Haven't rowed for time in forever. Over a year at least. Saw this challenge today on RacerX and decided to give it a shot. Did my 500m as the first exercise of the day and pulled a 1:50 with the resistance set at 10 because I'm not really sure where it should be set? Did a high-intensity circuit for an hour before attempting the 2000m. Probably a mistake but whatever it's a start. I pulled the 2000m in 8:12 again with the resistance set at 10. I expect these to get a lot better in the coming weeks because now I'm focused........ Wink

From what I understand, the resistance shouldn't affect your times. Glad you could join us!

I just tried to do my 2000 about 45 minutes after dinner, big mistake. Had to stop for 5-10 seconds in the middle because I thought I was about to be throwing up. Still managed a 7:19 with the stopping so I guess that's not too bad, especially since my record is a 7:18.

Just a reminder.... This week's challenge is 2k and 5k. If you thought 500m was tough wait until you do your best 5000m time. I finally got around to uploading my workouts from my PM4 for all the world to see. My daily workout is 30mins so I am going to have to switch it up this week.

I'm more pumped for the 5000 than I was for the 500! Ha. 5000 is less of a torture IMO. Gotta beat my best time of 19:18 this week...

Nice! We definitely have some solid competition on here it looks like.

I only thing I did today on my erg was use it during some circuit stuff.... So I didnt go all out on a 2k or 5k just yet. Might wait until later in the week this time around.

RCC104 do you race Palmyra? A51?

Sorry Chase, just caught that post....

I mainly stick to the D3 tracks, since everything's about an 1-1.5 hour drive from me there. Although I've been out to those tracks before and was planning on getting out that way again. I like them both. So far this year I haven't really been able to ride a ton just yet. Had some shoulder/tricep issues I'm working through a bit.

Hey Guys, I am off to Cali for the CrossFit games (not competing) and then to spend some time with the RVCA / BJ Penn guys. I will try and keep up but if I don't it is only because of time and access. Below is a workout I am doing today that was sent to me from a "friend" try it some time. - Greg

Greg,
Tabata X 10

Ski Erg for max watts
Body Squat for reps
with 20 # vest

Tabata 1: erg for max watts then rest 10 sec. and squat for reps
Tabata 2: erg for max watts then rest 10 sec. and squat for reps etc.
each movement gets 10 tabatas

Don't even let go of the handles

score by dividing max watts by ten and adding to squat reps (sorry about the math)

The lowest scoring tabata is your score

My worst score was a 31
19 erg and 12 squat
Have fun,

Awesome time. That would put you at 7th in the world in the 13 - 18 age group if you submit your time to concept 2.

Little off for me this week I tried to cram my 5k and 2k back to back. I'll have to change my schedule up next week.

Are you interested in a VitalMX Concept2 rowing competition? (UPDATED 7/8/10)

After seeing a couple topics pop-up here and there about them, and being a user myself, I thought it might be fun little deal… and maybe a little extra motivation to push harder when training.

--------

What you will need

Access to a C2 rower, a camera, Internet access, lots of water, and possibly a puke bucket.

Classes

Three ways to battle it out (2 age groups):
- 500 Meter
- 2000 Meter
- 5000 Meter
- +40 500 Meter
- +40 2000 Meter
- +40 5000 Meter

Timeline

This competition will last 8 weeks. This gives you time to get your fitness up to snuff, work on your times, post times, talk crap and see where everyone else is at. This will officially kickoff July 5th (the perfect time to start burning off those Fourth of July grilled mayonnaise balls), with your best Week 8 (Aug. 23-29) times due in by Monday August 30 at Midnight.

Each week is dedicated to 2 of 3 challenges. You must log at least one time for each of those particular distances during that week to show where you are at. Of course, you can still post whatever you want on VitalMX, too.

Week 1: 500, 2k
Week 2: 5k, 2k
Week 3: 5k, 500
Week 4: 500, 2k
Week 5: 5k, 2k
Week 6: 5k, 500
Week 7: 500, 2k
Week 8: FINALS - ALL (It is also mandatory that during the finals you paste photos of your monitor details here on VitalMX, as well)

Rules

You may only use final 500, 2k, and 5k times generated during the 8th week. I will post a secret word the final week, and it must be taped to you monitor when you take a picture, unless your monitor is on detailed view and shows the date. This ensures everyone puts in an effort through the whole competition and doesn’t quit, for example, after Week 4, and then posts their best times from that week on the final week.

Create a C2 Logbook and become a training partner

1) Jump onto the Concept2 logbook and make a profile. Its really quick.
2) Go to your Profile. In the descriptions you will find your Ranking ID #. Post it here.
3) After you have someones Ranking ID # go to the bottom of your Profile and you can then enter that persons number is as a Training Partner (or accept requests). If we all do this, we will be able to see everyones logs as they go along.

Prizes

1) Greg at Concept2 will hook-up the winners with some C2 swag.
2) Robb Beams of MotoEndurance.net is giving everyone a free training guide for anyone in the challenge. Go to this link http://www.concept2.com/...r_sports/default.asp and click on the box where it says MotoE rider resources. That will take you to Robb’s site and in the comments write VitalMX. He is also going to give out a free 3 month racing batch program to anyone who finishes the challenge

There could be more to come, as well.
Some other things you can expect though are:
- Glory of being able to say you’re not just a fat lazy guy that likes to talk about moto on VitalMX
- Ability to ride longer and faster motos when you hit the track
- A trimmer, happier, you
- Lots of chicks!!! (or guys…or both)

So what do you say? Who’s in?!
Week 3 starts tomorrow....

Work on those 500's and 5Ks

Thanks.
I am a little disappointed about not breaking the 7 min mark.. I thought I had it in the bag...but I did race yesterday so maybe a bit tired...

I guess I should post the image for some proof though..

It's going to be really interesting to see how much all of our times come down over the next few weeks.
