I know he has had another injury, but do you think BT's name should be included in the list of names looking for factory rides? I certainly think it should, but I have heard no one really bring him up.

Yes, Townley is a top 5 guy. Townley def. deserves a factory ride. Atleast for outdoors.

BT is a great rider. I love the battles that he and RV had on 250s. It was epic racing bar to bar in a time of run away wins. Unfortunately he is having a Hepler like go at it.

Yeah speed wise its pretty close between him and Grant. He has no consistency with starts, putting two motos together, and staying off the ground. I hope he gets a ride though.Shouldnt have a problem getting a deal like he's already got.I think it's a victory for him if he finishes the summer without any drastic injuries so he can get in a solid off-season of riding. If he had been riding the past two years, no telling how fast he could be. Eventually he's gonna have to ride supercross again if he wants that factory ride back

Now there's a rider for a JGR or GEICO 450 bike. If Grant vacates his YZ450F, if I'm Coy, I'd have to talk to Ben.......ditto for LaRacco at GEICO.
BT is a fast, strong rider. And if he can keep it together(and off the ground), he'll be a major threat every weekend.
How's KDub and BT101 sound for 450 teammates?? :-)

The thing is most teams want a sx/mx rider. Not mx only.

Why would a company want to hire a rider that can't stay healthy enough to finish a series.

Think about Ben's history here over the last 3 years and what you wrote above.

This is Bens biggest question mark, I agree.

You hope he gets a ride? What is the matter with the one he currently has? If you hope something changes you must think something is wrong with the team he is on now. I am looking for the what. The TLD squad has put together a pretty impressive season so far and deserves a rider of his caliber.

And to the others suggesting a ride with JGR or Geico, what is wrong with the current ride he has? He has openly admitted to being more than happy with the team he is with from what I have seen.

As for what I for-see, only time will tell. Dude has an amazing amount of heart and an incredible work ethic. Very good with the fans as well! I hope a championship is in the future.

Ben Townley is blistering fast but if he doesn't keep it on two wheels he is useless for your team. In the Grand Prix he was was consistence on the KTM 450cc maybe he need to try to get back on the KTM because that is a brand where he won 4 - 450cc Grand Prix's with!

But I hope to see him one of these days back one top of the podium because it is a great guy!

PS: Maybe he want it all to fast? He is back after two years doing no races? Then you need to give your self some time to get on the same level as Dungey and others because those riders did race and learn the past two years.

Guess I just worded that wrong. Yes the ride he has now is perfect. I doubt there is some huge gap between his bike and a Red Bul Honda. He needs an extension with TLD if he doesn't have one. Better?

I'm not convinced he is done yet but if that is the case I gotta go with the GP's as well.

It is a good fit for a guy like Ben that wants to run outdoors.

In Europe there was a rumor that linked him on Yamaha Rinaldi because that team would go to 3riders in each category ...

But you can't always believe rumors and Ben Townley would know best what will happen with his future :-D

We are currently working on Ben's contract to stay with TLD for another year. He wants to come back and we would love to have him. His crash from Washougal left him with a couple superficial injuries but he'll be riding before the end of the week. He's fine.
Not sure what is considered a consistent start... I don't think Ben has been outside of the top ten on a start yet this year and he typically comes around on lap one inside the top five. Aside from some small, silly tip-overs Ben is having a phenominal summer. He had worked his way to third in the points before last Saturday and only six points behind Short. Is that not consistent? Yes, it was a bummer that he couldn't race last weekend but he made a smart decision to sit out rather than push the issue and potentially make his injuries worse. I hope Ben decides to stay and pursue his dream here in the States and you all should too. We need more guys like him in our sport.

Remember, he fits the TLD program perfectly... we do 250SX on the west and all the nationals. This way he can spend time at home in New Zealand during their summer and join us for the 450 nationals here.

Would love to see Cairoli Nagl and BT in the same KTM GP team next ... that would be awesome! He would probably make more money racing GPs next year for a factory team. But he has unfinished goals in the US

he has proved the speed is no problem to win in the US it's just little crashes...You guys havn't seen the best of him on a 450 yet. flashes of speed but when he does it consistently not too many will run his pace and he knows it and that's why I think he will want the 450 mx title before going for the MX1 World title.

I watched him in 2005 battle with Everts and run similar to RC if you can do that you always the ability to do it again. I believe he is a better 450 rider than a 250f rider and he was as good as RV in 2007 on that...

Ben adds a lot here, and is one of the coolest guys to chat with. I'd love to see him hang out here some more.

Bens best days were on KTM's. Didn't he get his US ride by being the only rider to keep RC in his sights at the MXDN?
