Got to throw my leg over just about everything Beta offers yesterday at a dealer demo day. The bikes are impressive and really made me smile how well they corner.
The 390RR race edition was something else. Felt light like a 250f and you could rev it or lug it. Didn’t wear me out like a 450 typically does. It made me really curious about converting it to a moto only bike. I’m a track guy and trails aren’t necessarily my thing. Any thoughts or experience with this?

I have been on a 390, 430 and the 480 Beta, defiantly the 390 is the best all around bike. Beta needs to make a 390 RX model.
I mean, get the suspension revalved if you feel like its too soft and ride it on a moto track is all you need to do.
Put a number plate on the front instead of the headlight and take the tail light mount off if you want.
Big difference between the 390 and 430? Did not get to ride the 430 and was wishing I could of to compare against the 390.
Josh Strang has actually been racing the 480 at the first few GNCC rounds which I thought was different.

Short stroke vs long stroke motors. 350/430 have short stroke and 390/480 long stroke if memory serves.
I would love to test some of those Betas. I wish there were more opportunities to test ride dirt bikes.
Just picked up a Beta 500 RR-S. All I can say is that I’m extremely impressed.
Send Beta a message telling them just that. I've been telling them that as a dealer for awhile now. They for sure need RC versions like the KTM XC-F's.
390 is a stroked 350. The 430, 450 and 480/500 all have the same crank w 3 different piston sizes. 95/97 and 100MM. The 390 has a longer stroke crank than all of them. So the 430 actually feels revvier than the 390.
They need a RC version wo lights and has the racing wiring harness.
FWIW my Beta 450 was the best all around handling bike I ever owned.
Something about those steel frames.
Built my brother a 2024 Beta 390 rr Race Edition. I had a 2021 Beta 430 rr Race Edition. Like both bikes, but riding the 390 just seemed like you were going faster. The 390 is a all around great bike. Fun on the trails, fun on a track. Might not be a horse power king, but it works.
I saw your 430 build back in the Vital archives and have always loved it. This is honestly the post I was waiting for…390 seems like a winner. That 24 build looks incredible. What front plate did you use and did you remove the tachometer?
450 RX OEM number plate. Removed Speedo set up and installed the race wire loom. Removing headlight, Speedo and all the wires, saves about 4 pounds.
300 almost completed.
How does the long stroke 390 compare to the shorter stroke 350 in terms of engine feel? Does the 390 rev slower? Lug better?
I decided a 350 will be my next bike, and I was pretty set on the Husky….but I’ve always like betas, and it sounds like they are great bikes…so I’m intrigued by them…
Always wanted to ride the 200rr, would love a 200cc mx 2 stroke rev like a 125 with hp numbers like a 250 would be killer... one can dream
I rode a KTM 350 and it feels fast, revs pretty fast compared to the 390. I have not been on a Beta 350, so I can’t compare the two. But the 390 definitely has good lug-ability. As stock (390) maybe not a pro’s bike, but a dam great vet bike and all around great play bike.

Just did a Beta demo day last weekend. I personally have a new 300 X-Pro but my son and I wanted to check out the rest of the line. Got to ride the 2-strokes and a few of the 4-strokes. The 390 is a really fun bike and is on the soft side. Both power delivery and suspension. You can ride that bike all day. Perfect bike for dual sports. Power is a bit deceiving though. I rode it after being on the 450 mxer for 35 minutes. The 450 is a beast and cannot be ridden slow at all. Flameout! The 390 feels slower than what it is. My kid was in front of me on the 390 while I was on the 450 on a short open mx section and I had to push pretty hard to real him in. Impressive for a trail-based bike. We wanted to ride the 480 but some numb nuts crashed it, set it on fire, and burned it to the ground. Almost taking the entire woods section along with it. I feel so bad for the guys putting on the demo. Unfortunately, they did not have the 430 there.

I rode a 25 Husky 350 FX (the cross country race version...the husky version of the KTM XC-f models...whatever they call it)...and loved it! It felt light, it felt fast (it revved quickly), and revved for ever...i guess my question is if the longer stroke on the 390 takes away some of that "racey" feeling (fast revving, and rev to the moon)?
I rode a Sherco 300 four stroke...and it revved so slow that I just didn't like it...if just felt slow...it was awesome in tighter terrain...but I kind of like a faster revving bike...
I do love 450's...and being able to ride a gear (or two) high and just letting all that torque do its thing low in the RPM range...so I like the thought of a 390 that has a bit more low end "luggability"...but I don't want to give up that fast revving and high revving feeling of a bike.
If that makes sense?
You can't compare the FX350 to a Beta 390. I have a FX350 and there is no comparison. The FX is a 350 mx bike with a large gas tank, 18" rear wheel, and a wide ratio tranny. That bike rips! The Beta is more woods focused and will lug in technical stuff. It isn't a 2-stroke, but it is good. The FX will flame out and overheat in conditions where the Beta will shine. Believe me, I've lived that nightmare. I use my FX for mx and GPs. Beta 300 X-Pro for the tight snot we have here in eastern PA.
Yea the 390 was interesting when it came to flameout because there was none! I did some laps on a rutted turn track and came through some really tight deep corners in 2nd and it just would not stall out.
Just finished the 300
Show off 😛 Incredible bikes man.
WOW!!
Are those A-kit forks and shock?
Did you consider a 300RX, and if so what made you choose the 300RR?
Who did your graphics? They look great. Not a lot of options for the betas yet. Ive been trying to find a decent looking kit like yours for my 200 for a while.
I'm pretty sure that is a 2022 300RR. His stuff always looks GOOD.
I'm jealous...multiple bikes is honestly the only "right" set up there is...looking for a single "do everything" bike is a constant compromise...
I've been riding Yamaha 450's for years (on 450FX's since about 2018) and I really like them...I've found that 2nd gear on those is almost cheating in technical stuff (for anyone that is half decent with a clutch)...but I'm just getting to old for 450's these days, and I'm looking for something lighter-but ideally not giving up anything in terms of ridability.
I'm a desert racer (Vet A class) and single track guy...and finding a bike that does both well is, like I said, a constant compromise. Great single track bikes aren't great in the desert, and great desert bikes aren't great at single track.
Is a 390 the best compromise? That Husky 350 I rode sure seemed like it could have been...
Not A-Kit forks. Order stock shock from Beta 2025 model, no more Sachs. Forks have MXlab fork skins on them, they look factory. Pain in the ass tho, trying to get the forks off after installing the wrap is stupid. The suspension set-up is with Schmidt's performance. He has done my bikes for years and always right. I purchased this 2021 1/2 for a green sticker thing, in which California has chit the bed again. Love the 300 RX, but the 25's are now 5 speeds and I wanted a play bike, not a 2-stroke race bike.
