New 2023 YZ450F

Nice! Did you change from stock or FCP mounts?

FCP mounts.

Really liking the new Hoosier HMX spec rear tire as well.

Nice!  What color rubber are you using on Luxon mounts?

Just left the track.  Was really rutted and chewed up bad coming into / out of corners.

This is where I'm noticing it the most.   Much easier on the hands.

I believe the yellow.   I would have to look again.   They were the medium ones.

Was worried about going straight to the softest ones.

Would love to see this with bike all reassembled. They all look like Aftermarket cannons. Have Noticed that 450 Star guys have different can lengths.

Anyone else running a slipper clutch? I got the idea from road racing and Ken Roczens RMZ450 video. Been running the 14/52, Hinson Slipper clutch, one of Keefer's 25 maps, FMF pipe, hydro clutch, twin Air power flow kit, and upped the idle slightly. This bike flows like no other bike Ive owned.

My 2024 KX450X and 2025 YZ250F have more engine braking than my 2024 YZ450, draw in the clutch a tiny bit and you can go flying into corners. Still not on the level of a 2t but close.

Really? Man, I noticed an immediate difference especially on clutch disengagement. While the difference was immediate. I'll agree with you it wasn't massive. I haven't had to swap my clutch plates yet after months of desert and track but I know its gonna be coming up soon. Are you running the hydro clutch? I know I was eating up plates faster with the cable clutch forsure.

I for sure notice the difference in the clutch pull when I pull it on while braking hard into a corner.  Maybe I don't notice it as much as I've been running a slipper for 10+ years so it was 'normal' feeling to me when I put it on the Yamaha.

Still running a cable clutch, however I've become much more anal about ensuring proper lever play.  Thus far I haven't had an issue with lever play causing clutch slippage and thus burning up plates faster.  Hydro clutch looks interesting but I really don't want to bother with the bleeding (maybe also because I've never had an MX bike with hydro...)

I've run both slippers and standards on road race bikes, never had a slipper on a dirt bike so to me I noticed it. Don't know if I wanna go back now. Lmao. I have a passionate dislike of cable clutches personally so I went hydro as soon as I could afford it and its been a great change for me at least, I'm also a fan of a heavier clutch pull.

The bleeding was initially difficult but if you bleed it from the slave cylinder vs the master cylinder and pre-fill the slave cylinder. It goes much faster.

Which is why it’s crazy to me that so many folks are so willing to spend time, effort, and money to make their bike work objectively worse. We need all the help we can get, dawg. Don’t make it harder on yourself

I'm still running the stock pipe also, but I have read where aftermarket pipes actually smooth out the power making it easier to control. Stock is hard to beat though as far as power.

I'm not doubting that there may be benefits to running an aftermarket pipe if you have something specific you're after, but cutting one down purely for aesthetics is wild to me when the bikes are so good stock.

I'm the weirdo outlier in this space though for sure. I'm 50. Vet B rider on my best days, And I weigh 180 lbs. It's like having a manufacturer developing a bike and spending millions on R&D and testing for me alone. No chance that these aftermarket companies are putting in the same effort when producing their shiny bits, and not all shiny bits work well together. Not everyone goes as slow/fast as I do, rides what I ride, or weighs what I weigh, so I get why folks want to tinker to find the sweet spot.

Im a tad heavier than you but i feel the same about my bike. Still mostly stock aside from creature comforts and even then i only did pegs and a wc lever. Im working my way down to make the stock suspension work a little better because i keep talking myself out of doing it lol.. ive been preoccupied lately with hunting for a Ford transit i want. I should probably ride. Its that time.

Finally! This will solve a lot of phantom issues with your YZs fellas, so grab one even if you haven't yet dealt with issues related to a kinked vent hose. Yamaha needs to take notes and make this happen stock ASAP

Yeah, I know people get grumpy when they spend a bunch of $ on sexy parts only to realize their bike performs worse than it did before, but I think it's pretty common in the moto world to want to throw money at stuff. It's a lot like Golf. No amount of swing trainers or hybrid clubs are gonna compensate for bad technique 🤷‍♂️

As for the suspension, I chased my tail quite a bit with clickers and fork height when I first got my '23 as I was trying to make the new bike as comfy as my '21. I finally ended up going back to a stock base setting for clickers and ended up at 3mm up for the forks and after a good 15 hours or so, things started to calm down and I adapted to the new chassis. It's a different bike and it requires different input and when I'm more intentional about it, I was rewarded with a better handling bike. That's what worked for me. I still make minor adjustments depending on where I'm riding, but I stay pretty close to a base setting otherwise.

Also, and I've shared this on here before, but if anyone is looking to calm the motor down a bit and make better use of that super tall 2nd gear, someone showed me a simple map a while ago that I've been using ever since on my last two bikes. I call it "Jay's Map" because some dude named Jay showed it to me lol, but I was blown away when I did. It made the new bike work in 2nd gear how the old gen bike worked in 3rd gear. Not exactly of course, but it got a lot closer for me. I attached a pic of it, but don't bother with trying to punch in all the numbers. It's basically a new map and you slide FI/IG all the way left/smooth to 1, and TC all the way to the right/Hard Pack/High, and then save it. I don't ride a lot of hard pack, but the map works if you're looking to chill that low to mid hit and run 2nd gear out more. Give it a shot 👍

I just saw a possible problem area and some have had issues. For XPR to make an elbow like that, they must have heard of something. I cut the nipple on my gas cap flush with the top and used a less flexible line and haven’t had any problems. You can see the line I used in this photo.

The vent was a concern for me because id always have a big kink. Didnt have any real issues come from it but i still cut the nipple down.
