After getting tired of buying washers I bought a speed queen heavy duty commercial washer that was supposed to be the "Best heaviest duty simplest washer available" Bought it 2020, had to put new circuit board in it less than a year ago and it's already fucking up again. Doe any company make a washer that isn't a total and complete pile of shit ? Are speed queens any good ? Supposedly they make one without a circuit board but theyre hard to find. Or should I just go buy the cheapest piece of garbage I can find and plan on replacing it every 2 years ? I walked away from it before I smashed it into pieces and set it on fire. Is it worth even fucking with ?
They're all shit now-a-days in my estimation.
Find a cheap one that the wife likes, and think of it like a cigar.

My Speed Queen has been great but it is only two years old. best thing is it actually cleans the clothes. for the first year I could tell if I was wearing a shirt that was or wasn't washed with it just by the smell of it .

I found this video, Speed Queen does make one without a circuit board. I am 1,000% over circuit boards, I know everything has them now and they're supposed to be the end all to end all problems, but my experience is they're nothing BUT problems.

I AM CONVINCED that the best move is to hit estate sales to buy OLDER washer/dryers and even refrigerators and freezers.
They build them now to break and only be fixed by a manufacturer repair man or not be repaired at all.

I’ve been fixing pool equipment since 1977, You are 100% correct. Pool heaters built in the late 60’s were works of art. Thick heat exchangers, brass by pass valves, bronze headers, pilot lights (gasp) that kept them warm and dry and rust free, thermocouples so no electricity they lasted 20 years outside, the ones that were put in a garage out of the weather lasted twice that. Now ? 3 to 5 years for commercials, 5 to 7 for residentials then chuck em into the landfill. They have wafer thin heat exchangers and blowers so they run extra hot, exhaust temp sensors, vacuum sensors, electronic ignition, transformers, digital displays, new Raypaks have a serviceable part that we’re supposed to change every 6 months ($95+ for the home owner) all in the name of using less natural gas, then into the landfill they go. That is somehow supposed to be better for the planet. I don’t see it but whatever. Criminal is an accurate term.
We have the older model of this one, purchased in 2017, no issues/problems and it is the best washer we have ever used. I would not buy the one with a circuit board knowing that it would fail in the near future. My advise is to sell your current washer and buy the other one.
I'm old school, the only things that have a circuit board on our two year old pool is the salt cell and multi speed pump. We will see how those hold up.

Ok fiddling around with the washer last night and this morning. I can get it to wash a super small load, but anything larger than a few t shirts and some shorts it shuts off (full of water) If I unplug it and yank out half the load and restart it it does its thing. It just handle much. I noticed this morning it’s out of level by about a 1/4-3/8 of an inch. I leveled it when I installed it but between then and it’s out of level. Could be from wiggling around and screwing the legs in on one side, or maybe when the guy put the circuit board in, or my garage might have shifted who knows. Anyway I’m going to put loctite on the leveling legs and get it dead nuts level and try again. Hoping that works.
Ok leveling it didn't do shit. It'll run fine without clothes in it, (insert eyeroll) But if you put a load in it it shuts off, full of water, with 2 blue blinking lights on wash and rinse. Apparently there's a spring to put tension on the belt that turns the tub to spin the water out, when there's weight in it (ie: clothes) over time the spring stretches out it doesn't have enough tension to keep the belt tight, it senses the drum not turning and goes into error mode. So now it's figure out which spring (there's shitloads listed and hard to identify which one it is) or just call the repair guy again, which is probably what I'm going to do, or maybe I'll yank it out and see what the hardware store has, I'll see how I feel tomorrow lol. As much as I don't mind learning and fixing things, I'm over it fucking with. At least I have a good idea what it is, it can't be that much to replace the spring but what a piece a shit. I've had washers and dryers last for decades, this POS is just under 5 years old.

I had a customer tell me I should go into the pool equipment extended warry business. "Why don't you offer an extended warry to your customers, with equipment being thousands of dollars now you could sell them a policy for $100' a month and tell them you'll fix anything that breaks for free" If you sold 150 policy's that'd be $15K a month". It sounded like an interesting idea, but also a huge risk the way things are made now. My luck 73 heaters would take a shit the same month and I'd be SOL. Still an interesting idea though.

I have a Defy fridge in my garage that's close on 25 yrs old...not one bit of shit ever whilst the fucking expensive Hisense fridge in the kitchen has given us a world of shit and it's not even hit 3 yrs. The crap they sell nowadays is just that....CRAP.

Good luck with your washer. If you figure out which spring it is, buy a few of them. Kind of like chain, sprockets, etc. on a scooter, have a backup just in case.

Okaay ...... My washer doesn't look like anything in the multiple youtube videos I looked at. There's no belt tensioner, just direct drive and the belt is tight and in great shape. From what I've learned it could be a faulty lid lock switch, or the springs that let it move around are bad and allowing it to trip the shutoff switch that's positioned so if it gets too far to one side it hits it. The more I fiddle with it the more I wonder if the "New" board is a piece of crap like the old board. The place I called was a local company I've used before, but it was a newer younger kid that was googling stuff before he determined it was the board. They gave me a 30 day warry on their repair. So I'm going to find a Speed Queen authorized repair place and call them. I give, fuck it. This will be the last "Top of the line" appliance I buy, ever. Time to price the cheapest washer I can find so I'm informed enough to decide if I want to spend the cheese to fix it, or go get a cheapy. Beating it to death with a claw hammer sounds extremely satisfying at this point, plus I can always use another fire ring.
The Speed Queen TV 2000 is available online for $1,507. That's the one with a mechanical timer and NO computer or circuit board. But Lowes has a whirlpool for under 500 bucks... Looking like new fire ring time either way unless I can figure out a cheap fix. So far I'm getting skunked trying to fix this pile myself. So will a Speed Queen heavy duty old school mechanical timer washer out last 3 cheapo's ? That's where were at. Leaning towards the cheapo. I'm almost 66, overweight and don't eat that well, I probably shouldn't even be buying green bananas 😄 Anyone in so cal need a backyard fire ring ? LOL
This our current setup. I thought they were bought in the 90's, but they are actually 2002 models. Each is a whirlpool . I've never spent a dime on either for maintenance. The dryer was $360, the washer $390.
Did pretty good I think on this estate sale buy. $100 for this 2009 Frigidaire 21 cu ft freezer.

Know what else I'll never get again ? An icemaker and water fillers in a fridge door. A water filter and plastic ice cube trays for the win
We just got a new fridge. Finally after like 3 months of looking. Worse than buyng a new vehicle I swear. Anywhere you go looking, and talking to anyone sounding half honest about this stuff, you hear ' they're all junk these days anyways....'. The first of our 1995 vintage Kenmore original stuff to be replaced. Really not looking forward to the second, whichever one it will be. Or maybe it'll end up being the 2024 LG fridge that gets replaced next. 🤐

My appliance knowledge is outdated but when I was younger I did have a brief stint selling appliances. Never heard of Speed Queen so I have no opinion on that. Most appliances are built to last 5 years now. More features generally mean more problems. More money does not necessarily mean more reliability. I remember people buying this expensive Electrolux dishwasher that was just a piece of shit - I’d actively discourage people from buying it. People were often astonished when I’d discourage them from spending too much and steer them to simpler, more reliable options (probably why my career as a salesperson was so brief!). There were cases where more money meant a better quality product - most notably Miele, which was built to last 25 years. I did own a Miele dishwasher and it was fantastic in every way. Their laundry was solid but pricey. If money is no object, I’d go Miele, assuming they’re still as good as they were 15 year ago when I was selling them (as I say that I realize how useless my opinion probably is!).
I think Speed Queen was exclusive to the Military and commercial laundry mats for quite a while. Probably why you hadn’t heard of them.
The Speedqueen TV 2000 with no computer or circuit board was 1350 plus tax and a 30 DAY parts only warry. F that. Pulled the trigger on a Maytag from Lowe’s. OTD with a 5 year extended warry (parts and labor) delivered and set up tomorrow, and hauling the old one away was $873’. So 873 and covered for 5 years. Like a deal but different but we’re good for 5 years. Seemed like the best option.
