I love the start of a race.

I love watching it, and I love being in the middle of it.

It's part of what makes the sport unique and it wouldn't be the same without it.

The standing start out of the gate is the best. Just like F1 starts (instead of the stupid rolling starts that every other auto race uses) Don't fuck with it.

Go back to 40 minute moto's if you are worrying that if a fast guy gets a bad start he takes too long to get to the front.

Man up and go for it. If they are only going to show 1 moto on TV, might as well make it fill the hour with substance, instead of 35 minutes of racing and 25 minutes of bullshit.

Speaking of which, what's with the highlights of the 2nd moto coming on right after the checkers fall on the 2nd moto? Are you young guys that ADD?

Reverse grid positions for the 2nd moto's, or maybe the grid should be determined by reversing the results of the first race?

Or how about the 'Monster Energy 5 Minute Melee of Madness'? ...about half way through each race the marshals wave Gay Pride flags to signify a pre-determined period of time in which the fastest lap earns an extra point or two.

Or in hindsight, maybe just keep it like it is. I like the simplicity of MX. The rules and aims are simple, its racing in its purest form which is why I love it.

For the average fan I think the two moto format must seem weird and long. I know the hardcore fans would hate it, but if they went to one moto they might gain some more fans.

OK, seriously WTF??!!

We just sat through another painful Stupidcross season and we get through all of ONE glorious MOTOCROSS race, and now we have to change it.

Sometimes it's good just to be happy with what you still have.

I'm Jus' Sayin

P.S. There is a Mufuckin GP race in Socal this weekend too!!!!

No $hit... Saturday's race was great and the racing will only get better as championship battles begin. Motocross is GREAT the way it is!

As far as growing the sport. motocross is on it's way. We have something like 5 Live rounds on TV, 2 more same day coverage and the other 5 next day coverage. That is awesome. Not to mention live first round moto's (for free) on the internet all season long!

BTW Outsider... I agree with your comment about having to attend at least one round of MX before you are allowed to post on vital.

They should remove the track and just do starts over and over.

Oh wait, that's drag racing.

I think that there is nothing wrong with the racing. We should look at add points for fastest qualifier or most laps led or leading a lap or fastest race lap. then things would be getting hard to follow like NASCAR. Seriously, can you tell me how many points you get for a race win in nascar? Its crazy

the only changes that should be made are in how its shown on TV. I actually think they did really good for Hangtown. Talking about the tracks and junk.

One thing they do in road racing that they should do in MX and SX is to give sections times. So much changes in one lap it would be good to see how much times is being made up in sections.

They HAVE to make it a 2hr show so they can show both motos. I know they want to make it user friendly and get it in a 1hr package, but you got to show the whole race how it was meant to be shows. Football doesn't have a preview show for the first half. World Superbike breaks each race into it's own hour show. I am sure Speed can move Pass Time one hour back.

Us diehards might have to get screwed and have TV focus on the premier class (450). I think it just confuses the casual viewer. Even though the best racing is in the 250 class right now for the sport to grow the focus needs to be more on the big boys. The support classes in MotoGP and WSBK are basically an after thought, and most of the production going into.

Show MX technology, and not that crap they did a few years ago where they had J-Bone show different sprockets or gas coolers and look all goofy. Maybe show how they get a stock bike transformed to a MX pro bike. Make it a more pre produce segment. Sh|t ESPN has 3D graphics for its new show on MMA and no one cares about MMA. Its on at like 3am. Heck, show the Joe Gibbs race shop more to draw in the NASCAR goon demographic.

I actually think they are heading in the right direction with what they got going on right now. I enjoyed the round 1 show.

Quiet the bikes down more so you don't feel like your head has been used for MLB batting practice and you can actually carry on conversations with fellow spectators about how good the racing is.

250 TWO STROKES allowed in the 250 class.

Minimum and maximum lentghs of the start straight. Leave the rest of the start like it is.

Timed qualifying sucks. Race to qualify, INCLUDING the top ten in points.

35 or 40 minutes + 2 laps for both classes.

A $500 fine due on the spot with no appeal for anybody calling the 250 class "the lites" and the 450 class "the Motocross" class.

A certain number of prime pit spots being awarded to privateers by lottery each event.

Do a package deal to get a great price on those little helmet cams that a lot of amatuer riders use now and put them on every rider that qualifies.

Then they are all turned in and reviewed for events that do not have same day coverage.

Can you imagine the footage you would get of a come from behind ride or a privateer's battle for 20th to earn their first point?

use the stuff that doesn't make the weekly show as a bonus in the series highlight dvd.

Finally,

Quit bitching about live coverage experiencing a few bugs now and than.

Instead, budget for a trip to the closest outdoor national.

Drag some friends along to introduce them to REAL LIVE Motocross.

Crappy servers don't affect the FM broadcast AT THE track.

The season is to short. Make it 16 rounds like the GP's.

Get the sports networks to post or discuss the race results like they do other motorsports.

Film the events with the proper camera angles and placement to convey the height and distance of the jumps and hills. Watching mx on tv looks boring to those that don't race and know what it takes to perform at that level.

I think after every lap they should have to stop in the pits and chug a beer. It worked on Revenge of the Nerds.

Thor, Fox ,MSR, O'Neal, etc. could design race gear that will take the sport of MX to the next level.

I love the 2 moto format. I think it's great and it makes it so much more exciting to watch. Basically you get to watch 2 different races. That I hope they never change.

I think the starts is just the way moto is-I was just kicking around some ideas there. Lap times have become so close these days that a bad start is really hard to come back from. That's why i was trying to think of something that would make up for that.

I think the TV coverage needs to get more professional. Also, live TV coverage for both moto's and more commentary before and during race. I think that may eventually come. The TV package has gotten much better over the years. Nascar gets 4hours on FOX surely we can get live TV coverage on freakin Speed network.

I think the Nascar model is a good one to follow as far as coverage. The FOX broadcast of Nascar rivals that of NFL-it's really good. I actually started watching Nascar for the first time this year and I'm addicted to it. Never even gave it a chance before. It's just great coverage and I really didn't know anything about it. After a few races I was hooked and knew the whole field and all the rules, etc.

I'm not sure as far as the racing goes. A few things TV wise... I'd like a PIP of the race during commercials and during the rider profile interview things. Also when they cut away and do the PIP thing as is... 50% of the screen is a floating cloud back drop with negative lighting... I would like the actual video to cover all that up because really, it serves no purpose.

LeMans style starts. Bikes at the gate , dead engine, riders 10 yards away. Starter pistol fires, riders run to the bikes. Kick, kick, kick. This would help keep traffic in the first turn down to a minimum.

Bring out a Pace bike, like a Puch moped, or maybe a Stunter 50, every three laps to bunch the field back up. Restrictor plates. Full course yellow two laps from the end.

Maybe there are too many guys on the gate. Could do like Arenacross-a front and back row. Fast guys up front-slower guys in the back. Might help also. You watch the start and the slower guys always check up and try and find a good line after the top guys get out front because they know they are not going to get a good start or be able to run the pace.

Honestly I don't know if there is really any true alternatives to a starting gate like we have now but doesn't hurt to kick around some ideas.
Other way around let the slow guys start in front let the privateers start in fron even the field even more and let the fast guys come through and win then the best rider would really win...

Here we go again. The semi-annual flame war of change versus tradition.

#1 It must be TV friendly. That's going to require a change in format.

#2 Dumb it down. i.e. no more "We need to get the calculators out to see who's actually going to win!".

#3 Do a lot of connect the dots explanations of the physical demands of racing a moto. Not many ordinary people can relate to a double, triple, double jump combo. Every weekend warrior can relate to "200 beats per minute for 35 minutes.". Drive that home again and again.

#4 (actually #1) Keep your stars out of the infirmary and performing.
