Come on guys...anyone who's been around for more than a couple of weeks knows that Chad was raised under the adage "2nd place is 1st loser"....Dude has broken his balls battleing two of the baddest mx riders of all time (RS and JS). Ask Kevin Windham what that feels like. He finally got his turn at the head of the table and what I saw as the maturity (perspective) that goes with it. He is now the elder statesman of American moto and has been a very mature and thoughtful rep...IMO. He's had some sour luck and he's down on himself more than anyone else...like in the past. Re-focus...and get on it. As far as his comments...he's got inside knowledge and history that few others have...I just assumed his statement was aimed at someone "in on" what he was refering to.

I bet if Everts really wanted to, he could of ridden SX. The guy is smooth and knows how to ride a motorcycle IMO. Maybe he is happy with his career as is. He didn't have to move to America, or fly back and forth all the time. I bet he made good money as well. Plus, if I recall he beat Bubba, straight up, as straight up as it can be. Don't spew any BS that Bubba was riding for the team either. Everts schooled him on that day on that track.

Look at Juha Salminen. He came over in the GNCC series, kicked the living shit out of everyone for two years then went home. What did he still have to prove at that point? I think I read that he just wanted to be in his home country.

As a fan of motorcycling, I like all the series and all the riders. I don't care where a guy is from, if he can ride, he can ride. Juha from Finland, Knigher from Isle of Man, Townley from NZ, Pourcel from France, all certified badass dudes on a dirtbike. Carmichael from FLA as well.

On another note, I think we have better MX tracks here in the US. I think the old school GP tracks were pretty cool, but these new venues to me just look kind of boring and all the same. They seem to lack personality.

He'got a half point...
Roczen can't wait to ride in the US. Musquin would like to go. Everts had his period he would like to go. Desalle would like to go. ....

So the first part Reed said is right. The second part however. I don't know what he's talking about ... . Maybe because there aren't much good riders in the GP's? He right about that.

Maybe if he hadn't made his comments so blunt, he wouldn't offend people over here.

Would Chad have got a ride in AMA if he hadn't of competed in the gps? Doubt it.

Chad could have gotten a ride wherever he wanted at that age. He had the drive and just enough of a rebellious nature to do what he wanted.

M-M...don't think Chad meant it the way it sounded. You know he wears his heart on his sleeve. Give him a day or two to quit being mad at himself and he will be ok. I haven't seen anyone comment on him getting his ears lowered yet. Makes his earrings look even bigger.

True or not, theres no doubt he's just alienated himself from a whole heap of fans around the world with that comment.

jamma...don't make a knee jerk reaction...as much as Chad loves the Yankee dollar...he's an Aussie through and through. He's not the only person who's said something that was mis-interpreted. Hold yer opinion till he explains the comment. I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt till he says he stands by exactly what he said and tells us to F-off.

I dont necessarily think any less of the him, but I cant speak for others who will no doubt take what he said literally.

His opinion doesn't really matter to me, he chose to race in the US a long time ago so its always been obvious which series/ racing/lifestyle he prefers. But as a seasoned professional, admired by fans across the globe, I expected more from the him.

Again......I think some guys are reading into this wrong way. I don't think Chad actually thinks the GP series sucks....he was just blunt about the way he said it. He could have spoken a little more softly , but in his mind he likes the USA series better.

A person can choose which one he likes better right? There may be other riders out there that think differently than he does. There may be some guys here in the states who really miss the GP's , and some racers over in the GP series maybe can't wait to get over here.

I always thought the GP series was really cool because you get to travel the globe racing , and see different cultures and so forth. But I think a lot of the riders know deep down inside that ( for right now ) the USA nationals are a little faster. More interesting??....maybe not , but a think they are a little faster.

Reed wasn't talking about the riders, he was talking about the GPs themselves. In an interview before the USGP, he was talking about why he wouldn't be at Glen Helen, and most of it had to do with how the GPs are run (no purse money, etc.). In past interviews he's had nothing but good things to say about the GP riders.

I can see where people would get offended with that statement.

I can also see where Chad isn't saying that about Europe so much as just the way the Organizer treats the riders by gouging them for entry and not having prize money.

Reed is a bad ass. With his insight of both series, he can say whatever he wants. Starting to become a huge 22 fan. So glad he speaks his mind regardless if it isn't going to make everyone happy. When it comes to dirtbike racing, Reed has basically done it all. He is a smart guy and if he says something there is probably some truth to it. I sure hope he sticks around here and races a while longer! He will be missed when he is gone. Even all of the haters will miss him!

no, because... my opinion , nor your opinion , means nada... ask "them" why they want to come here?... ask them, quit telling us why, you and I don't count... However, they don't always have to be provoked, now do they?...

I don't believe I've ever heard any fan anywhere speak positively of the effect Luongo has had on the GPs. Why is he so tremendously unpopular...because he makes such great decisions that benefit the fans, the riders, the factories AND himself? Or is it because time and again he makes decisions that so transparently benefit himself only and everyone else can F off.?

I think Reed has earned the right to speak his mind through his blood, sweat, and tears (as well as victories.) If that is what he thinks, so be it. It's his opinion. I'll tell you what though, if Europe and the GPs were as great as the fans try to say they are, virtually all of top talent would NOT be leaving as fast as they can get a U.S. ride.

Yup

Riders are running not walking away from the GP's and they (Youthstream) are chasing them here (USA) it's almost like some sick sort of spousal abuse where the Husband chases his wife from Country to Country trying to make her come back.

Nobody disputes that the US offers more opportunities than Europe if you are a professional SX-MX athlete. However, between this truth and Chad's words there is a big difference; Reed missed a chance to behave like a champion.

You should have heard what Skippy said about mentally retarded homeless puppies.

Now you know why there was a falling out with him and The Sand Manual brand of Missionary Position Indians...
