Yes. When Will was still a manager for them, he raced the All Star race at the Nationals and he had a Star prepped 125. His and RV's were so badass in those races. I remember seeing the Star bike at High Point. I have pics of it somewhere, from my old phone.
They made one for Ty Masterpool when he moved off 80s
Was able to find a pic of both (online). I never realized Ty's was a Star bike, for some reason. Very cool. They need to bring back that 125 All Star Race, btw. That was fun to watch.
Thanks for these. I wonder what they could do with the new model of YZ125s as well 🤔

I watched some of the Pulp show with Mitch Payton, somewhat recently. They briefly talked about The RV pipe / build on his 18-19 YZ125. I would have to go back and listen again to say for sure but from what I remember, Mitch was having a hard time getting the new motor to beat to old one, mod for mod. And then finally once the starting tuning with the ignition, they were finally able to get the new engine to slightly out-perform the old one. I'm not sure if it would be a big difference or not but still pretty cool. I found that interesting though.
I think the YZs are probably still out-gunned compared to the built, carbed KTMs, in peak power, but the advantage that they do seem to have is just the power profile is so good and so easy to ride. It's just always singing. I also remember an MXA article about soem of the modded 125s for that Allstar race. They talked about the built KTM/Huskys for the pros having insane peak hp but as they were built up, they became very demanding to ride. Granted, it was a pro riding it but still. Obviously the YZs still did well in those races though.
A 6-7 Round 125 All Star class at the nationals that pays points would be sooooooo sick.
GOD BLESS 'EM
On board on that Husky and you can hear how hard it is to keep it on the pipe... Clutch, clutch, clutch and finally catch.
But hey, Carson Brown on a 1980 YZ125 would cover those guys anyways.
One of Ty’s YZ’s popped up for sale in Tallahassee a few years ago, I went to look at it with a friend of mine while he was in school up there. It was hammered dog shit and the kid who had it didn’t know hardly anything about the bike. It was definitely the real deal as it had the billet Star Racing Ignition cover and the FMF expansion chamber was all cut and rewelded in a few spots. Poor thing sounded like it was going to scatter its guts out when the kid started it.
Lol sounds like a bitter-sweet experience. Would be cool to see the bike up close but a bummer that it was all ratty. Would've been incredible to scoop up, if everything worked out though.
Idk who was in charge or suggested that MxSports hold these races but we need them back. I got to go to Washougal in 2017 and didn't even know they were doing the dream race (this year was their test run, I believe they made the 125 series a triple crown). I was standing on HP hill and all of a sudden there's a fire by the starting line? Two seconds later I hear General Lee's dixie horn playing and 40 125's taking off.... One of my fondest memories🥲 Cool to see T. Villopoto take second behind Hot Sauce.
Agreed. We need 125 races at the nationals! Just the sound alone is worth it.
I built a replica 250 two stroke of the 2022 Redbud MXoN Star Yamaha!
I did get to see a 125 they built back in 2018 for the Ironman National. I think it was raced by Ty Masterpool. It was a nasty mudder that weekend and I’m not sure if they had the 125s race or not but the track was destroyed.

Make it another way to get your pro license. Make it a true feeder series.
Yes, they should bring back the 125 All Star races. I enjoyed those.
I did a few pulls up and down the road on it and I really don’t think the motor was as built as people think it was. It definitely had a little more get up than a stock YZ, but marginal at best. I think the real secret in the motor was how linear it was and not peak HP. Regardless, the kid wanted like $1500 over what a stock YZ was in that condition.
Pingree goes over the whole Star bike in this video
Pit Row
This is exactly what I needed. Gonna go to the bathroom for a little while and watch this video.
Every time I see your bike I have to stop and admire. It’s so sick!
Thanks man, I appreciate it! I’ve been hoarding parts since late last fall to make some good improvements on it. Going to do a build thread on here as I go. Goal is to try get it under the Star Yamaha rig at Redbud or Ironman this year
I often think about building a 125 for old times sake but I also realize my weight at 240 and lazy lugging riding style won’t get me far. 😂
Would be cool if some of the teams could do a build off like the Pasha 150’s.
Many of the current teams have built 125’s trough out the years for media purposes more or less so it would be some fun if a media chanel could host some what of a shootout or something in the line of that.
PC has the 125 that Tedesco or/and RC rode in modern times, Club MX/coty shock did a yz125 last year? JGR had a rm125 that Patrick Evan’s rode, the KTM 150’s for RBSR etc.
Will Hahn raced it at Hangtown a Ktm kid won his Hot Mom was extremely excited . DV 2nd, Hahn a Close 3rd. Ty was injured but raced at Budds creek . He must hv been injured yet because he Really didn’t look good. All the big names that raced The all Star race said the fans where more excited than when they raced the nationals & won. It’s a bummer the races r gone. U can still race amateur days with near full gates. . Millville & Red Bud hv 2 days of amateur racing . I can race both on 2 diff months, Millville much more. But Wi. Has a Extremely competitive 125 class some riders r living at training camps rt now getting ready . And do training camp type of stuff during the season but they race every weekend. Probably the fastest 125 state if not it’s in the top 3 for sure.
I was in the infield at Lorettas when Ty was on his 125, and I can honestly say that the bike sounded better than any 125 I've ever heard at an amateur national. It didn't just scream, it barked out of turns, especially when he had a second of airtime and he would crack the throttle, many folks around would look at each other and say "listen to that thing!!!!". Ty made that bike sound fantastic all week.
It's not like Star has a bunch of experience with 2 strokes. I'd bet you could take that same YZ and hand it to Mitch and he'd make it way better than Star would.
I’d be willing to bet money that motor wasn’t grinded on at Star.
Yeah I mean, I would've probably rather had RV's 2018 if I had my choice. I don't think any Star 125 is going to have that same allure or magic that a 250F would have. But there is also more limitations of what can be done to the 125. Still seeing any type of Factory effort towards a 2stroke is always cool.
