I am currently headed to the east coast from Northern California. Planning on hitting Budds Creek on Saturday. Anything i should know about the area and getting to that facility? I’ll be staying in Virginia. Also, any suggestions about food or other activities in the area would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Where in VA? Its a 2 lane road in and out so come early and stay late while traffic thins out
I always hit Captain Leanords crab house in Mechanicsville for some blue crabs not far from the track every time I go.
We are thinking about driving up tomorrow.
Someone just posted a bit ago asking about things to do in the area. I can’t find it in the search but it did have good info! Enjoy.
Arlington area. We are going to spend some time in DC. This is first trip to the east coast.
Oh ok. I did not do a search. Didn’t have enough time. Had to board connecting flight. I’ll search it up and go from there. Thanks!

Leonardtown is about 15 min. south and they’ve cleaned it up a bit. Some okay pubs, restaurants, nothing fancy. Solomons Island is okay too, but it’s another 20 mins after that. If you’re staying in Arlington I’m guessing you’re heading north after the race, nothing good between Budds and there…
Steer clear of Baltimore whatever you do.
My wife wants us to head up so we can get some steamed MD crabs and we will be staying at a RV park in Colonial Beach VA about 45 minutes from Budds.
Get ready for history overload from the DC Smithsonian museums . You could easily spend a week there and not see everything. Hotels down there aren’t that bad either.
I sure miss going to Hammerjacks in Baltimore.
Does anyone know if bicycles are aloud with general admission?
We're driving our Motorhome back from Maine pulling our jeep, hitting the race on the way back. hoping parking won't be an issue.
I went for the first time a couple years ago so I'm not the most experienced but we sat on the hill by the start right after the first turn. Nice shady hill to sit on with a good view of the start and finish. I found it to be a good home base, my wife sat there comfortably while I wandered the track most races. I had to watch at least one race at Henry Hill.
Standard county roads coming in so be prepared for traffic and we parked at a random lot across from the track.
Get there early. We found a spot in the trees in the middle of the track kind of by Henrys hill. You can see 90% of the track, but we walked all around and took it all in. The amature sx on Friday night sounds cool but it rd one of the fall series we signed up to do so we will not be attending.
I want to do the amateur SX but I’m coming from 3 hours away and I don’t know what to do with my bike until Sunday. I don’t feel like stressing about it getting stolen or driving 3 hours back home to put my bike in the garage and drive all the way back
Been there a few times when getting out and heading north was a slow crawl, but that was a while ago.
The (multiple) home owners across the street from entrance will sell parking spots for $20. You'll appreciate it in the afternoon. Watch out for the Amish. Best spectating spot is bottom of Henry Hill. The people there will slightly move to see start side of track, then shift to see the leaders come around to the other side. 90% track viewability from there.
..Oh.. and the humidity doesn't leave the valley/track. H20!!!
I moved from Socal to Maryland a decade ago, and Budds is now my local track! Great track. The weather has cooled down to normal summer heat vs the crazy heat wave we just went through. Should be a great weekend to be there! As far as stuff to do, the track is kinda out of the way of anything worth while. You are about an hour to DC, perhaps 1.5 hours to Annapolis where there is tons to do, eat, and see. So you might have to drive a bit. But I'd highly recommend finding a crab house! Crabs are great here. Cantlers or The Point here in Annapolis.
We did some of DC today. I feel it’s gonna take more than a day. Wife wants to go to Annapolis so I think that’s tomorrow’s plan.
Thanks for the replies everyone! I’m currently staying in Edgewood, MD. DC was very interesting and once I got the public transportation figured out, it was a breeze. Looking forward the race Saturday!
