The law at the link below was just signed by the governor.

They gonna have a state trooper checking IDs in staging at the MX track?

You'd think the companies that rely on us to buy their parts to stay in business would be all over this shit, but they aren't.

If we don't have anywhere to ride, we don't have any reasons to buy your doo-dads.

They have something like this in oregon few years back. Where you must take some orv user test online to get a license to ride legally at orv parks. I hear it's pretty easy.

The stuff about open liquid containers and such. Sounds like you can blame the sxs n 4x4 maybe quad crowd for the additional heat.

Helps if you actually read the bill guys. To me it reads that they will have an education course for minors to get a ‘license’ to operate ohv’s. I had to have a similar license to ride off private property growing up in the 90’s.

Other side of the coin:  https://www.autoblog.com/2023/09/05/can-am-maverick-r-review/

MFGs are building  stuff that was only available to pro-level shops 5 years ago. Now any yahoo can go buy one and splatter themselves all over the desert/woods/dunes. It's really fun to drive one after a 12 of Coors Light too!

Most of the OHV places near me are unsafe to use on 2 wheels unless you (quickly) get into single track and away from anything wide.

You can't fix stupid, so they will legislate it. Welcome to the new world.

Blame the SxS people for this

"State Sen. Sine Kerr said she introduced the bill after a friend in the Sedona area informed her about how OHV usage was disrupting and destructing the terrain."

Right there... this isn't about safety...

Again you have to read the bill. It covered a number of different things. The safety portion was only part of it.

I hope that's the case but in reading it several times they don't seem to me that they're tied together.  At no point in the bill does it mention that successful completion of the course awards any kind of license.  Again, I hope I'm wrong, but it appears that they are talking about a normal drivers license.

It says citations can be issued to minors 12 to 15 or their guardians but not both. If they have a violation! Sounds like under 12 no go but 12 to 15 with completion of the course. Like how the bill was drafted because of one friend of a politician complaining in Sedona and it gets signed into law 🤷‍♂️

Yea I remember back in 1994 I had to take a jet ski class to drive our seado’s at lake Powell. I was 10, the class was literally just a vhs tape.

She's right. Many Sxs users have no trail etiquette at all - they go where they want and run over whatever is in the way. Everything turns into a blown out whoop fest and single track ceases to exist. I'm sure it's way worse in the desert than here on the coast range. Hard to bomb thru dense woods on one of these things. We've all read the horror stories here about ignoring signage, one-way wrong-way morons, and on and on. This type of legislation was just a matter of time.

We don't ride Brown's Camp or the Oregon dunes specifically due to safety but that's just one component of this whole mess.

I don't disagree the Sxs are running crazy! But they shouldn't lump in motorcycles! Back to the AMA just taking your money and all they care about is loud pipes on Harley!

This is just a bill to then draft laws around it. But the way it’s worded indicates there will be ways for minors to obtain a license.

I see it here in the CA desert. UTV's are ruining everything. Almost all of our single track is shut down in Dove Springs, the other trails are completely whooped out and these guys in the UTV's think it's badass to do donuts right next to others camping spots. It's ridiculous and is ruining the desert experience.

Maybe I understood that line I quoted wrong. To me it came across as not a safety issue, but more like a higher ups friend wasn't happy with the "disruption and destruction" of the land from OHV's using it.

No reason to read something, just complain on the internet about the parts you don't like and blame the aftermarket companies for not fighting it lol.  It's the way things work now, right?

But hey, sit up there on your high horse and shit talk us while ball licking the industry, wouldn't expect anything less from ya.

I don't live in arizona, nor do me or my family own side by sides. However, my dad has a jeep and has had a 93 yj for many years, thats what started our jeeping hobby, About once or more every single trip we take, we are picking up random trash on the trails since we have a tire trash bag(something strapped to the tailgate mounted tire with a trash bag inside). I keep noticing that side by sides have coolers, but I don't see a trash can, most people have their special places in the vehicle to put their trash. I see more toilet paper than anything else. The desert is an awesome place, some people care, some don't.

2 Things:

1. SXS users absolutely do ruin the OHV community and the sooner the fad dies, the better. I loathe the diabetes-ridden, overweight sloths that drive those things on trails.

2. There are only 2 MX tracks in the state of Arizona?!?!?!?!!?!

Yeah man, you're right.  Twin Air should be lobbying Arizona legislature to keep riding areas open.  You clearly have no clue how the world works.

If anyone was doing that, it would be the AMA and they do.  They don't exactly do it well, but have you ever tried to be the minority in something like noise and dirt with neighbors etc?  Good luck.

No high horse here, but I actually understand how this shit works, and you just want to complain about everyone that literally creates the sport you apparently like and/or participate in.  Keep up the badass keyboard warrior plan you have going and enjoy the day.

Problem is that they will pass a law but not enforce it on the jackass UTVers that need to be stopped.  I will have to do a class and take my grandkids thru classes so they can ride there little 50 and 90cc toys.   Simply because we follow the rules and are responsible off roaders.  The UTVers will not change their behavior, taking class or not.  Enforcing the law on UTV that are trashing stuff wherever they go will not be easy and therefore it just won't be done.  The real effect of the bill/law will be punished the responsible off-roaders.  Which sucks.

UTV go karts ruining the sport.  Glad I live in Kansas where we can still ride dirt bikes for 10 years until they ban them here and everywhere else.  Been wanting to go to waynoka all my life but..  scared of little Timmy running me down in dads rzr with him hammered drunk in the passenger seat.

where I live you can register them to drive around town so people buy the off road extreme turbo racing model to drive in the parade and take to the liquor store.

Hold-up, before the blame games gets too far along, let me just remind the Az residents and inform the non-residents that this is going nowhere.  Biden's DOJ just dropped off a report at the Governers office on a three-year investigation of its police force and its handling of suspects constitutional rights.  Grade F.  In turn the Govenor, city mayor, and other elected idiots has dropped the hammer on its police force.  Problem is officers are bailing, and dismal recruitment numbers are remaining constant. There's not many left to enforce the law.  You can barely get them to show up for an actual crime.  Don't see this new OHV law being enforced too aggressively.

The AMA doesn't do fuck all, just shows how clueless you are.  Nice try.

Blue Ribbon Coaltion does actually fight these fights and has very little support from any of the big time businesses in the industry, if you read the list of companies that support them it's mostly local shops.

Fucking AMA....god damn.....and to think you were trying to act like the smart one.  Get a clue.

What do you want the AMA to lobby against in this bill?  All it’s saying is users need to stay on established trails and if you’re a minor you need to take a safety course. I think the AMA would probably support both of these things.
