Are you interested in a VitalMX Concept2 rowing competition? (UPDATED 7/8/10)

After seeing a couple topics pop-up here and there about them, and being a user myself, I thought it might be fun little deal… and maybe a little extra motivation to push harder when training.

--------

What you will need

Access to a C2 rower, a camera, Internet access, lots of water, and possibly a puke bucket.

Classes

Three ways to battle it out (2 age groups):
- 500 Meter
- 2000 Meter
- 5000 Meter
- +40 500 Meter
- +40 2000 Meter
- +40 5000 Meter

Timeline

This competition will last 8 weeks. This gives you time to get your fitness up to snuff, work on your times, post times, talk crap and see where everyone else is at. This will officially kickoff July 5th (the perfect time to start burning off those Fourth of July grilled mayonnaise balls), with your best Week 8 (Aug. 23-29) times due in by Monday August 30 at Midnight.

Each week is dedicated to 2 of 3 challenges. You must log at least one time for each of those particular distances during that week to show where you are at. Of course, you can still post whatever you want on VitalMX, too.

Week 1: 500, 2k
Week 2: 5k, 2k
Week 3: 5k, 500
Week 4: 500, 2k
Week 5: 5k, 2k
Week 6: 5k, 500
Week 7: 500, 2k
Week 8: FINALS - ALL (It is also mandatory that during the finals you paste photos of your monitor details here on VitalMX, as well)

Rules

You may only use final 500, 2k, and 5k times generated during the 8th week. I will post a secret word the final week, and it must be taped to you monitor when you take a picture, unless your monitor is on detailed view and shows the date. This ensures everyone puts in an effort through the whole competition and doesn’t quit, for example, after Week 4, and then posts their best times from that week on the final week.

Create a C2 Logbook and become a training partner

1) Jump onto the Concept2 logbook and make a profile. Its really quick.
2) Go to your Profile. In the descriptions you will find your Ranking ID #. Post it here.
3) After you have someones Ranking ID # go to the bottom of your Profile and you can then enter that persons number is as a Training Partner (or accept requests). If we all do this, we will be able to see everyones logs as they go along.

Prizes

1) Greg at Concept2 will hook-up the winners with some C2 swag.
2) Robb Beams of MotoEndurance.net is giving everyone a free training guide for anyone in the challenge. Go to this link http://www.concept2.com/...r_sports/default.asp and click on the box where it says MotoE rider resources. That will take you to Robb’s site and in the comments write VitalMX. He is also going to give out a free 3 month racing batch program to anyone who finishes the challenge

There could be more to come, as well.
Some other things you can expect though are:
- Glory of being able to say you’re not just a fat lazy guy that likes to talk about moto on VitalMX
- Ability to ride longer and faster motos when you hit the track
- A trimmer, happier, you
- Lots of chicks!!! (or guys…or both)

So what do you say? Who’s in?!
they are both in my age group so I vote with you. I will just have to shoot for a podium spot.
Last night 60minutes at 2:04
today 60 minutes at 2:10
this challenge started on 6-28 and since then I have logged 325,000 meters
my best times so far
500 1:38
2000 7:11
500018:58
hopefully they will come down this week.

Hey guys it's FINALS WEEK! You have until Sunday night to try and bust out your best 500M, 2000M, and 5000M times.

Photos will be required when posting your top times this week. Be sure to display your times in detail mode on your monitor, so date is viewable (if you are unable to do this, tape a small paper to your monitor that reads "VitalMX/C2 2010")

Try to keep ALL YOUR TIMES IN ONE POST this week. If you row a new, or faster time, simply go back and edit your first post from this week. This will make it easier when results are being tabulated. Then post "new time" in a new post to bump the topic if you would like.

Below you will see the post I will be editing for my times through the week.

GOOD LUCK!!

Getting plated and pinned tomorrow! I cross rutted off a small tabletop and just ragdolled into the dirt. Bikes all busted up as well! As i laid in the dirt trying to get my wind back I could see fluid pouring out of the radiator. So awesome!

as with Jason Ward. My times I posted (page 3 and maybe 4 or 5) will have to suffice. I'm still not healthy and haven't been doing anything strenuous.

I'd hope we can do this all again come fall or winter.

Greg, I'll be calling you soon about a rower.

Posted my first time of the week above.

Beat some previous times, but I'm a little bummed on it just for the fact my butt slipped off the seat quick with about 90M left...kinda jacked with me a little.

I think this challenge was awesome and a big thanks to Ryan (RCC104) I want to send everyone a Concept2 T-shirt but I need everyone to send me there size and address. Also everyone should check out this link to our "challenges calendar" there are some great ones coming up and some we can do as a team. http://www.concept2.com/us/motivation/challenges/calendar.asp also if some of you guys are up for it that “Pete’s Plan” 14 week training program is a good one for moto and it is only 3 days a week of rowing so it does not kill the real worlds schedule. Anyone can email me directly at gregh@concept2.com if they have questions or idea’s. Vermont’s moto season is already over and I made it through with only a finger injury in my last moto. Time to work on my play track and do some woods riding. - Greg

One of the big problem with McDonalds is that it might take 12 minutes to eat but in 5 minutes you are running to the bathroom! That stuff works better than elax! I have always wondered how people get so fat eating it when it is only in your body for such a short time!

I got to say I'm a little bummed right now. I haven't had much time this week to put down my times. Not sure I'll be able to by Sunday either. Riding after work today, Southwick tomorrow, then racing sunday. Might just have to put some rows in for pride early next week.

We'll definitely have to try another little competition during the off season this winter though.

Maybe make it a little shorter and easier to be involved. Something like... Week 1: Best 500M, Week 2: Best 2000M, Week 3: Best 5000M.....

8/27/2010 8:35am
Ryan, it was awesome and thanks for heading it up. We can definatly do another challenge and try and get more guys and gals. Once the snow flys there will be more riders training. as always if anyone has questions on training or rowing call me. - Greg

Ended up getting back from Southwick late last night, so no time to get my bike ready for racing today. This means I still might be able to fit in a 2000M and 5000M today!

Just bettered my 2000M this morning with 7:00.1 (see picture above).

Ultimately no times submitted for me this go around. I'm bummed! In the last month my Father had a heart attack and surgery then two weeks later my Grandma(his Mom) had a massive heart attack and died. Have been spending a lot of time between AZ and CA dealing with life. Completely lost my access to a rower as well.

I'm in for the next one for sure........

I'm going to have to stand on my previous best times also. I started out this past week with a 60 mi. bicycle ride and my 49 yr. old legs just haven't recovered! I tried to get some times recorded this week but my times were off from previous attempts.

Thanks for putting this challenge together RCC104. I like your idea of making it shorter with one distance per week for the next one. I apologize in advance if my pictures show up too large when I hit SUBMIT. This is the first time I have ever tried to post pictures so I got my daughter to help but she couldn't stay up to straighten this out because she has school tomorrow. Maybe it can be corrected with an edit? Maybe somebody can help an old computer illiterate man out!

Just as I suspected, I screwed it up! Sorry! I'll post my times and try to correct the pictures tomorrow if that's okay.

500: 1:36.2 on 8/18/2010

2000: 7:29.6 on 7/14/2010

5000: 19:58.6 on 8/16/2010

If this disqualifies me I understand. I still had fun though!

No worries. This all kind of fell apart towards the end here unfortunately. When we do this again I have some ideas on making it more organized and hopefully easier to be involved. Hope everyone that was in it this time around had fun getting into the habit of working out at least!

Since many didn't post this week, or were unable to row, tomorrow I'll go through previous times that were posted with photos, and they can be used for final times .
