Thunder Valley not Under the Lights This Year???

I was just looking over the daily schedule of events for this years race and noticed that it looks like they have canned the idea of night motocross???

Was there ever any announcement about this? (I searched the forum and didn't find anything) I haven't read anything about why they decided to go back to normal.

I have to say that being there with and without the lights, I'd rather beat the heat and watch it in the day time.

I really enjoyed the night race also... Maybe I'll just skip the National and save the money for the MXDN.

I like the night idea, but I figured this would happen. Too many lighting changes for the riders. 1st the practice in the daytime, then have thier 1st motos at dusk and then 2nd motos in the dark. You need to either have it all during the day or all at night.

For the spectator the evening/night racing with the lights and time of day can be more spectator friendly..bringing out more fans than would have not attended on a hot summer day...

For the riders the racing under the lights is a different view. I know they made several adjustments to make sure all parts were lit up enough to satisfy most riders.

I went to the first night race and haven't gone back since. II will have to go this year I suppose. The night race was BS. IMO.

I went to that race last year and here are some thoughts:

That track has amazing dirt and a really cool layout. It's built on the side of a hill and uses natural elevation and man made stuff.

The track is a little on the small side for a national track. It's long but kinda tight.

Practice started at like 12 or 12:30 and racing started at night. It was a very long day it felt like to me.

And lastly, with the race being at night, they groomed the track after practice and it was a freeway all night. There was not much passing at all.

Man that sucks! I loved the Colorado night race! I liked it being at night so much more than during the daytime!

I'm still going to the National and MXDN but with it was at night.

My buddy told me he hated it, way to many blind spots, some corners or sections you were entering blind. That's a first hand view point and I'd assume others would have had the same problem as him.

What are ya'll complaining about? Heat? In Colorado? God intended motocross to be run during the day and in the heat. Colorado barely gets warm during the day, you fans can handle it.

Tedesco didn't seem to have many problems with the track last year.

The only truly NIGHT moto was the final one (can't remember if it was 250 or 450 for that one). The 1st moto of the 2nd set was at like dusk, the final one was pretty much dark.

Having said that, that really sux it won't be at night this year. That's the only thing that set those pics apart from the rest of the rounds and they were always a hot commodity.

Haha, right on that one. If anybody is gonna bitch about heat, it should be the Freestone spectators. I'm about 50 miles nothwest of Freestone and it's 94 right now, maybe we can get past the century mark next weekEvil .

What do you mean a little small?. Lap times are always 2:15 to 2:20 every year so i'm just curious what's small about it. I'm going to the des nations so I'm wondering.

I ride Thunder Valley and used to ride Glen Helen, in comparison TV is a bit narrower then GH in places. There are other tracks that are narrow in sections as well, the back section at Washougal comes to mind. I went to the first night race herre but missed last year as my son was due within days of the race. I am bummed as it was sweet to watch at night and nice to watch after it cools down a bit. From a fitness standpoint here at 5300 feet the altitude is worse than the heat by a long shot.

Ya, it's long but it is tight. The actual area that the track takes up is not that big. ( at least it seems that way) from what I remember it seems like you could fit that whole track on about half of the area that Washougal takes up.

But it looks like a reall really fun track to ride.

The best spot for spectating is up on the big grass hill above the track, you can see everything.
