A2 Question

I am going to A2 tomorrow night with my friend and we are both bringing our 14 year old children.  The Opening Ceremonies start at 5:00 pm.  We are thinking about going early and going into the pits/FanFest area.  I checked out the links but could not find any specific information.  Maybe I missed it. My questions are:

- About what time do the pits/FanFest open and close?  I assume they open but then close way before 5:00 to give the riders time to get ready for the opening cermonies.

- What time are the riders there signing autographs?  I am guessing long lines.

- Any thoughts as to worth it for two 14 year olds?

Thank you very much.  I am been going to SX and Anaheim for years, but I haven't been in the pit area in 15+ years.  I do remember some really good times in the parking lot before the races.

Qualifying is definitely better in person. The broadcast typically follows a pre-set lineup of guys whether or not they’re on a fast lap which is annoying. Being there in person allows you to focus on who you want, when you want. Fan fest is whatever. I believe all signings happen between Q1 and Q2.

An empty Monster Energy can (one per person) will get you into Fanfest for "free".

Fanfest is open 10:30am-4:30pm. Depending on the venue, sometimes security will want you out of there at 4:30pm on the dot but sometimes they wont care as much. (I feel like Anaheim is pretty pushy about getting everyone out, but can't remember for sure.)

If you want autographs from any of the big names, get there early and expect to wait in a long line and miss most of the practice sessions.

Sometimes you can catch one of the more sociable factory riders (like Plessinger) signing outside of the designated time, but that's just luck of the draw.

Typically qualifying and fan fest ope simultaneously. Think 10 or 10:30.  Bring an empty Monster can to the tent under the big hat out front and get your hand stamped for Fan Fest.  Not sure of the time since it’s starting earlier this year, but yes the pits close and you can either stay in the stadium or you can “pass out”  by the big hat to go get food, jackets, whatever, and your ticket will get you back in for the night show.  Have fun!  See you there, bringing a first timer.  Should be good.

For the cost of a couple cans of Monster, the fan fest is definitely worth it for a couple teenagers and yourself really! Getting to see all the bikes up close, plenty of free Monster Energy drinks if you’re into those, a few interactive games/activities to watch or partake in and the BMX competition is really cool too.

Thanks for the suggestions, especially the Monster cans.  We decided to go.

There is usually of other things going on like BMX jumping, cars stunts and sport bike freestyle that are not SX that could entertain a 14 year olds attention.

Even standing and observing what is going on behind the scenes at teams. Privateers and B teams would be great to check out how the backbone of the sport operates.
