I guess I don't understand. What's the problem? Why cant people show up in a pick-up?
I don't see why an average plumber cant race?
Just because they were only a few bigger rigs 30 years ago verses ALOT of them now doesn't change anything... It just means more people have money, and/or more people are spending more than they probably should.
This has ZERO affect on the sports affordability. Go buy a $3,500. 2 stroke, load it up in the back of your 15 year old f-150, pay you $10.. gate and $45. entry and have at it.
Nobody is forcing anyone here...
What we see at the races is the same as our country, a sense of entitlement and not being able to do something unless they can do it like the pro's or the YouTubers.
No one is to blame here. These are personal choices.
Not sure why this would be downvoted...? Maybe just another personal choice to downvote an internet persona that they generally don't like?
I don't care what your posting history is, I think you are spot on here Grape.
FYI: Average Plumber salary info for the USA midwest according to ChatGPT
In the Midwest region of the United States, the salary range for plumbers tends to be slightly lower than in coastal or high-cost-of-living areas, but it can still be quite competitive. Here's a general breakdown:
Entry-Level Plumber: $30,000 to $40,000 per year.
Mid-Level Plumber: $40,000 to $60,000 per year.
Experienced/Journeyman Plumber: $60,000 to $75,000 per year.
Master Plumber: $75,000 to $90,000 per year, potentially higher if they run their own business or have specialized skills.
Factors like the specific state, urban versus rural location, and demand for plumbing services can influence these numbers. For instance, plumbers in cities like Chicago or Minneapolis might earn more than those in more rural areas of the Midwest.
Hey what's wrong with my posting history?! lol
There is a dedicated faction that likes to get up in arms over the latest Cooksey or Ryno click bait, and when the reality of the situation is pointed out they seem to get upset. You either completely agree with them, or you are "glazing" DC. There is no in between apparently.
How long is your Toter?
Motocross is indeed expensive. However, none of us has to do it; we do it as a hobby. Except for a very limited few, nobody at Loretta's is going to make money doing this sport. Thus, enjoy it for what it is: fun.
I down voted it because there is always the same few guys on here that like to lick the industry sack every chance they get.
I agree Ryan showed his ass last year and if I was DC I would also tell him that he is not welcome back. Doesn’t make what Ryan is saying wrong.
There is not healthy motocross racing in the southeast.
Good one, LOL.
Don't have one. I would fall into the category as one who "could" but really shouldn't even consider it. I live well below my means.
I am leaving tomorrow morning for a weekend race with my bike in the back of my truck. Will spend the 2 nights at a friends house about 30 minutes from the track. You make it as expensive as you want it to be.
When your on the track, the toter doesn't matter. I feel much better and have more fun spending $100. a weekend on my recreation verses a $1,000. (for a local race). But that's just me. My decision.
People acting like you need to spend a fortune to race is just not reality. You don't HAVE to. Nothing has changed, you can still show up with a bike on bumper carriers attached your your Ford Escape. Nothing wrong with that. No rules against it.
Like - who is the bad guy here? What needs to change? How are toter homes killing the sport? I just don't get it? Are insecure people just complaining here? I really don't think there is anything to this more than a few oddballs' on a small forum complaining.
There it is, either agree with Ryno that "there is one promoter out there raping everyone" or you are licking the industry's sack.
Legit question here: could you make it to the ranch and pit out of a tent with the bike in the back of a truck? I thought I read somewhere MXS charged you camping fees even if you didn't stay at the ranch and stayed offsite.
Vital member WestoftheElwha took his son to LL and tent-camped with this setup:
They just write it off Johnny!
What about the fees? Are you charged regardless if you stay onsite or not?
Pit Row
Yes, it cost money to go the biggest amature national in the world.
This topic was evolving into a "moto is getting too expense" in general thread.
But still, these people are paying a SMALL fraction of what many most are at the ranch. And it is each one of their decisions.
Ballin' aint cheap.
It is REALITY. Instead of growing the sport, the goal is the capture the most money from the people that can afford it. Conclusion, the feeder or amateur classes are slower than they used to be, now 10% really make an impact instead of 70%, just because the really fast guys could not get there because of money. It was a middle class sport, but now the middle class is struggling. Some rich and passionated dads are still there, but that is not how you create the next james stewart especially in a weaker field. Sorry but Ryno is 100% right.
You pay a facility fee for daily access whether you stay onsite or offsite. There is no separate fee to camp if you stay onsite.
Um, it might be more appropriate for you two to discuss this via DM.
Jus' sayin'... 😄
Normally the talk is about how many familys that take every dime and go to lorettas in hope of getting a ride that can pay them back in the future, how much they spend on putting the kids on facilitys in hope of making it.
Pastrana talked about how they loaned money from the uncles etc, but now all of a sudden it’s all fine?.
Here in Sweden the sport is dying at a fast rate due to the costs. Some the largest amateur races closes down one after one due to low attendence.
One local race that had around 250 starting riders in the early 2000’s are now down to 90 riders and there are four more classes available now than what it was back then.
I don’t know how it is in the rest of europe tough.
3500 is buying you a 2001 KX250 and your 15 year old F150 isn't paid off nowadays.
Here's my take on the cost of racing...
Unfortunately it seems that what happens at Loretta's or on the "Road to Loretta's" has a way of filtering down to local racing. What used to be a RACE DAY is now a RACE WEEKEND. All of the fees and additional stuff that used to be free (dry camping, practice day admission for a rider, pit bikes, facility memberships) is now a separate line item. I'm not trying to pick on Three Palms...this is happening all over. Here's a great example...
Oh, one more thing in reference to inflation. It's true that most bikes are comparable in price to 20 or 30 years ago when you factor in inflation.
That would be great if wages had kept up with inflation...but they haven't. That's why the middle class is shrinking and continues to shrink. As the middle class declines sports like ours are hardest hit...because ACTUAL disposable income becomes less and less.
Rodney Carrier, the guy who rides the Maico, said that his cost for the week was $1100. That's what he paid MXSports for entry fees for two classes and the facility fees necessary to pit and dry camp. Does not include travel expenses or any other expenses for the week.
I think you are simplifying why the middle class is shrinking. There are many factors, not just inflation.
Absolutely simplified it. This is Vital, not an economics class.😂
The most pertinent point I was trying to make was that as the middle class shrinks so does the available pool of money and participants for grass roots motorsports.
