Don't want to drag this thread back into the gutter, but I've heard about 10 "hard R" references at work in the past 30 minutes complaining about why they aren't firing someone who clocked in 1 minute last this morning (after they clocked in 5 minutes late yesterday.) I'm not sure not talking about it is gonna make it go away. Just had to vent.

It's a word!   It can't hurt you unless you want it to.

Retard is medical terminology.

Since you're playing the game, I think "Drag this thread back into the gutter" is offensive to homeless people.  Sorry, I mean People that are Domestically Challenged.

I think the more we talk about racial division, the more it grows. Let's just let men be men and women be women and quit talking about it.

I think Supercross celebrating Black History Month is rather silly so I must be racist, then again I was on the track when Mookie won and got literal goose bumps on my arms. Maybe I'm not a racist after all, maybe I'm a guy that hates separating people into groups. As far as I'm concerned there is only 2 races, people who moto and people who don't moto.

Okay. What, in your opinion, makes recognizing the black people involved in SMX silly?

What part of ‘Let the thread die’ do you not understand? Folks like you are part of the problem.

It's silly because it is rhetoric that undermines the message it endorses.

That’s a fair opinion, but I don’t agree with it. Still, “silly?”  There were only 2 sentences in that IG post by Feld. For those that missed it, here it is again:

“Taking a moment to reflect on the incredible contributions of the Black athletes, technicians, hosts, fans, industry leaders, and countless other roles who have helped shape the world of motorsports and have made a lasting impact on SuperMotocross. Their passion and dedication continue to inspire generations.”

Which part is rhetorical? What is it both endorsing and undermining? What is silly about this, in your mind? I really want to know.

Because it's unneeded and divisive to separate and categorize human beings.

On the surface it sounds like a great idea to bring to light the achievements of black people in our sport, the reality of it is that it just keeps the subject of race going. Is Mookie a black racer or is he a badass SX racer. Myself, I don't need to identify him by color. He is a badass SX racer who comes from a family that I consider moto royalty. I have a dream where one day we will not judge a racer by the color of their skin but if they can hit stadium whoops better than anyone else on earth,

It is just a word, but it's the other words that surround it and the actions that I have more of a problem with. Honestly a little shocked I'm getting so much pushback on this.

To the "Just don't talk about it and it goes away" crowd, I'm just telling you what I'm seeing happen in front my own eyes today as I sit and contribute nothing to the conversation. Why is me telling you about people being racist making them be more racist, and how will me not telling anyone about it make it stop happening?

I confess that I will never understand those of you who profess that ignoring reality will somehow change it. And I refuse to give credit to anyone who will misquote historical figures just to be cute.

“Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it” - Winston Churchill. There are some things here we should work together to avoid repeating. But first we need to understand the history, not seek to forget it.

For the people that think Feld shouldn't post this, what's your take on Deegan helmet design last week? By your standards, it was as bad as this post...

Appreciate you clarifying the actual Feld communication.

Do black people have the same Ability and Opportunity as other skin colors in SMX?
If yes, then the Feld statement is Pandering, trying to cash in on people that see the world as divisive, which at the same time reinforces their beliefs, which undermines the intended purpose of overcoming racism.

If black people do not have the same ability and opportunity in SMX, then referring to a token few that have been invited to the club is like a corporations way of saying "I'm not racist, I have black friends". College people call this Reverse Racism, and their books say reverse racism is racism.

Both scenarios undermine the message of fairness in sport and come across as silly.  Especially silly in the context of an extremely barrier free professional sport, literally anyone (with enough money) could fund a team or enter the event as a rider at the next round.

How would Changing the meaning of words, or the word's public perception, stop people from being assholes and bullies?

Retards and Black people are different by the way, not sure why you're lumping them together?

Agreed.   Also, the word has lost it's meaning because it's attached to EVERYTHING these days.   Unfortunately, there will always be racism in the world.  (against every race).     All the pandering and virtue signaling isn't going to change that.

Teach your own kids what is right and wrong... that's where change will come from.

Was it another DNGR?  Pretty sure that's a slur, so I can't look it up while I'm at work.

Because you and not hillbilly aren’t after actual answers. You want to continue stirring the pot rather than realize it’s a fucking dead horse. People of your ilk seem to thrive on finding something associated with race where it simply does not apply.

Why do certain groups have to get so butt hurt by other groups being recognized or commended? This really shouldn't be divisive for any mature adult, yet some people act like acknowledging other groups somehow diminishes their group. This isn't a fight for the last piece of pizza, it's fine to say "okay, cool," maybe learn something, and then move on with your life.

I think some people see the absurdity of a performative gesture that doesn't help with the advertised goal, while others buy into the gesture hook, line, and sinker.  Is "butt hurt" a gay slur?
