Did McGrath have it easier than Jett is going to?
The numbers say yes..
1993 McGrath’s Rookie premier class season
Up against 1 previous champion, Jeff Stanton with three championships to his name( 1989, 1990 & 1992)
1994- Faced 1 previous champion (Stanton)
1995- Faced 1 previous champion (Stanton)
1996- up against NO previous champions
1997- up against NO previous champions
1998 - Faced 1 prev. champion (Emig ‘96)
1999- Faced 1 prev. champion (Emig ‘96)
2000- up against NO previous champions
2001- up against NO previous champions
*This marked the last win of Jeremy’s career. (January 20th 2001)
Over 9 seasons in which he got race wins, he faced a previous champion in five of those.
Compared to Jett:
2024 Jett’s rookie premier class season.
Up against four previous premier class champions with 6 championships to their names:
Tomac (20, 22)
Sexton (23)
Webb (19,21)
Anderson (18)
2025- Faced four previous premier class champions
2026- Will likely face 3 previous premier class champions (if Tomac quits) (others quitting hasn’t been discussed)
So far, in three seasons in which he scored wins, he’s faced four champions with 6 championships between them in each of them.
The sport has changed a lot since the days of MC's reign. One could write a novel on the changes.... Bikes,Tracks,Training,Progression ect...
Very hard to compare just with stats.
Oh for fucks sake make it stop....
McGrath dominated in a way never seen before or since. 72 wins in sx is incredible, and with Jett out this season, it'll be even more difficult for him to reach that number, especially with some of the young guns that are going to be moving to the class in the next few years.
Can’t stop fact Dom..

Yes, he did dominate.
Didn’t have a lot of competition, did he..?
Or more stupid McGrath Vs Jett threads. Good Job
LaRocco , Emig , Stanton, Windham , Lusk , Henry . Outside of Emig and Stanton none of those guys won a title but you could say that was because of McGrath and they were all race winners . I do think Jett faces a more formidable field but to say MC didn't have a lot of competition is yet another of your many terrible takes .
What IS a terrible take is thinking that there were no other winners because McGrath won them all!
The difference is, Jett entered the class facing the champions of the previous 7 years.
For this to be equal, McGrath would’ve needed to enter the class and face Stanton, Bayle, Ricky Johnson and Jeff Ward.
But all but one of them had retired.
You ever think it might be hard to race a previous Champion when you're the champion every year LOL! He was that good!
there are more races now i believe.
Well hell..... Jett for 144 wins......... You heard it here first.
Kinda what I was getting at but he didn't quite understand .
Does Ricky Carmichael ring any bells? Because McGrath kicked his ass in 1999 and 2000. He's the only person to EVER beat RC for a premier class title
Jeff Stanton is one of the greatest riders ever and McGrath dethroned him as a rookie.
He dominated Emig, Bradshaw, Windham, Lusk, LaRocco, Kiedrowski, Henry, Vuillemin, Ward, Pichon, etc. There's a long list of great riders that got their shit kicked in every week by MC. Hard for anyone else to win championships when MC was that much better than everyone.
in reality, both his win rate and his win total will end up lower. how the increased competition (measured in # of past champions on the gate) offsets that makes for good bench racing.
like F1 though, you cant compare max verstappen to fangio bc fangio didnt race 23 times a year. even tho max has/will have MORE wins, it;s STILL hard to make a case hes clearly a better driver.
MC is a bad dude, but you could make the argument his bmx background gave him a leg up on supercross. most of those guys are mx guys. now, the state of the art is so developed that it's hard to get that edge, unless youre THE DEEGS and literally grow up on an sx track (which makes me wonder how the hell cole davies did what he did btw ffs)
Yes Jett is facing a better field . I agreed with that . You said MC didn't have much competition which is inaccurate . All that said I don't think Jett sniffs 73 wins . Here we are talking about it and he's not even in double digit wins yet lol .
Deegan grew up on SX tracks and can't even win a depleted divisional 250 championship, lol. Bmx definitely helped MC but he had talent that can't be taught
Pit Row
true. proves my point. everyone is good at sx now. mc had loads of talent tho for sure.
This is why everyone boos Jett now.
It doesn't prove your point at all, lol. Everyone is good at MX too and rode way more of that growing up, yet Deegan beat their asses last summer because it suits his style
McGrath's style was perfect for SX, but not as good for outdoors
I’ve never hated a post more .
What time do the Deegan threads on race wins start?
72-9....fact....
Probably a stupid comment, but MC also wasn't racing against the vet class.
Stanton retired at the end of 94.
Facts
One of those threads that makes you think...man that's dumb
McGrath didn't crash or hurt himself as much that's for sure.
I feel dumber reading this post and now need to go to my safe space.
