They arrive thinking their job is representing their constituents back home.
Then they see lobbyists cash literally being blown in through the A/C vents, and committee's holding all of the power.
Meaning anything they draft falls by the wayside.
Which is when the line between Republicans and Democrats begins to blur.
There are exceptions to the rule, but they're few and far between.

Your ability to get on any committee depends on your ability to bring in cash to your party.
Your political influence is all determined by your fund raising.
It is all about the money, and even those with good intentions going in to DC soon learn they have to play the game or be irrelevant and a 1 term politician.
Almost every piece of legislation is first drafted by a lobbyist group (at the behest of the company(s) or groups paying them), and then the lobbyists shop around to find the most influential congressional or senate candidate to "sponsor" the bill and try and gain support from the other members.
Even if it weren't about the money, it's a place that you can't get anything done if you don't participate how they play there. You have to go along to get along, and we know what going along there means.
And it has been proven that the contents are genuine, as they match the back up on the cloud.
People are going to jail.
As much as I would love to see accountability we all know not a thing will be done. Big accusations and names will be thrown around. The govt will never ever hold itself accountable. The moves all these assholes have made a hundred or more years to get us into $37,000,000,000,000 debt is unforgivable and quite frankly NONE of us are on the hook for it. The govt spent it they can fuck off. If we want accountability we will have to spill the blood and get it ourselves.
i think there are honest hard working politicians out there and then they start getting all the financial kick-backs and insider trading and pretty soon they are pushing for tampons in boys bathrooms and gender surgery for 6 year olds.

Sadly, no one's going to jail. Sending them to jail requires people who are guilty of corruption themselves in one form or another to actually send them to jail. Nobody wants to open their own closet of corruption skeletons. They'll talk a big story in public and then do nothing as they are afraid of their own accountability.
