Hi!

This looks really impressive https://www.dirtrider.com/tests/gear/141_1101_jett_america_zero_idx1_mx…

I am sure its provide a lot of protection if i land on my shoulder due the high suspension, prob this is the highest, so it will absorb huge amount of energy. But what if for example hit a tree horizontally? I will ride in winter, mud and ice, narrow path, trees around. Planning to use this chest protector over my protector jacket, just because of the great shoulder protection. Or should i get a hockey or football shoulder pad? Its just 1,5 times heavier, but it seems to be able to effectively protect from more directions and on a larger surface.

That company has been out of business for more than a decade.

There are much better, more modern options out there for chest protectors. If a website still has these in stock after ten years, there is probably a reason.

Look up the HRP shoulder pads and see what you think. They seem a little similar.

This is a dangerous sport, and at some point wearing layers of hockey pads over moto gear will only do so much.

My friend, what you think, how will a 2 cm thick supermodern material help you if you land on your shoulder first? Maybe will reduce the G force by 0,5%. Better if its suspended, so it can lead most of the energy to the chest protector.

mx317: I know the HRP, nice one, but sadly not availabe in my country, not even in EU.

The suspension of the shoulder pad is pure placebo and has no effect on how much energy it will absorb. Chest protection has evolved and modern D3O materials absorb way more shock than that ever will. There’s a reason no modern chest protectors use this “feature”.

I go back to my earlier statement though, this is a dangerous sport, and bubble wrapping yourself in layers and layers of “protective” gear isn’t the solution. Go to the gym, get stronger, do yoga and stretch to be more flexible. Those are the tickets to avoiding injury.

Are you totally sure? I read a lot of reviews here, and those who used the most modern protective stuffs wrote that there is no effective protection for the shoulders. However, some people have posted that the suspended shoulder pads took a huge hit when they fell on their shoulders. I was just reading a post today where a person showed a picture of an old style fox airframe chest protector with a suspended shoulder. It broke into pieces, but his shoulder was fine. It must have been a very big blow. I found it, the last answer on the first page https://www.vitalmx.com/forums/Moto-Related,20/Pros-used-to-dress-for-t…
Yes, training the body is a huge help, but a guy also wrote on the forum that after a lot of training, his tendons are not injured anymore but his bones. No longer a shoulder injury, but a broken collarbone, which is certainly better than a shoulder injury, but I'd like to avoid it if I can. Don't take it as an insult, I swear, I'm not writing this to offend you, and thanks for your answer, I just want to avoid avoidable injuries as much as possible.

What injuries do you think you’re going to avoid with this shoulder protection? Anytime I’ve broken or dislocated something it’s because I hit the ground too hard going too fast. Just my opinion.

It seems to me that shoulder dislocations are easy to avoid with it, the energy goes into the chest protector. The suspension prevents the top of your shoulders from hitting the ground.

This is just my guess, don't expect too much from me, I have no experience. Maybe someone with experience will write and convince you guys.

The best shoulder protection would the the Alpinestars Tech Air Offroad system.

I wear the A6 and it's fantastic and modern materials do a shockingly good job of absorbing impacts and are also very comfortable.  If max protection is your thing, get the Tech Air.

Just throwing this out here…I blew my humeral head (shoulder ball) into 4 pieces. Didn’t have a mark on my shoulder or anywhere near it. All I was wearing was a Leatt under protector. Wear normal amounts of protection so you can ride with proper technique to try and avoid crashing. Bubble suits and football gear aren’t going to save you.

This ☝️

If you're looking for the best protection, Alpinestars tech air is pretty expensive but that's it.
