I pay sales tax.
I pay for electricity.
I drive in traffic all the time. Would you prefer buses and trains? Mass transit system?
"Hundreds of billions on train to nowhere"? We've spent 11 billion on 120 miles of construction. In my eyes, you are either joking or spouting right wing talking points which are lies.
I register 5 vehicles each year.
I'm not going into specifics, but our public school system, regional center, and the state provide a lot of services for our family.
Yes, the state does a lot for my family.
ok.
Teamgreen posted after I left for the weekend. I just responded to him
Projected cost of $106.2 billion for 776 miles of high speed rail. Just under $137 million per mile.
I believe the $11 billion spent on 120 miles of construction is a "so far" total and that 120 miles is not completed yet.
The 40 billion dollar bullit train started in 2009, scheduled to be completed by 2020.
770 miles mostly through the flat San Joaquin Valley with 21st century equipment and technology. 15 years later about 18 billion spent and not enough funds to even complete Bakersfield to Merced. Estimated 100 billion more to complete and estimated completion dates of 2040 ? 2050? At this rate with compounding inflation and wildly inaccurate budgets I would expect we'll North of 200 billion. That's 30 to 40 years. California is broke this is never going to happen.
150 years ago the Transcontinental railroad was built in 6 years almost entirely by hand in the middle of a civil war.
2,000 miles over numerous rivers, over the Sierra Nevada Mountains, tunnels through solid granite.
This so called project I think really represents the incompetence and corruption that the State Govt has become over the last 30 or so years.
I've lived here for 55 of my 62 years. Ca has a long history of successful projects. And a state that had a great private business environment.
I don't have an exact date but the early to mid 90s things were clearly changing and that seems to coincide right along with Democrat controls of the legislature and control of pretty much every govt agency.

Only $11B…really?
LA Times…in March reported a bit more than that…also…it “might be ready” by 2030…2035…
The headline…“Despite some progress, state’s high-speed rail is $100 billion short and many years from reality”
https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2024-03-21/high-speed-rail
To my point: this state takes more money than can be explained and spends it on some seriously insane shit…and then there’s Gavin’s push for Reparations…etc.
"Reparations" Boy if that shit isn't designed to divide us I don't know what is.
So you're too broke to own property and you take all the Government hand outs you can get. Got it.
That would make sense why you love California.
^^^
Nailed it.
Everyone pays a property tax, either directly via ownership or indirectly via rents. There may be examples of residential properties exempt from taxes (or maybe zoned agricultural), but for the vast majority, the taxes being levied are paid.
A state that never had slaves, paid by people who never owned slaves.
To people who never were slaves.
It's the American way. We're still giving a bunch of privileges and rights to Native Americans for a war they lost that nobody who is alive today even fought in.
Show me another example of the losers of a war getting more rights than the winners....I'll wait.
...well it hasn't been spent yet.... you've got me there, at least by their reporting.
I'm not getting into reparations. I don't know if that will ever happen.
Our insane shit usually starts spreading across the country, watch out!
There’s already plenty of legal challenges to the states mis-reporting of these expenditures. So, there’s always that…which is just sad and furthers the point of how this issue is exemplary of how crazy government spending is…here…in my home state.
Btw, my point about taxes and other fees paid…by you or me…was simply to indicate all the ridiculous and accumulative taxes and fees we pay the state…
And how they spend it on the stupidest shit.
Contrary to how the point has played out in the thread, there’s no “F U” implied there-in. Just making the point…taxes upon taxes upon taxes…upon fees.
Next up: how much debt does our glorious leader have us in…and just a few years after telling us we had pllllenty of money…?
I respond normally to you because you don't resort to name calling or ghosting me when I ask for evidence.
That's very kind of you; but, let's be honest...
I am just another angry old boomer yellin' at the kids to "Get off my lawn!"
I'm 36 and trying to buy a house... I'll be there someday
Pit Row
That someday will probably be farther away if the folks in your state keep voting the same way.
Unless you think more taxes, more regulation and higher cost of living are gonna help you buy a house.
Or maybe you're hoping they'll just go full socialist and take a house from someone wealthy and give it to you?
Every time he votes D around here, it means he'll need to save more and make more to qualify.
In my short time out here, I've noticed that most don't realize the futility in their actions. Blackrock doesn't contribute to the Trump campaign....
I wish you nothing but success.
