Or do arenacross not count on this "poll"?
There's an obvious east side bias to this conversation....

Yes there is! Kress couldn't carry Gavin's helmet. I don't know what results you are looking at but Gavin has been running up front at National events, as has Devin Reed.
Jeremy wasn't there cause he is in Houston. He earned a ride on The Factory Honda of Houston Amatuer team. He is signed to do Amatuer stuff only. He had better results then Gavin at the Mini O's if I remember right till he hurt his wrist and just had surgery on it. Every Pro Am race went to this year also he was always top 5. He went to Millville Pro National and got 27th in the Lites class. So thats what I know. Also neither of them have had any results that Devin has had. Devin is the Man so far at the Amatuer Nationals and Mini O's. Also Jeremy likes Outdoor stuff way more then AX and tight stuff.

MX Dad #27,,, you may want to take a few notes from the above comments.. My intention is not to be mean, but just make sure you know how deep the pool is before you jump in. Calling out any rider,,, is not the right thing to do,, and I would amagine you know that..

You know I have nothing against Gavin one bit. Last Summer Jeremy was riding alot of the OUTDOOR NATIONALS.... Miss alot of them by one or two and made Millville and got a 27th. If ya wanna get technical where was Gavin at? He wasn't at any of those Outdaoor Nationals. Also you said I was being biased about the East side of Iowa, thats the pot calling the Kettle black really.Breck has even said on another Board and on Racer X that Gavin shouldn't be on there yet and if there gonna put him on it, then Devin Reed and Jeremy also should be on there.

Hey Todd, I enjoyed racing with you and hope all is well with your dad also. It sounds like you have a good time harrassing my baby brother. If DC is out there I was really sorry to hear about the loss of your father. He was a great man and did a lot for MX thru the years. Bob (85s) and I (65s) raced in High Point way back in the mid-70s at the mini national there. Hope all is well with Tim also. Someone mentioned Willie VanZee being fast at Wilcox at night, I can tell you he was good but the man at Wilcox was Daredevil Dan Newall. He was scary fast at Wilcox and a great rider at all the tracks. I always dredded racing him at Wilcox because we had some knock down drag out duels there! Also, Dan could get to a national and back cheaper than anybody and that's no JOKE!!!!

Just good old bench racing...

I have a feeling we'll see Gavin at the outdoor nationals soon enough.

Personally I don't think any of them belong on the list yet...to me you must do something in the pro ranks to be considered one of the best. There's been days that anyone can beat anyone at a local track....way too many variables.

But that's just my opinion...

I somewhat agree with what you are saying about being in the pros to make it on the list,,but there could be a state or two that has never had a rider make the pros,, I dought it, but very possible.. Also, the point of the Fox Fifty is, the fastest riders from each state, so all they do is put all ( forgot some) the fast riders on a list, and its OUR job to pick the fastest (top 5).. Technically, they could put anyone who has ever raced on the list, whats counts is the top 5..

1st off Todd - congrats on making the list...that's pretty cool.
Another stat about the list - 5 of them rode/ride for Storm Lake Honda at one point in their careers...pretty cool I think

As DC and a few others have noted in this thread, some were left out and the same can be said for some that are on it maybe shouldn't be. But that's what bench racing is all about. Personally just reading through this list takes me back down a LONG memory lane. It's always fun to talk about who's the next "guy"

With that being said, I feel that maybe Gavin shouldn't have made the list YET - his time will come though!! As the list stated - top A class rider. He is still an "up and comer" In regards to "where was Gavin" different riders take different routes to "making it" and the route that Kress took wasn't the best one for Faith and vise verse. I mean if we are going to get technical Jeremy isn't an Iowa resident anymore is he? haha It doesn't really matter who made the list and who didn't really - as Hawkeye (bennet?) pointed out the final 5 is what really counts. All I can say is - if there is a race this summer where Devin, Jeremy and Gavin are all at....I'm there!!!!
5/3/2010 12:07pm Edited Date/Time 4/17/2016 10:35pm
Does Jeremy Kress have a brother? I think I remember getting waxed by him or his brother at 50s, but not sure... it was a long time ago.

I think it's awesome that there is an argument to have about who is the next fast guy coming out of the state. With Devin, Gavin, and Jeremy all coming up; the future looks bright to have another guy to cheer on at the nationals and SX races.

X10 on Chet, I always idolized him while I was a little kid on 60s.

I also think Bachman should've been on the list. I remember the days of watching him, swap and Stephenson banging bars. Pretty cool for sure.

And finally, as a kid, there was nothing cooler than the Jamie Bennet and Chad Pederson battles at Hawkeye Downs... it was cooler than supercross to me.

EDIT::::

Just watched the video of Kress. If he's as fast as I've heard, I can't imagine how fast he could go with some decent suspension. I'm not a techie by any means, but the stuff in that video looked horrid. Give the kid a good set of suspenders already!

Its been awhile Jesse but ya I used to come up there for sure. I think the last time I was up there was around 94 for an Area Qualifier when I was riding B. Always raced against Karter Busse if I remember right and then I have rode A since 95. I raced alot of Nuclear Series races back when the Nuclear Series was the place to be to race against the best in the Midwest you know. Did that from when I was on 80's in 92 till roughly 98 and then off and on till about 2002 and then I used to frequently hit the Vet Nationals. I also used to hit up Gerhards races at the Mendota once and awhile and used to hit up Coal Valley alot. That is where I used to race against quite a few guys from Wisconsin. But ya I do remember you Jesse. I didn't talk much back then I was actually a really shy kid that only wanted to race my scooter.
Sorry to hear about Dave......He was so quiet ....You never would have guessd .....Scott E...What about me on the list...There was one night at wilcox in "79" where I beat Johnny Spaw,,,,Jimmy White,,,,David Ostrem,,,& I lead Scott Hall up untill 3 laps from the finish,,,, It wasen't my fault those guy's were stuck in the fence & David was drinking my beer in the pits...

Dear DC

Based on guilt I need to come clean on one item. I pointed out the oversight of not mentioning Bob Halstead...but I neglected to mention that I am his current sponsor. Bob was as fast as anyone on the list. He had the style of Marty Tripes (and the current profile +/- a couple of pounds). In addition, I also sponsored the late Dave Ostrem. Dave raced with Mr. Slife and will be missed by his friends. I paid for a memorial that was dedicated at last weeks New Hartford race. Dave married his long time companion Justin in December and he survives. The Hunt brothers also raced with the Halstead brothers. Dana Hunt has been acknowledged for his community efforts in promoting the "stay within the family" philosophy.

I was racing the open class back in the early 80's when Chad Pederson was riding a mini-bike. Now that makes me feel old. My Pa use to race against his dad in the senior class back then. Good memories. My Dad and I ran the Husqvarna/Maico shop in Burlington, Iowa for 17yrs.

Yep, that's us. We use to race Tipton everytime the gate was open. Did most of our racing "down south". St. Louis, Missouri, etc. Anybody remember the name of the really big dude on the Maico that use to do a lot of winning around the Quad-City area? Seems I remember him winning once at Coal Valley without a seat one time.

Yes Jeremy has an older brother Austin Checkers. Austin just lost all interest in riding. Also Jeremy wtill has his Iowa residency or claim just like Brayton did. Jeremy is back right now and should be able to start riding in about 2 weeks. He had surgery on his wrist. He had along time nagging injury that I guess just kept getting worse and worse. To where it hurt when he rode. He is gonna be back here for the Loretta Qualifiers and have all of his family and friends surrounding him. He said down in Texas he loved it, but he didn't have no family or really close friends and he kinda got a lil home sick I would say. Just from the way he was describing it. So hopefully he will be back soon and faster then ever. Klein8 is this Jack or Scooter???????

ahhh yes, I remember Austin waxing me every weekend on his extremely tricked out PW50. My stocker and lack of skills were definitely not keeping up. Can't say it means much, as Breck used to wax Teddy and I both every Adel race on his Italajet too. Ahh the memories of Breck's 50 losing its chain and Teddy's MR 50 with a smoking clutch against my lil PW. Heck yea, the days before mini dads lost their minds.

Judging from the results it looks like Jeremy gives you and Kurt quite the handful on Saturday nights under the lights. I wish him the best.

Tomorrow is results day on this right?

Pete,
They are doing good. Ya, you started on that bad habit.. I used to sell used cigarettes in downtown Hudson when I was 5, so I could play Stargate, hahaha.. Are you planning on coming to Millville this year and see Stewart lay the wood down ??

It's funny how you remember certain guys in your era of racing that were really fast. Here are a few that come to mind from my era. 88' to 99'.
Steve Downey
Dave Brommel
Mark Bolten
Tracey Bachman
Robbie Palmer
They all raced a few Nationals.

Jeremy Hauls ass on a 450 and straight up beats my ass in the ground alot on that. I went back to a smoker so I can ride in multiple classes and its cheaper. In the 250 class I can hold my own quite well and still win quite a bit. Not to bad for being a 32 year old guy I guess. LOL Its all about having fun and getting back on a 2 stroke has brought back the fun for me. Went riding at Walnut yesterday and Ryan Poulters is back on a KTM 250 2 stroke. Dude was straight up hauling the mail. Bar draggin and making Bubba's Scrubs look like a minor whip.
