superannuation when they retire, very few people have more than $3 million, most of them run their own self managed funds, good for them, but they may be taxed.
It would not apply to investments outside superannuation, people directly investing in the share market or managed funds would not be taxed on unrealized gains.
Sounds like a slippery slope.
