Debating on making setting up shop in the Dallas (Little Elm to be exact) area for January & February. What and where are there good open facilities/tracks, and maybe even some private tracks within a 90/100 mile radius? Does anyone do weekly riding during this time, or just weekends?
Also, how hit and miss is are the temps? Looks like it’s 30’degrees one day, and 70’s another.
I am debating this over Florida, and intend on hitting a few of the winter series races, and awful 8 series if that happens.
Aubrey area is probably better to build a track on. More open land and the city doesn't really complain much from what I know.
By the way, welcome to Texas. Major temp changes within hours. I've played golf on Jan 1 before and we've had snow other years. Overall, it isn't too cold or wet here usually.
No real tracks anywhere near Little Elm or similar. I'd say a good 45 minutes to any tracks. Oakhill is one to look at.
I’m headed to Dallas for a little riding trip this winter too. Am also curious if there are hidden gems
Did this last winter and intend to head there in Feb/March again.
Rode a lot at Oakhill, Masterpools and River Valley - loved them all and hope to explore more.
Best bet is to join Facebook and join the Texas Moto groups including Texas Motocross Calendar group. Lots of options, race tracks, personal tracks, training based, open practice and everything in between. Further South you go obviously the warmer it gets, but DFW can have major daily temp shifts in the winter.

Swan has some winter racing going on, and I know Freestone has a winter race around new years every year, always cold at that one!
Little Elm these days is smack in the middle of the suburbs, that means heavy traffic in any direction. The closest track would probably be Bad Lands which is NE of the DFW metroplex, and River Valley which is NW of Ft Worth, both tracks are probably at least an hour in either direction with traffic. East of Dallas there is Buffalo Creek (90 min drive) and Swan (2 hr drive), and south of Dallas is Freestone (2 hour drive).
If you wanted to stay in the area with the intent of riding moto, I would stay on the North side of ft worth, There are a few tracks to the north and west of the city like River Valley and Oak Hill which are pretty easy to get to once you are on that side of the metroplex, plus you are close to Red River and Trophy Club for trail riding.
It sounds like the closest track to me, Village Creek, may be closing. Hopefully not, but there were several reports of it in the last couple of weeks.
Austin has some fun ones and a brand new one that looks awesome opening in Jan I believe
If you wanna try a litttle slice of Moto Heaven, make your way down to San Antonio to Cycle Ranch Mx. Some of the best dirt and facility’s in Texas/USA. If you’ve never been promise you’ll love it.
What’s the new track?
Thanks everyone. Going to look more into these options.
Cody is moving from Smithville to Bastrop and the new track is called River Oaks Moto Park
East of the metroplex, badlands! Buffalo creek! Swan! Johnsonville mx! A lil farther east Billadilla! Tapt house! Underground Mx! West of metroplex, his 956! Oak hill ! River valley!
Village creek is just on the south side of ft worth but may be closing down ( let’s hope not ) freestone is about an hour &half south
If it were me I’d look on the east side!
Village creek is closed for the time being, hopefully its just temporary.
