Here is a link to a petition started to get the AMA to change their rule to allow 144cc 2-stroke to race in the 250 class and 300cc 2-stroke to race in the 450 class.

I can tell ya I have a hell of alot of fun on mine.

Dirt Rider actually had a good line on riding a two stroke...

I'm summarizing, but they said something like: "riding a two stroke, you feel fast even if you aren't going fast"

For the average Joe who rides, I think that's part of the appeal. Harnessing the instant power of a two stroke, if even momentary, is exhilarating. I'm amazed that the big four don't capitalize on that alone.

I got a call back (message) from Al Ludington yesterday, who said that he wouldn't be able to look at it completely for about a week since the racing season is at hand. He mentioned that he had passed it along to Jeff Canfield (sp?) on the motocross side and stated that it wasn't out of the realm of being able to do, but that he needed to discuss it further. I am getting back with him Monday.

What's the "T" stand for?

Maybe a (dreaming) good work around is to have a really stringent sound limit. Making a four stroke meet a tougher sound limit may bring some parity with the two stroke and do us all a favor in the meantime.

But aside from that, the pros don't seem to be objecting to the power of the 450's, and what's stopping anyone below the pro level from riding and racing two strokes? We're really talking about two pretty distinct areas of racing.
in spanish 2 Tiempos
4 Tiempos

in italian 2 tempi
4 tempi

in french 2 temps
4 temps

so if you buy spanish, italian or french oils it might have the T as the initial of any of the words stated above.

The bikes have gotten way too fast in recent years and making the two strokes as fast is not neccessarily the easiest solution.

Instead choke the fourstrokes to slow them down to the two strokes speed.

I think the simplest thing to do would be to limit exhaust pipe size ID on the fourstrokes and/or pass strict sound limits with realistic testing procedures that can be done in the field without being affected by tempatures, humidty, etc, and with the tests done up to maximum throttle.

Also, make exceeding the sound limit a protestable offense with a protest fee, part of which goes to cover the cost of doing the tests.
Like this solution better. Maybe 125 v. 200, 250 v. 350. Though the thought of being able to buy a 350 two stroke makes me drool. More than usual anyway.

I think it comes from German "Takt" meaning cycle.

Glad Im not the only idiot going broke doing this sport with my 2 sons. We love the 4 strokes. We just can't afford them. After doing this sport for 30 years and my kids the past 10 years, I can see the end in sight. 1 maybe 2 years tops, then we are out.
We need $3500 125's and $4500 250's. Now. Not in 3 years!

We're getting close to 850 signatures. While this may not seem like too many, this IMO is an incredible feat. We have close to 850 signatures in less than 5 days1 I am having a meeting with Al Ludington next week that will tell us where we're at.

I signed it .............................though I think it should be equal displacement.

I think it is wrong to let the OEM's have any input on what rules should be allowed or not. If the AMA/MXSpunks goobers had any integrity , they would have addressed this years ago.

I can't remember the last time a 2 stroke made the show at an AMA Pro event, a 5 year old could see the rule is flawed and work to correct it.

It is really not as difficult as everyone seems to think.

I signed it with a disclaimer attached. Still doesn't make for a fair displacement advantage as I see it.

Why don't we make it 500cc 2 stroke against 250cc 4 $troke for a couple years just to even things up. Then lets hear all the 4 chokers go all Benedict Arnold on their beloved 4 strokes and start talking about "how much better 2 strokes are"!!!

Oh, he works (or worked) for DMG. At least they're talking to the right group, unlike the petition itself which is directed to The AMA. Canfield would be a good entry point into the group too, since during the nationals he's contracted by DMG/AMA Pro too and is not an AMA official.
