Gave him a reason to use the left lever again--something that everyone used to use.

could KTM take over the moto scene the way they have taken over off road?

it would be harder: the japanese care about moto ...not so much about off road. the big 4 crank out overweight unraceable pigs based 450cc moto bikes where ktm has cut the crap and just focused on building serious race bikes.

more power to KTM

I keep seeing that posted, KTM takes over off road. But I still see other brands winning or more of them in the top 10 than the KTM.

He rode faster when his shifter broke in 3rd gear than before, What does that tell you, keep your bike in a gear higher that what you think and you can ride faster? things that make you go hmmmm

So he was able to clear that step up in 3rd gear. That's a pretty much tapped out in 5th gear jump on my stock CRF 450. KTM must make a fast bike. Hard to believe Mike couldn't get away from him while he was stuck in one gear but when he had all his gears he caught him. Hmmmmmmm. Maybe Rokon should make a comeback..........sans the lawn mower pullstart.Tongue

On the world scene, they are quite dominant - WEC, ISDE, GNCC, Extreme events etc.

I think they could easily achieve the same level of success in US moto, if/when they try.

They're very popular here in England.

If you ride enduro, you will probably ride a KTM, they pretty much have the whole youth racing scene locked down from 65cc - 125cc & I'll bet that the 350 becomes the bike of choice for most racers in the very near future.

I've heard that he came a little short when he jumped it in 3rd gear.

5th gear tapped?

I have to respectfully disagree with that one. Those guys were on the brakes hard at the bottom of the hill before the first jump.

Makes you wonder what the heck do you need 5 gears for? 2-3 gears would be more than enough even for pros.

All I know is,when we come down the hill we get into 5th gear. The first jump was measured(not by me) at 120 ft.(I kinda doubt that) Yes,we tap the brake in the air at times to get the nose down to make a smooth landing on the first double. Then it's on the gas hard with a slight blip at the top. I haven't had the chance to do the second big step up since they always block it off for us mortals, but we may possibly run it this Saturday at REM. Watching Dubach,King, and even "The Chicken" when they jumped it in the vet race, they were moving at top speed and I never saw them shift down from top gear. But yes, there is a blip at the very top of the jump At any rate,3rd gear on a 350 must be singin'.Laughing

And I just keep thinking,if I'm at a race and the guy I dice with since we are very close in speed, loses all gears but third,it's illogical that he could stay with me for 2 laps if my bike is in good working order.Just sounds odd, that's all. No conspiracy theory.Just sayin'.

Yea, I agree they were moving pretty fast through there, I happened to be standing right at the takeoff of the first jump, on the parking lot side during part of the moto, not sure when the shifter came off. But, I did notice Cairoli revving the shit of out that thing coming down the hill, then braking hard, and back on the gas over the two jumps. I also noticed Mikey panic revving over the first one too... Maybe he was in too tall a gear and over jumping! Grinning

It is hard to believe the AC could win in 3rd gear, but then the only one to catch those guys at all was Townley, until he "fell".

Actually his lap times were about three to four seconds per lap slower after he lost the lever on lap 11, right on through to the end of the race. But don't let the facts get in the way!

The GH track was so fast that being stuck in third left him looking for more gears in many places...I doubt he uses second gear in more than a couple of turns out there anyway.
