In 88 I lived in Camarillo. Not too far from lake Cachuma and, lake Casitas. I’m sure I spelled both wrong. There was a severe drought going on. What was amazing was driving past those lakes and, seeing what the previous levels were before the droughts and, how low the lakes had dropped in capacity.

Southern California has never gotten much rain. I would average it out to maybe a total of three weeks out of an average year.

Yeah, I’m pretty used to an arid climate coming from Eastern Washington, but Pacific Palisades ‘averages’ nearly double the annual rainfall than Wenatchee. That’s what blows my mind about them only getting less than 1mm of rain in about 8 months. It’s especially mind blowing since it sounds like they had 2 previous seasons of optimal rainfall for foliage to grow.

Sounds like a perfect storm situation.

Also, I read that the reservoir that was empty had been down since last February for repairs to the cover. In theory it could have been filled but it would have taken weeks and putting it back on the water system would have caused boil water conditions for the entire region because the water in it wouldn’t be potable.  Not sure if that will be confirmed when all is said and done.

It’s odd thinking about them not having two separate systems. Honestly, I wouldn’t have thought the hydrants would be tied into domestic water. Yet, the sprinkler systems inside buildings I’ve plumbed are tied into domestic and, protected by back flow devices.

Having two separate systems would be ideal though. I guess one could dream.

I honestly hadn’t given it much thought before, but I guess I’ve always assumed that hydrants are connected to the potable water supply system of the area. It would be interesting to know if there are any in the US that are actually designed to fight wildfires/forest fires. I would imagine that all of them would probably be overwhelmed pretty quickly by the demand from this type of fire, especially at the highest elevations of service.

In Eastern Washington we’ve lost towns, but they were extremely small because the population density is so much lower than what it is down there. Just the smaller towns were devastating to see, this current fire’s damage to people’s homes is truly incomprehensible to me. I mean I can sort of understand the numbers involved, but I’m absolutely sure that I can’t begin to imagine the pain that those who have lost loved ones, animals, and irreplaceable property in this situation.

It would be better if they had dedicated systems IMO. Routine maintenance wouldn’t impede on the other system. Or, if there was a problem, maybe even bypass systems for both so, they could still function while being worked on. If I’m installing systems inside a building, they generally have, bypasses for the back flow device and, isolation valves for each floor, restroom etc when, there’s a repair needing to be completed.  You’d think the water supply to the counties would have something in place considering everything.

It’s a dire situation down there for sure. Top the loss of homes, valuables and , loved ones off with looters it’s really heartbreaking. My family though 30-40 miles away from the fire are dealing with ash on their vehicles and, Smokey conditions. I can’t help but, to wonder how much of that stuff is hazardous. I’m sure many of those homes that burned were filled with asbestos.

Uh oh, climatewombo throws out more weak bullshit.

Hey boy, I don't have to answer to your idiotic ass for how I post on the internet.

And in the real world, I'd walk right on past someone like you, and continue conversing with those that matter.

Just like I do here.

So STFU and go peddle your leftist whining to someone who doesn't see you as just another dimwitted, agitating troll.

You a taco or a burrito guy?

The only way we're going to close the divide between your kind and mine is if we start communicating, Joey. Be brave! I don't bite.

Strong assumption there, that any of us would want to close the divide with you.

We all know who is and isn't worth the effort. You're not worth the effort.

Besides, you're a know-it-all - why do you need anyone else?

I see his screen name,  and about a half dozen  others for that matter, in notifications and I  just hit mark as read.

Absolutely nothing of substance.  Almost makes me wish the previous guy was still in charge...almost.

Out here in Cali, "dudes", has always been a gender neutral word (at least for my lifetime)... but please, force even more gender politics into the world, it's not like we don't already have enough of it.

But with that said...

Are you a chips and salsa or a chips and dip kinda person?

FFS.  You guys made me have to go back and read how I got dragged into the conversation.

For the record.    I ignore and don't respond to raging assholes....     Even if they are people who think EXACTLY like me.

We clear?

Carry on.

OMG.

As of now there is no official recall filed on Newsom. The problem is that it appears there’s no one to make decisions and it’s hard to go around him. In this case getting rid of Newsom is the primary emergency, even more so than the fire. And as we’re witnessing, he will be smiling and bs-ing all the way to CA falling off into the ocean, or if the entire state burns up.

Smiling, BS’ing because, non of these emergencies affect him personally.

It’s not his house burned down to the foundation. Zero accountability. Zero situational awareness . Get out of the way and, let people who know how to do their jobs, do them.
