It's Monday morning and we are all tired after a long Fri, Sat and Sun. The good news is that Michael's speed was very good in both motos. The bad news is that Michael had two mechanical DNFs. On Saturday Michael qualified 10th in timed practice. During the qualifying race he got landed on while working his way up into 9th. He came from 28th back to 19th where he qualified. In Moto 1 he spun on the start and went around the first corner in second to last position and started a very impressive move towards the front. He had just passed Paulin and was moving into the top ten when his bike started sputtering. He thought the fuel was boiling or the ignition was going bad. He pulled into the pits and the team changed the black box. One more lap and the condition was still there. Back to the pits and a DNF for moto 1. In between motos the team changed fuel and insulated the tank from the engine with heat tape. Michael started the second moto from the outside and it worked out somewhat better getting a mid pack start. He was ridding really well and making a lot of passes the last of which was Roczen. Michael made that pass cleanly when the bike started sputtering again. The team and Michael were all very disappointed but at the same time pleased to know that Michael has the speed to run with the top GP riders. The other good news is that Bud Racing has hired Michael for the rest of the season! Michael flies back to France today where he'll prepare for the French GP this weekend. My wife and I are very proud of Michael and know that once the bike issues are sorted out he'll be a top contender. Thank you all for your support.

Sounds like this might have been one ocasion where it was better to show speed than results. Glad to here he got hired. Hope he likes hard pack though. France is almost the complete opposite of GH! good luck at the weekend

Hope he makes it here and welcome, it takes a courageous young man and strong support from friends and family to leave the comfort zone of the USA and attempt the step up to World class racing, the circus will be good for him

Me, not so much? Well, uhm, duh! But I would never brag on my son like he was a god on every mx board on the internet. He just cuts and pastes the same thing all over the place. It's not like his son is Ken Roczen or Eli Tomac! I wish him well, and he is a good rider, but come on, let it happen on it's own. You don't see Travis Baker or Zach Osborne's dads pumping their sons do you?

Just as an FYI, Zach told me that he posts in here on occasion. But he likes to keep a fairly low profile.

Great event yesterday.......it was a missed opportunity by US fans to see some great racing.

Hmmm??....I dunno man , I rather enjoy when family members come in here and share their stories on the weekends race. Why wouldn't any of us? And of course he's going to talk up his son.......the kid friggin' rips!

Forums can generally be full of a lot of nonsense half the time so its allways nice to hear updates from riders or their dads on how they've been getting on. We're all moto geeks here and a bit of inside info on how things went down is allways good.

Hey Rick, I'd rather have fewer posts and be more low profile myself, rather than playing sheriff. If people would come in and post more intelligently, and act like they actually like the sport, instead of whining, crying, or looking for a fight, I could do that more.

It was good to see you and Ricky, and you're right. There were a whole bunch of fans who blew a good opportunity.

Yep...and IF the family member/Dad does act poorly, he will get called out. Those types don't stick around long.

Those like DL are a welcomed IMO...it IS a family sport. Guys like DL and Michael are part of the Vital extended family.

Sorry.. you're on the wrong side of the stick on this one.

It wasn't bragging or touting his son is a "god" by no means. Just a simple statement/overview of what Michael's event was.

I enjoyed reading the post and was glad for the information.

Now.. if he was stating that Michael is going to win, was the best.. blah blah blah.. or "believe the hype" type of stuff, (which is odd, since he trains at Alessi's camp, glad that didn't rub off here!) then I think you'd get more agree with your point.

Hey, I love the sport, that's why I started posting. It is a family sport and that's fine. I'm just kinda tired of seeing DL post his stuff all over every board I go to. His stuff is EVERYWHERE, not just on this board. It's just getting old. It's just my opinion.

I can't help reading it! It's everywhere! He pastes this stuff on all of the boards! All I'm saying is it would be cool to keep a little lower profile like the Bakers maybe? Maybe not? I guess I'm wrong on this one, and I'll man up and say I'm wrong. Sorry.

Dude, don't quench the excitement of a family member of a racer. We are proud of our family when they do something good. We stop posting on the boards when guys like you
rain on our parade. I hope you have a better day, and congratulations to the Lieb family on your weekend. Though the results may not have been what you wanted, the speed he
showed this weekend certainly had its rewards. Good luck on the GP trail.

Thank You very much for the kind words about my son. If I come across that way, I don't mean to. I sure wish I could ride though...sometimes I do in my dreams.
