Rev Up for the GP's?? No, WTF??

Edited Date/Time 1/24/2012 1:33pm
I was reading Andy Boyer's REV up on racer X ..I'm all for a story about the effects of riding in the heat during an off weekend and all but to me this is far from an off weekend . Andy at least this isn't an off weekend to a MX fan like myself. In the immortal words of RC and now RD I'm Super Pumped!! It's Memorial Day weekend with a USGP at fckin Glen Helen baby. If that's not enough to get this weeks REV up I'm ashamed to be a MX fan. Andy doesn't mention one word about the US fckin GP?? Not a hint there's something going on in the racing world in an article dedicated to pump mx fans up for a race weekend. This weekend is HUGE. What the hell happened to patriotic spirit in the world of MX.. The Euros are coming!! The Euros are coming!!

I love AMA mx just as much as I love the GP's so don't get me wrong. It's just we seldom get a chance to see the best from all over the world race a track we all know and love and get a chance to possibly go to this race on home soil and wave our Flag. Guys we are just a piece of the world of MX. All be it a fast piece of the world but just a piece none the less. There's a whole world of brilliantly fast riders from every part of this globe. We have quite a few foreigners in our own series but there's plenty more where those guys came from. We as Americans somehow think the world of talent stops at our borders. lol. Sure there are only a handful of Americans in the race but who gives a fck really. There's a gate full of some fast ass mother fuckers in the gate that sadly most of you have never seen before. 1/2 my favorite riders are GP riders but you'll be damn sure at the USGP this weekend I'll be rooting red white and blue. USA!! To me that's why the GP's are so popular is the patriotic spirit that goes with the great races and fans. Sure the guys are trying to make a living but patriotic pride adds bonus for winning to those guys.

A rider that wins GP's is not only a race winner he's also a national MX hero. It used to be the same here as well. Well at least before money happened. If you as an American won a USGP back in the day and still to this day for some of them you were/are a American MX hero. Shit they're making movies about those guys at those races to this day.

I put 90% of the blame on the riders for the lack of energy in the air for this USGP. In the old days our riders would be lined up for a mile trying to get into the GP because they wanted to race it so bad and prove USA was the best. It wasn't a question of if the Americans would race it was how many and who. With that kind of rider interest fan interest sky rocketed right along with it and with all that respect for the riders and for the sport as a whole grows. Those USGP's back then grew the sport 2000% each time we had one. It wouldn't obviously have quite the impact it had back then but think about how big this would be if there was at least the AMA's top 10 in 450's and top 10 250's. There would be so much interest and national pride that it would for sure shine well on the sport and bring in a great amount of new fans.

To the American riders that are racing the USGP I would like to say thank you, good luck and

You're living in the past with your idea that winning a GP is important. Cool, yes, important, not so much.

If there were a lot of AMA National riders attending, then maybe there would have been some Rev about it. If it were scheduled the week AFTER the Nationals you probably would have seen some Rev about it. However, it is to big of a risk for the US Teams and riders to get injured. We are talking GH here. Not the safest or smoothest track, you know??

Maybe next year!!

OK guys last I checked most of the US's problems are with Iraq, Iran, N. Korea, and Pakistan. Well at least that's what's reported in the news. And last I checked there wasn't any of those countries represented in the GP's. Although it would be funny if Achbal Kareem Husain was leading the Mx1 Class and Kim Jong Khan was smoking the mx2 class.

Note: Yes I had to use google to come up w/a Arab name and a N. Korean name.

Hope GL has fun and does good.

Not the first time Bowyer proves ignorant when it comes to Gp's.

But, his Rev up's are mostly enjoyable to read. Maybe, he can only talk in those pieces about the AMA series?

It's a conflict of interest if I've ever seen one.

The relationship of RX with the outdoors would make it stupid for them to hype another series. Not sayin' it's a bad thing, just unusual...

Yep. Dan is looking in the wrong rag for any USGP praise. Is RacerX sending anyone to cover the race?

Awesome post!
For the sake of the USGP for the next five years, don´t you think it would be the best if the GP riders dominated? I´m not going to predict anything or start a GPvsAMA deal here. I´m just thinking out loud here regarding what would make the race "important" to Americans in the future.
What do you reckon?

Watch out the no. 44 in the veterans class. Mehrdad however lives in Belgium and has been racing many years now in the amateur federations.

DC can say what he wants about how he hopes it does well and he wishes the best for Glen Helen. We all know its a lie, he hopes this fails on an epic level. His competetor is having a race on his turf, he has to be pissed. Not his race, so whats in it for him to hype this race?

I think yes if MA gets beat I think it would raise interest some. At least it should. I'm sure racers and fans would not like hearing "see we kicked your ass in your back yard". I think if it does stay here for 5 straight years like it's supposed to for one reason or another fan and rider interest alike would grow through the years.

I'd say that mr. "mx is in good hands"' competitor is GH right now and has to be pissed at them ... and at the guy who wrote a nice enlighting story last weekend about how he was trying to fool GH. Now that was cool stuff and real journalism. The MX press seems to lack of any sort of spine.

Well, the same day as the RevUp people are bitching about there's an RX Films posted interviews with several GP riders and Ryno, different aspects of the event have been covered, the GP got a lot of attention last week during the day at Hangtown.

The notion that Andy didn't write about the GP because RX wants its minimized is nuts.

I think the notion that Andy wouldn't know or care enough about the GP's to make that his column isn't nuts, and there's no problem if that's the case.

There's plenty at MXLarge if you need more of a fix. And for once it reads lucid, at least if you read it after the MXA stuff.

That´s what I was thinking too. If that can make the event popular and make the others enter next year, then I´d like to see the Americans get waxed this weekend. When the entry list is filled with Americans next year - I just want to see a good race regardless of who wins

Isn't Bowyer the guy who said "Hey Christophe we run two motos here" when he was having those stomach issues last year?

Why is specifically Andy Bowyer getting the crucifixion for this again?

I don't recall him mentioning in any of his previous columns that he was attending.

You need to listen to Matthes show when Giuseppe Luongo called in. He wants to do some pretty weird things with his Youth Stream

Grendel. My rant was more about the feelings towards the GP as a whole. Andy's REV up article just sparked the rant. Nothing personal against Andy.
