FTE and i were talking about this in the James thread. This was one of the first vids that we got to see RC on a 450 after being sidelined from the 04 SX series with his knee injury. That summer he went on to go 24-0 and the rest was history. Honda did not renew his contract and he went to Suz for the 05 season.
Anyway...he was ridiculously scary fast on that 450.

His damn corner speed was ridiculous! Damn!
The reports were that if you translated the 05 Suzuki results to the Honda offer, he would have made as much or more, but that Honda's negotiating stance was off-putting and RD, still smarting probably from what he went through with Travis, was more than happy to respect RC.
It's pretty easy to appreciate RC for what we got on the track, but I was always struck by his insistance after he was reborn hard moving out of the 125's that having a program and sticking to it and choosing to have a circle of support that buys into that program and doesn't distract from it were critical to his success. A perfect storm of talent, determination and focused support. Why more don't emulate that is a mystery; probably immaturity matched with early success and lack of resources. Dungey seems to have gotten it.
Imagine RC on a Factory Honda CR 360R Two Stroke? Brrrrraaapppppp!

I remember everyone doubting the hell out of him when he went to Suzuki.
Never underestimate the G.O.A.T.!
Here's a really awesome interview with him:
