A recent post had the epithets "Screech" and "marble mouth" in the heading. It is really necessary to insult people like that, even if you don't like them or agree with them? Some don't seem to realize that people have feelings and such comments can be hurtful. It doesn't matter if they are public figures or not, unless they are truly bad people, it is not right to hurl such insults! This behavior doesn't just apply to the OP, but to a number of people on here. I think the thing we most need again in these times is civility!

Calling her annoying is Ok? Where is the line in the sand?
THrowing some Jalapenos on the popcorn for this thread....it's gonna be spicy.
There's nothing wrong with calling someone annoying or irritating, etc. is fine, but that's different from name calling. I was talking specifically about epithets, not opinions or criticisms.
Are both the threads he’s referencing started by you?

I blame Covid.
Not my threads....
...but I am the one that originated the "Screetch" name several years back. I've since come up with "Shrill".
I'm a big meanie.
Interesting, no idea if Screech would prefer to be called annoying, but we know where your line is at least, even if the intent and meaning is the same.

Here is what I think
I don't think Will or anyone else gives a rats ass what a bunch of us knuckle-draggers have to say.
(...and taking a meme that was recently posted in non-moto)
Words to live by.....
The examples you reference are Finishing School level social discourse compared to what some members on here call other members simply because they have a different opinion or preference. Not saying it's right, just that it's trivial on the scale of epithets that get tossed around on Vital eHarmony.
I’m not sure how “old” of a can-am rider you are but there use to be a saying back in the day. Sticks and stones…… Wil has a shrill voice at times so people related it to a screeching bird. Ricky is not an eloquent speaker and butchers the English language like he has marbles in his mouth. So what? These terms are super offensive? Get outta here with this sensitive nonsense.
Edgy take - you shouldn’t insult people at all.
Don't like it? Don't read it.
That is a hard concept for many people theses days.
You were saying? 😂
Impressive hypocrisy.👍
What a Jackass.... ^^^^^^
(KIDDDING!!!!) 😜
Spot on man....the direct personal insults on here are off the charts....not to mention against the rules. No....we ain't talking about lumping people into groups...like "snowflakes" etc.
It’s the internet, as much as you’re entitled to your opinion and to phrase things how you please, so are they. The ability to scroll past things you don’t agree with without feeling the compulsion to make a comment is a virtue. Moderation of what can/can’t/should/shouldn’t be said is up to the owner of the sandpit we’re digging.
Online sports forums are like a sports bar, but even more loose lipped in a sense. lol
Try this .... Head on down to your local sports bar during the Superbowl next week and listen to the fans trash talk players ect....
Then try that speech with them.

I think a lot of the problem is text based communication. I like to indulge in name-calling on here but it's done good-naturedly. The trouble is that often doesn't come across in the cold black and white of text.
For sure. Tone and inflection are definitely difficult to convey via the written word. 🤔
However, there are some who leave no doubt as to what their intended tone is. 😄
So, is Lurch okay to use?
Who uses the word epithets ? You know why Dogs always bark twice at you ? There trying say FU in Dog .
Civility is not a common feature here, my friend. But I applaud your effort to remind us of what’s possible.
so i started that thread. i tend to not use epithets or ad hominems ever in discourse or argument or anything. in this case, they're descriptors of the problem, they're public figures, and the producers of the show have consciously disregarded public demand and feedback. therefore, i believe it to be an appropriate escalation. i didn't coin either term, but am proud to use them in the context of their public speaking ineptitude.
There's more civility on this forum when you dip below the oil slick surface...
That’s more of an observation. Didn’t say I was perfect either.
Still shouldn’t insult people.
And yet even the television broadcast crew refers to him as a barnyard animal.
Sir this is a dirt bike forum, please lower your expectations of proper conduct.
Personal philosophy: don’t write something you would not say in person. Especially anonymously. A lack of anonymity would likely change the dialogue & discourse on most forums.
Bring back reasonable bullying.
