Hold on a bit. I thought the reports were that he lost part of a kidney not the whole thing.

Well that stinks that it was the whole thing.

My grandfather was born with only one kidney and it never slowed him down from anything and he made it to 90 years old. Then again he was probably 50 or older before the doc realized he only had one kidney.

Very sorry to hear, hope you heal up as quickly as possible, Davi.

Didn't Roger D crash into some trees at Namur and lose a kidney or was that a spleen? It's been a few years, anyone remember?

My son and I are wondering how a person could lose a kidney? Was it bruised so bad it wouldn't be able to repair itself? Or was it actually torn or what?

If it's lacerated enough to not heal but most of the time it gets seperated from the renal arteries. Also the kidneys are right below the 11th and 12th ribs so if they crack and come down then BAM kidney.

Doesn't the fact that Davi kept tweeting through emergency surgery prove his dedication and toughness? I'm just kidding...I hope it was his girlfriend or crew that tweeted. If it was him....well I just don't know what to say about that. At any rate I hope he heals up quick and gets to feeling better. He will probably be faster than ever...he's lighter now.

I can't believe * took this opportunity to state that Davis career is done. Talk about kicking a man while he's down.

I know Davi's had some ups and downs but the true mark of a man is how he gets up after being knocked down. My money's on Saps getting back up...

Super bummed! Hope he heals up good. But racing with one kidney is kinda crazy. If you lose that last kidney you're pretty much dead.

Jim I wasn't so much having a go at Terry or flarider as I think their comments were very 'tongue in cheek' as one, or maybe both, may know Davi.

It's more the "he's done" comments that get me. Davi's barely waking up from anaesthetic and "he's done". Hey *, give the guy a chance to wake up, clear his head and think about his future.

But if Terry or flarider were serious with their comments then I'm with you on this one. It's just I don't think they were.... Wink

I don't think losing a kidney is the end of his career. As long as he keeps properly hydrated and off alcohol and things like that, he should be fine.

Do you guys know Stefan Everts has been living without a spleen for over a decade?

Wow that is a bummer to hear, hell of a way to take a forced vacation from racing.

Had a friend who lost one in a car crash, took him over a year to get well again.

Dayum Davi! I know a few people people that have only one kidney and they do just fine I do not know how that would affect a racers career and training but in all seriousness I would be surprised if he didn't hang it up. He has been at it for about 7 years now and had some pretty serious injuries: Femur, Broken Neck, Lost a Kidney....thats a gnarley list of stuff right there and he has made some good money racing.....Get well soon Davi hope you can make it back.

A spleen is bad but acts as a fliter for your blood so it can be removed if necessary i.e. ruptured. The recovery process is long because you cannot do anything that will raise your blood pressure because it will cause massive internal bleeding. It happned to my buddy while out riding some MX and he is fine now.....
