A genius move made by my a local club/track and dealer, was to offer members a 15% discount for all parts and gear at the dealer. I pretty much haven’t shopped online since. It has been great, I have saved so much on consumables, especially oil last which aren’t really sold at discount normally. Also saved a ton on oem parts for my 03 KX125

End of day, tough to beat both price AND convenience advantages. Just how commerce works.

I was just reading the Dunlop thread about production moving overseas. Lots of commentary about how it is government policy ruining this or that. No doubt. But let’s face it - consumers (majority) are not going to pay an extra XX% because the tire is made in upstate NY and businesses are not charities.

A lot of nostalgia out there for how business used to be, but the Internet, streamlined logistics,  and the rise of working class in other countries just doesn’t bode well for your local dealership.

Surprised you can’t order dirt bikes online, to be honest.

Back in the day, race oriented dealers would have jereys and stickers with their logo. If you ran them and you were on "the team", you would recieve a discount on parts/acc., free tire mouting, etc. Usually it was 10% off for C class, 15% off for B, and 20% for A. Team price on a bike purchase. The good old days!

I'm pretty lucky , have a couple friends who own an Austrian shop that stocks a ton of stuff, everyone rides or races that works there and does great pricing for people who buy bikes ,also they have great OTD prices for bikes and no taxes

That shop must be in New Hampshire, the "Live free or die" state. They have no sales tax and  businesses in local states are never to happy about it. People just road trip to N.H. to save big $.

I always thought it was weird that local dealers don't show up to hare scrambles or enduros with a trailer full of parts. There's 200-400 people racing at most races and there's always someone who needs something. A well organized parts trailer where people can see the parts are likely to sell pretty well I'd think.

I've been at the parts counter for most of 40 years and the game has changed dramatically. Mainly since 2008. I see the margins in new bikes and basically tell my owners to quit ordering them. If someone wants it, dealer transfer it. By the time a bike has sold, After sitting there collecting interest from he floor plan, There isn't any money left to be made. On the parts side. I try to stock the important stuff but like I said in another thread, I'm not gonna line the walls with $30,000 in moto gear, Just to discount it all at the end of the year and eat another loss. Feel free to hit me up if you'd like some real #'s of what bikes cost. After freight, I think we make $29 on a pw 50

Yes sir, I 100% agree with what you are saying. Owning a power sports store is a tough deal. I think we are going to lose a bunch in the next few years

I had always heard and was told the little bikes like the PW50 and CRF50 only had a $100 gross profit if sold at full MSRP. And big bikes don’t have near the profit margin most people think.

The OEM's won't raise the list price, so they add a surcharge to the dealer cost and it takes the profit from the dealer. A pw50 sold at list price with no fee's profit is $49.
