Over four decades, Metallica has maintained its position as one of the most influential and successful bands in rock history. Their music has inspired countless artists and fans, and their financial success is reflected in a combined net worth of $1 billion as of 2022, according to Metal Shout.26 Jun 2024
I liked Metallica up until about 98/99… The album, Reload seemed like the end of an era for me. The song Fuel was especially annoying. WOAH. YEAH…
C’mon….. REALLY!?
I jumped on the Pantera bandwagon after hearing, Cowboys From Hell for the first time. A bit louder. A bit more in your face. Perfect for an angry teen in 1990.
Though Metallica is better known I would imagine, I’m leaning more towards Pantera if I’m playing one of the two on my radio.
Pantera was kind of an 80s glam metal band pre Anselmo . Check it out its pretty funny .Credit Metallica for never falling into that trap . Probably couldn't have pulled it off even if they wanted to lol . Anyway I really like Metallica's first 4 albums but I chose Megadeth .

I liked Metallica up to In Justice for All. Then they became a Top 40 Metal Band.
Load, Reload, Load in my pants.
Confederate Flag guitar = best guitar. Dimebag did all us Southerners proud. Metallica has too many good songs to hate on tho.
Dimebag and I both born on 8/20/66 . I didn't get the same talent on guitar though .
I ran into Shawn (former Mega Death drummer 04 - 2014) a couple years back at X-Mas party north of Atlanta. He had some pretty good touring stories and Dave stories from his time in the band. MD was always a pretty raw band - I liked their early stuff (first 3 albums). As far as Metallica goes I liked their first 5 albums Kill em all,Ride the lightning, master, garage days, and justice.
I enjoyed most of Metallica through ...and justice for all. That is actually my favorite album of theirs as well. It's tough between them and Megadeth for me. I think based on individual songs and riffs, Megadeth are probably tops. Also, as far as these days, Dirk is an awesome drummer. Pantera is an easy 3rd.
edit It's also criminal that no one really ever brings up Testament in these convos.
Cemetery Gates
That is all.
C'mon y'all - we know they're just fighting for 2nd place
Yeah, I negged you for that shit!
I deserved it 🤣🤣
Am I Evil?
PANTERA!!
I am man.
Pit Row
Somewhere, video evidence exists of PANTERA and METALLICA touring together and playing eachothers songs switching instruments.
Looks like they’re both touring together this year along with, Suicidal Tendencies.
What....no Danzig? Guess it's gonna be a dirty black summer.
Crash course in brain surgery!
Look at that, we agree on 1 thing at least.
Slayer fans are the most fanatical of anyone.
True story: back in the '90s I played in an alt-rock band. We were sort of a prog/space rock/punk hybrid. Think Primus welded to STP and Weezer. No business playing metal of any kind. Anyway, we had these two guys who came to a show of ours in our hometown, wherein we made the mistake of playing a cover of Enter Sandman by Metallica. That perked their ears up and they started calling for more metal, i.e., "Slayer!" All night long I heard "SLAYER!" getting called out from the back. As we didn't have any Slayer in our repertoire, we left them unsatisfied. 😒
For the rest of our existence as a band, those same two guys were at all our shows, calling for Slayer from the back of the crowd. 😆 I wanted to just jam out a version of Reign in Blood or something, just for fun, but we never got around to it. (We would have butchered it, but I don't think they would care!)
“Megadeth”…
Was a huge Metallica fan until the mellowed out. “Master” just lacks the raw intensity of their earlier efforts…
I voted Pantera. I can listen to all their albums front to back, no skips. Megadeth is great as well. Peace Sells and Rust in Peace are my favorite albums by them. Don't really care for Metallica. Always thought they were very average, but I do enjoy the And Justice For All album a lot.
I have to vote for Pantera.
Having met them in 1983 at the Six Flags Mall in Arlington (No longer there, was at corner of 180 & 360) in 1983 when they released the Metal Magic album, I've followed them ever since.
I will offer that the current touring group should go by another name. No Abbotts, No Pantera.
There's a cool vid on yt by dawesvideos 'Jeremy Lusk 1984-2009'
Metallica pre black album for me. Later Pantera was awesome too. I remember when One came out on video and came into mainstream. I was around 12, and it was such a great video unlike anything I had ever experienced. To this day I still think it’s one of the best art pieces ever created. Metallica and Pantera playing in Russia in 1992 (or so?) is one of the coolest live shows to watch.
