In The Reed’s latest YT episode, him and Tate are testing back to back the 250Fs.
Interesting listening to his feedback. Unfortunately he didn’t give as much info about the KTM as he did the others.
In short:
YZF- biggest operating window. Traditional Yamaha handing. Not necessarily more powerful than the others, but more over-rev.
CRF- Slow. Well actually, it’s very bottom-endy, falls flat on top.
KXF- Great ergos, great OEM suspension, pretty fast.
KTM- he didn’t say as much.
If he had to race one, he’d choose YZF, KTM, KXF, CRF.
Watch it and feed back.
Loved Reed as a rider. As for a YouTube shootout, those bikes will be ranked in whichever order he gets paid the most.
on pulpmx he rated Yamaha and KTM as standouts and KX as a good bike.
The most impressive part of the video was his daughter.
Not a fan of the way he speeds up the video of Tate.
what i gather is that you cant go wrong with any of the 25 250's. We are also currently testing 25 bikes also, (Honda, Yamaha, and Kawasaki 250's) to decide what he will ride at the end of 25. Although the KTM group is not an option in our case, i believe that the bike your kid should be on is the one that feels the most comfortable. Power and suspension can be improved and usually are the first things modified. Ergos and all around feel are not as easily modified and should be priority

Reed isn't going to ride KTM anymore. That's why they're testing 3 brands and NO KTM's.. KTM has problems and Reed is smart. He knows he won't be able to get any support from KTM while they're going thru the trenches.
My guess: Yamaha Close 2nd: Kawasaki Honda never had a chance.
He hasn’t had a manufacturer deal with ktm in recent years, just the dealership.
Not a bad shootout/review video from the Reeds. It seemed obvious to me they all looked the best on the Yamaha.
Their dealership sponsor, Mountain Motorsports, sells all 4 brands in that video.
Reed doesn't outfit his whole family with one brand unless they're helping him in some way. And since KTM is heading to deeper waters, they've pulled all support. Hence, why Reed is now finding new bikes to ride..
This may be true but I think he is looking at the big picture and future pathways for his kids.
Regardless, he is helping promote Mountain Motorsports and they sell those bikes.
No, his family rode ktms because they are the only company that gives a damn about developing mini bikes and the dealership that sponsors him sells ktm, along with other brands. Now that they are moving to bigger bikes there are more options to try. Why do you think it’s more then that?
They have been supported by Mountain Motorsports not KTM, they were not paid by KTM....
nrosso, why make things up, bro? You don't know that the Reed's are sponsored by KTM directly.
It looked as though the CRF that they tested was the WE model. Disappointed in his thoughts on that bike.
I was a little bit surprised that he didn't really like the Honda at all, especially being the Works Edition. I was kinda of curious since he was talking about operating window and whatnot of each chassis, did he set sag and mess with settings for each person or did they all just ride it stock and pass them back and forth? Either way, it was a cool video.
He didn't like the forks. Not many folks do. It runs out of beans on top. We all know that too. Rest of bike was good. Yep.
Has this bike got the 49mm Showa Fork on it?
(I know the 2020/21 bike has)
The old 47mm Showa was a great fork! How did they mess it up with the 49mm??
When did you ride the new Honda 250?
He took a dirt sample on that bike. They were riding in sand. The Honda does not particularly like sand. That super steering is too much. I am not shocked they liked the YZ best in those conditions. They would probably like the 2023 YZ even more.
Pit Row
He didn’t…
Strange with those descriptions that he didn’t have the KX first choice
He's a YouTube, Google keyboard expert on everything...
Would like to see them go Yamaha just so I can see Chad rip the OG YZ 250.
You guys can call me a liar, I don't care. But one thing I know for sure, Reed is very wise with his business decisions to make sure he's getting support. Not just the dealership.
So you know for sure that Reed was getting paid by KTM?
Honda been the quikest turning bike and "less stable" it seems fair that he did not like the chassis on a Sand track !
What does he means about "supercross" front end feeling on the yami ? He also said that KTM is by far the bike with the lighter feel....i am a little bit surprised, i was thinking it was the opposite.
No. But knowing how smart Reed is business-wise, he'd definitely work a deal to be getting support. Why else does the timeline line up perfectly with everything that KTM has abandoned?
Well, it could be that they have more options for bikes now that they are moving to big bikes. I mean that's literally what Chad said in the video.....
I don't follow the Reeds super closely to be fair. Have they had a bunch of KTM branding on stuff the past few years or has it mostly been Mountain Motorsports branding?
That’s what he said on Pulp too. I love me a good conspiracy theory though
Of course he ranked the Honda last, it was the only bike he fell on. Lol was super negative after that about it
