What's your budget? The older CRFs had all kinds of valve seat issues. I'd stay away from that one. We have many race hours on 125s and went to a 22 FC250 this year. It is among the lightest of the 4t 250s (232 wet) and when he rides it like he did his 125s (216 wet) it is very fast. IMHO if you are young, fast, and lighter the Austrian 250s are easiest to transition to due to the smaller weight difference. With the used bike market full you should be able to find a decent 20-22 at a solid price.

I was thinking the same thing about the older CRF250R.   Fun bike to ride, tough bike to own with high hours.

Subliminal messages or just 20+ years of thumper brainwashing?

Too bad I'm not an optometrist.

I'd have an eye chart with C and R right next to each other and everyone who read "C R F" when looking at it would get a prescription for the most expensive glasses I could provide. 😆

Right now I have a 22 yz125. My brother recently got a new kx250f and man it's so much easier to ride.  I am not sure if its more power or 4t linearness I want. There is a 07 cr250r that I should be able to get for 1,500 it needs a top end but, I feel like I'd be downgrading bikes even though it's the exact same technology and I'm kind of done jetting. Or find a 22-24 crf250r. If I go out and buy a new bike after a month or 2 I think I'll just want a 125 again. I ride woods that are pretty fast and mx.

What would you do/have you done?

False premise.

There is no "upgrading" from a 125, especially a recent YZ.

There are only heavier, more complicated and more expensive options.

None are more fun.

I have all of these variations in the shop and the YZ and CR125s are, without a doubt, the most fun to ride of them all.

And since no one is paying me to ride, fun is what it's all about. 👍

Need a little more context besides riding "woods that are pretty fast and mx": Height, weight, ability, mechanical aptitude to save that smokin' deal of an 07' CR250R...

I’d be delighted if you’d buy me some new glasses!

I'm certain you would. 😃

And it looks like you need them... 'cause I only said I'd write a scrip for them. 😄

After seeing some of the posts on this thread, I think I have an idea as to why so many threads on Vital go off the rails! 😆

I have both. Kx250f and a 125. I find myself reaching for the 125 far more than the 250f. For me the 125 is more fun than the 250f. If I wouldn’t lose my ass on the 250f it would probably be sold by now.

About the only time I prefer the 250f is when I’m riding woods, or at a race.

Haha, I took getting me a prescription to be what I do when I get a prescription for my kids - I go get their prescription for them as in pay for it and give it to them. You did say get, not write. 🤣🤣🤣🤣.

But yeah, point taken. I wonder how often people argue just because they misread something? Probably a lot.

Someone offered to trade for a 21 kx450 it’s awful tempting. I’ve ridden a 450 in the wood before but the suspension was to soft felt like I couldn’t turn.
